Best Buy wants your money. They'll probably say that the DSlite is a completely different product, Neogin, so good luck with that.

Eh well I didn't say it here but I was one of the firsts over at Planet Gamecube to complain about the GBA cartridge sticking out. I really would like to know what their excuse for that is because that really is inexcusable considering they were able to fit the GBA port into an even smaller frame with the micro. I would have preferred them to make the DSlite thicker if it would have given the machine a full GBA slot because really it does look pathetic as it is right now.
![]() They give you this cover cartridge for when you're not using it which would be nice if it didn't seem like it was covering up some dirty secret. I'm not buying into the whole because it's lighter and made of crunchy plastic deal that Crash is spouting though. I'll agree it doesn't look as rough and tough as the original DS but when was the last time Nintendo made a shoddy system that didn't hold up to a little abuse? Uh that's right never (at least from my experience). Also take a look at this: ![]() The stylus looks like it conforms to the surface of the DSlite pretty well so I wouldn't worry too much about it slipping out. Seriously, are you guys irresponsible with your systems or something? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Here's some comparison shots of the systems in action.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yeah I'm liking the DSlite's screen a lot right about now. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Merv, it's fine if you don't like it. I don't like certain parts of DSlite myself but there's no need for ripping on people that might want to buy it. So it's a slightly improved DS that is smaller, lighter, and has better screens. Is it worth the predicted $150. Maybe, maybe not, but like it or hate it Nintendo is going to sell it and people will buy it. Really, what is so horrible about that? It's what they've done for years with their handhelds and for some reason you’re oh so bothered by it now? Get a grip, dude, and just go and play your DS as usual if you're so adamant about the DSlite being a waste of your time.

I'm not sure, Tails, but that might have been a joke. Hurr hurr.
Btw, what has Akai done? FELIPE NO |
Um where? I must have missed it.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
No, Tails, I require clarification. I'm reading it but not seeing it. Also, I believe this thread was started by Elixir.

Is it so bad to own both guys? Not everyone has a DS so having an extra on hand would be excellent for multiplayer.
Oh and I guess this is good enough reason as any as to why the GBA cartridge sticks out: ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach. |
lol it's called pile stuff on top of DSlite and pretend you have x-ray vision. Silly Qwarky. =P

Stafi is something I've been meaning to look into for a while now. If someone had the roms I'd play it even if it's in Japanese. The game just screams to me, a Kirby fan, that it should be played. If I liked it enough I'd import the 4th game for DS.
I don't know who told you Jump! Superstars used the Nintendo Wifi Connection but they're wrong. Only regular wifi between DS in the same room for that game. You must be thinking of Bleach DS which is the only fighting game for DS in Japan that I can think of that takes advantage of the NWC. And basically just like normal NWC you just have to be able to connect your DS to the Internet via wireless router or USB dongle to play it. There of course might be some lag since you're connecting to Japanese servers but then again there might not. The idea of NWC is that it's worldwide. I don't know if they have it all set up in one place or not over at Gamespy. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Awesome. I'll have to go find it when I'm not feeling lazy then. =)
Jump! Superstars has plenty of multiplayer but you have to realize that it was made before DS games began implementing the Nintendo Wifi Connection. If you liked playing the 1 player mode of Super Smash Bros Melee you'll probably still like Jump! Superstars. I don't know if the game allows for download play but that might help you out if you ever have a friend with a DS who is interested if it does. I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm pretty damn confident that Children of Mana will get translated and brought over to at least the US. If it doesn't make Austrailia you'll at least still be able to import it in a language you understand. I'd say wait.
Meanwhile Jump! Superstars is almost guaranteed unless the US suddenly gets overwhelmed with new anime from that game to never make it over here. Nintendo for some reason or another never bothered bringing Stafi over here despite the huge success of Kirby. I doubt they'll bother bringing over Stafi and they wouldn't be cool enough to do a compilation of the first 3 GBA games to make up for not supporting it in the past. I think a Stafi compilation and Mother compilation would definitely liven' up the dull GBA lineup we have over here at the moment. They better fucking bring Mother 3 over here or they are going to get their ears chewed off. So yeah if you liked the other Stafi games you might as well import the fourth one because that's going to be the only way you'll be able to play it. Yeah, I hate when that happens too. Very excellent post, Berto2K. I enjoyed those immensely. It would be nice if we got more video reviews of that nature.

Jazz, Nintendo has announced the official price. $129.99 just like the DS. I imagine they intend to just do away wiith the DS and let the DS lite take over. I remember reading something about Reggie saying that was their plan.
I hope they get the black version out here asap. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Personally, I'd rather wait and get both Black and White officially released in the US. I don't enjoy importing systems because they don't count when you register them online. I was very annoyed when I tried doing that with my Japanese GBA SP.

Just got home after showing my new DSlite off at my friend's house. Got the last one at the mall, no dead pixels or anything. This thing is gorgeous. The only problem I see with it is that it's so nice looking and light that I feel that I'm going to break it. I suppose that feeling will wear off in a few days, but man it's great looking.
Lol the guy at EB wanted me to sell my old DS. "lol no thanks" "but dude you'll save 70 dollars!" "Um I need my old DS to transfer wifi settings and it'll be good for multiplayer. I'm already set for inevitable DS Wii connectivity rapefest." "TRADE IN STUFF. OMG. I NEED YOUR STUFF FOR TRADING IN. RIGHT NOW." "lol k tell you what. I'm also gonna buy that DDR Mario Mix and extra pad and you can shove it." "loool okay. 200 bucks please. Warranty for dance pads?" "Fine." "215 bucks." "k here money byez" "TRADE IN STUFF ADOFIJCVJASDHRAKLJLLLLLL!!!11!!1" *runs* There's nowhere I can't reach. |
That's sucks. Mine connected just fine. I was able to transfer my old Mario Kart DS WFC stuff over too. Went without a hitch.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
If you have a dead pixel then just have the machine replaced. Not a big deal. Nintendo has excellent customer service and consistantly makes sturdy products.
If you haven't purchased the DS yet than you can already look forward to an incredible amount of AAA titles available for the system already once you purchase the system. As it is there are too many good games out. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Yeah, I asked the 3 EB/Gamestops around if they had any issues with customers with dead pixels and they said no. It's possible they could have lied but I told them I was going to buy a DSlite no matter what and that I was just curious. But yeah I was very lucky to get the last one in my area.

How ya doing, buddy? |

If Nintendo would fix those issues you've pointed out, I'd happily buy that version of the DSlite again. It'd be worth it. My big beef is the dpad being stiff for diagonals and the sound not being as loud as the original DS. I believe that later versions of the original DS have weaker speakers than the original launch DS system. My friends model he got a year after launch is noticeably lower in volume compared to my DS I got at launch.
