The L-Block has defeated Kirby and Kratos and now stands to defeat Snake, Link, and Cloud in one swoop. L-Block is unstoppable. I fear for Mario's Galaxy.
How ya doing, buddy? |
Okay, why the fuck is it that for such a major release game Nintendo didn't have stores with copies of this game in boxes in the back room this weekend? For such a huge release it is not acceptable that they give today as the release date but everywhere I call it is being released tomorrow because Nintendo decided it was a good idea to start shipping yesterday. Fuck you West Coast. Fuck you. If Halo 3 can get this shit right I'd certainly expect Super Mario fucking Galaxy to. My free day of Mario goodness is ruined. Thanks a lot, Nintendo. Thanks a lot.

Hate you so much, west coast. So much!
![]() Now I have to wait until 7 PM to rush on over and get mine. Yesterday's free day was completely wasted due to Nintendo ineptitude. ![]() This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Here, fucker.

Who are we supposed to go to if we don't get our commemorative coin? Cuz I totally didn't get one either even though I pre-ordered. And I hope the reason isn't limited stock because the fucking Gamestop employees leeched the ones meant for pre-orders. I know they do pull that shit sometimes.

One more reason to dislike Lukage. :tallymark:

How do you make player one jump when you're player two? =o
FELIPE NO |
Wow, the story book is kind of depressing.
Finished the game last night. It's an interesting ending. I wish the final boss wasn't as easy. I was really hoping for a OH HO YOU THOUGHT I WAS A GONER BUT NOPE HERE COMES THE REAL FINAL BATTLE. I thought I almost got it too as the cut scenes rolled along but nope. I guess I just wished the game was a bit tougher here and there. I'm not a huge fan of the 3 hits health bar because I do tend to make stupid mistakes and coins aren't as readily available as 64 and Sunshine. And really when you've been screwing up due to being upside down you're less likely to risk jumping and squashing an enemy and keep hearing that irritating low health beeping. It's kind of odd how I feel about this game. It's a lot of fun but it doesn't have the same HUGE playground feeling that 64 and Sunshine had. A few stages do but most stages reflect an older Super Mario Bros. feeling of get to the end you probably won't really be coming back here again on your own volition it's been a great ride, fella. I love Luigi. He has way more personality than Mario because of his personal demons. They really worked him well into the game and I'm sure it's going to be fun playing as him. Everyone should definitely get this game. However, I must say that Nintendo better get another Mario platformer game out within this generation. I get a feeling that once I've played the heck out of this game I'll be wanting more. I felt like that after Sunshine. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Well, I'm going to assume it makes these little random comets and basically it's your job to follow them. It will position the comets where you haven't gotten a comet star until there are no more new stars to get. It may be random per say but if you're waiting on a comet to get to a specific stage because you just HAVE to have a complete Kitchen before you move on to the Engine Room then you're just wasting your time.
Additional Spam: Okay whoever came up with the Ghostly Galaxy Purple Coin stage needs to burn in hell. It's those fucking blue pull stars and mines a time limit of one minute. Fucking impossible. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
How odd, I had no issues with the ray racing. I thought I would too but I found it to be quite intuitive. Sling shot I had no real issue with beyond one or two deaths until I decided to play it safe and try more precision. The cannon got me confused the first time because I thought it would be like 64's cannon where it arcs so you can't aim straight. Mario goes flying off to die because I aim above the target and then the whole world laughs at me.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yeah, those purple coin challenges are nuts. That level in particular took me a while but as a result I've damn near mastered long jumping and double jumps using the spin mid-air attack. That's how you get all those coins hovering over nothing. Seriously, the purple coin challenges would have been a lot more tolerable for some of them if they'd just up the time limit or remove it all together.
The other time limit stages I hate are the ones where you have to blow up a shit ton of trash heaps with ba-bombs. They only give you 30 seconds and throwing isn't exactly easy in this game. You have to position them just right or you won't make the time limit. I swear it must have taken me like 30 tries or something. So yeah I got all 120 stars...:
How ya doing, buddy? |
Spoiler:
Saka, it says it took me 15 hours and 57 minutes. However, there were a bunch of times I just left it on pause so it might have included that time which I'm sure added up to hours. I'd say it probably took me 13 hours to beat. Once you get the flow of things you can clear out stars pretty easily. It's just those damn purple coin levels that will trip you up the longest. Especially the ones with time limits. Additional Spam: Spoiler:

Additional Spam: And yeah I hate objection failure deaths. They should seriously just ask you to retry. If you don't actually die then you shouldn't lose any lives ever. Not that you're ever in a life shortage but it's annoying. Yeah, swimming takes a bit to get used to but it's not like it was brilliant in 64 or Sunshine either. I do like the spin swimming. Makes it a lot more tolerable. And actually while I wish there were more coins just because of the 3 health meter I'm really glad there are no 100 coin stars for every stage. I hated them in 64 and I hated them in Sunshine. At least for the 100 purple coins they build a stage around it. I absolutely hate scrounging around for shit for no clear reason. Ever since Donkey Kong 64 I hate collection hunts. Pro tip for trash ba-bomb stage: Hold A to go through dialog faster (In some dialog you can even press A + B to skip it). Also pick up center left ba-bomb, touch the far left ba-bomb to get it started, throw ba-bomb into top left centered between three trash heaps, and grab far left ba-bomb you've started already and throw it to the left overs on left. Repeat process for right trash heaps. Toss the rest in the center. Hope that you were quick enough and the bombs actually get a chance to go off before the timer stops. Additional Spam: Also, I just did the boo pull star race again with Luigi and I beat my old time of 1 minute and 30 seconds which I had no trouble with at all with Mario. My new time is 54 seconds and 23 milliseconds. Found a shortcut this time. That stage isn't hard at all. Oh well, I guess not for everyone. Now if you want a hard pull stage level that really is a race then you're going to LOVE the purple star challenge for Ghostly Galaxy. =) I was speaking idiomatically. |
Dang, Saka. I never thought of that. By the way my advice is for the second ba-bomb trash level. It might have markers too but you'll need at least 5 bombs. The heaps are spread too far apart to not do it the way I have shown you.

I was still pissed off when I beat Dreadnought's Purple Coin stage. Wait is the Dreadnought the one in The Garden or The Fountain? The sidescrolling spaceship level with the thwomp and bazillion cannons from The Garden? If it's that one I lost like 20 lives on it. The game's controls for moving upside down and up a wall fail way too fucking often on that stage for the leap in ridiculous precision it requires. It doesn't help when at the end of the stage all the canons decide to go off and leave you nowhere to run to. One canon almost always tosses you off the stage so I don't even know why they give you that 3 extra health pack mushroom at the beginning.
Luigi's Purple Coin stage was far more forgiving once you knew what to do and where to go. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yeah, I only figured out that you can wait for the platform to respawn on my second to last try. I was like no fucking way I can do that?!
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The Ghostly Purple Coin stage was rather daunting at first b/c I thought all the coins totaled up to 100 but there are more like 150 or 200 coins out there. You just have to be very good at using the blue pull stars. Go around the outside and then work your way in the middle where there are long lines of purple coins. You should be able to make it with five or ten seconds to spare if you do it well enough. Took me a while to get it down. Then after you get 100 the star will appear in the center.
Luigi's Purple Coins uses a similar strategy. Work your way around the stage clockwise using long jumps and double jumps using the spin technique for precision landings. Eventually you'll take out the middle but remember to leave space to get back to the beginning so you can grab the star. Time really isn't an issue once you get rolling. Just be careful. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I wouldn't say it's mediocre. But I did feel at the end of it that I wanted more and that the game severely lacks the playground environments that 64 and Sunshine have. I really do hope they come out with either another Mario platformer or some extraordinarily new and fun platforming IP in the next year or so.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Yes, cosmic Luigi is much tougher than cosmic Mario due to the fact that he likes to long jump, use flips, and take shortcuts. I've had some close races and I actually lost twice. I never was beat by cosmic Mario.
Most amazing jew boots |
I can't see how you can lose to Cosmic Mario. He doesn't take shortcuts and he makes a lot of unnecessary moves that slow him down. You can easily dust him by taking a few shortcuts and long jumps. I might have come close only one time because of a stupid move but that's it. Cosmic Luigi is tough but he usually makes at least one bad decision that could give you a tiny advantage. It's not much though.
