Nintendo created and owns the Donkey Kong franchise. They can do whatever they want with it, Rare or no Rare.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
The Opera browser isn't out anywhere yet. Apparantly it'll be out sometime this December.

It's not in Sonic. That was an addition to Sonic 2. =)
Double Post: looooooool respond to a thread that I had in a tab an hour later and look how many have beat me to the punch. ='D FELIPE NO |
Yeah Infernal, it's jittery on the main interface for everyone. Really started pissing off my friend because he's a freak like that. Nintendo will hopefully get a firmware update out there to patch that up because it is pretty annoying.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I don't even know if the usb to ethernet adapter is even out yet. Probably should check their website.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yeah, I despise those gold contacts too. What's even worse is some of the really shitty quality ones will explode from body heat. No joke. I had some for my GBA and they burned a hole in my pants.

Um totally wrong thread for this, shorty. I'll answer your question though.
The only advantage I see for getting a $400 Japanese Wii is the virtual console. Japan is getting tons of Virtual Console games that we are probably not ever going to see (Fire Emblem yada yada) and they are getting their games before anyone else. They had The Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past at launch. AT LAUNCH. We still don't have it. Basically Virtual Console support in the US is kind of pathetic right now. That could change in the future but for immediate benefits a Japanese Wii can only connect to a Japanese server and get Japanese Virtual Console games. The US Wii can only connect to a US server and get US Virtual Console games. Regioning sucks but as a result that's one advantage to owning a Japanese Wii. Since you understand Japanese that secures that advantage. However in regards to your boyfriend if there are any text heavy/text dependent games you're going to have to translate for him where necessary for him to enjoy those games. Otherwise it'll be scattered gameplay with an overdose of moonspeak for him. The actual Wii games on the other hand are a mixed bag. A lot of them are very visual even in instructions that he could easily follow along, play, and have fun. Games like Wario Ware Smooth Moves, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, Wii Sports, Wii Play, and just about any mini-game oriented game will be completely fine in Japanese. It's games that have a lot of story and/or dialog that will decrease in enjoyment. Sure, you can easily play Twilight Princess without understanding the text but you'll miss some of the story, any hints, and quite possibly get lost without being given direction through dialog. There is a lot of cinematography that'll cue you where you need to go but for times where that just isn't enough to tell you what to do it could be frustrating. That said, I see a few scenarios of how you might play the Wii with your boyfriend. You and your boyfriend are playing together. For that to happen it's most likely a multiplayer game and all games for Wii that are multiplayer don't have much of a focus or heavy dependency on text. You'll be hunky dory there. However if either of you are playing a single player game that requires the understanding of the Japanese language to easily progress or enjoy the game to the fullest like Twilight Princess than you will need to translate on the fly for him. That's a definite if he's playing the game but if he just wants to watch you play then that's a maybe. You'll have to translate if he asks you what's going on or if a character said something important. It's a matter if he's even interested. The one thing you need to keep in mind with this purchase is that you will not be able to get US Virtual Console games nor will you be able to play US Wii games until a Freeloader solution comes out which probably won't be for quite some time. It wouldn't be a terrible thing to have a second Wii if your boyfriend really wants to play Wii games in English. However, that's up to you all to figure out gaged on what kind of games he ends up playing more. If it's just multiplayer then probably not but if he starts playing big epic games like Zelda all the time then he'll want to understand what the hell is going on and that's where you come in to translate Japanese for him or a purchase of a US Wii and a whole bunch of translation teams do your job. Keep that in mind. I'll now move your post, Tritoch's post, and my post from "I'm postin' on mah Wii! =D" to the Official Nintendo Wii thread. After that I'll PM you about this move. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Well good luck to ya, but you'll have to hold out on connecting to a US server with a Japanese console. That won't come until someone figures out how to mod the hell out of the machine or with some kind of caharazaaay Freeloader device that figures out how to override the system region code and choose which server to connect to for Virtual Console games. Right now you're stuck with the options I've shown you.
I'd say with your situation that a Japanese Wii is the better decision. If you have any other issues or questions feel free to come back here and ask. Enjoy your Wii when it arrives. =) I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
http://www.wiinja.com doesn't seem to load. I'm guessing this is a mod chip.
I can't help but think it's fake with a second Wii actually loading the games from below away from view. All it takes is some good timing. I'll need more proof than a shoddy youtube video. If they've cracked it already then bravo but I want proof. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Did you click on the link, Lukage? The console is IN the PC. Kind of neat, but pointless to me.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
immp, pink I'm pretty sure will not happen. Not here at least. These are consoles we're talking about. Spraypaint a white one pink if you're desperate.
Josh, I'm guessing that in half a year a black model will be out. Probably around summer if sales slow down which they don't seem to be doing right now. They have enough trouble keeping a steady supply of white consoles on shelves. Also, buy rechargeable batteries. It's an extremely easy and affordable solution. I actually prefer it to having to have some stand to stick the controller into or some cord. A few things less that I have to worry about. Plus it's much easier to stick in new already charged batteries than have to wait a couple hours for a controller to charge up. Maybe someone with a 360 or PS3 can tell you their experiences with their wireless controllers. I dunno, maybe it is better. Maybe it is an inconvenience. All I know is that I haven't had a great time recharging certain appliances such as mice via cradles and their various ilk. Oh, and a price drop isn't happening anytime soon. Maybe in two years. Maybe, and seriously you'd be pushing it, but at next holiday season. The Wii is just selling too well to get a price drop. The only reason they'd drop it would be to strategically sell a lot of software with them like they did when they killer app'd us with Nintendogs for the DS and likewise with Mario Kart DS. It's really a different way of marketing when it comes to handhelds though. I wouldn't wait around if there are a couple of games you want to play. I definitely wouldn't wait around after this holiday season when we're bound to get a bunch of the huge titles. How ya doing, buddy? |
What's with the Playstation crap all over it, and by all over it I mean in two places - but really, what's up with that?
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Not as bad as the cube's but there is one. Super Paper Mario will be welcomed.

I don't think that GameSpy rep answered every question and ultimately it's Nintendo who does what they want with their services. The big thing that points Wii games towards and away from having individual Friend Codes is Pokemon Battle Revolution. PBR uses Friends Codes because it primarily uses the DS and it's DS Pokemon games as data. The DS games are what causes the Friend Codes in this case.
So perhaps you only need the System Code for games that don't use DS game link up to the Wii. That would be most of them. I see no reason for Nintendo to use their nice interface and create a Friends Channel where you can add, edit, and manage your friends. There should be an easy way to pull up a player list in every online game you play, Press B on their name and get a drop down option that asks if you want to add them to your Friends Channel. After doing a confirmation with them they will then be added. Nintendo makes you read EULAs to protect them and you from crazy people online and what not anyway so you should have to jump through a thousand fucking hoops to have a good online interface. Nintendo needs to get with the program. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Posting this from my new Wii browser. In options you can make it wider. It's perfect. They fixed most of the problems. All they need now is to support bluetooth keyboards.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
They need to work on how it handles cache. Like there shouldn't be any because basically a couple flash files in and the memory gets full. That or they need to offer an external harddrive to handle memory issues.
They also need to put the latest version of flash in it because it doesn't display some text. Here's a good example of one where it doesn't do that: http://www.acerbandit.net/flash/ahtm6.swf Now, if someone could do a test for me please. Try loading the following flash using the Wii browser and run it. http://www.acerbandit.net/flash/stfu-slim.swf I get as far as the kid spray painting the wall and the cop shadow behind him and then it runs out of memory. That's without loading any other flash videos as well. Tell me how far you get or rather if you further. If they'd just fix the memory issues this would make the Wii browser perfect. Additional Spam: I've been doing some testing. It seems that flv's which youtube, google video, and most streaming flash video uses doesn't use a lot of memory. It must be some sort of small cache stream. Anyhow I used AMV Hell 3 which is almost an hour as a test on youtube and I can only get about 30 minutes in. This is sort of why I like google video because you can jump anywhere in the video instead of having to wait for the entire video to load. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3aTgINExt2w If you could. Tell me how much of it you were able to watch before it crapped out on you. I have a theory that after a certain time the Wii thinks it's not being used and goes into sleep mode where it loses connection. I might be wrong though. How ya doing, buddy? |
Oh god. Mario has gears on his wrists? I have to get this game now. It has gears in it.

Go to the nintendowificonnection website and check your router's compatibility. You may need to update your router's firmware. I had to.

Oh yeah! I forgot about that. That was one of the other things they told you to do.

Anyone who just watched the E3 Nintendo Conference know full well that there will be a thread for that and a new Official Wii thread soon enough. For now this one is closed. I will update with links to the new threads asap.
Additional Spam: Please visit the E3 Nintendo Conference thread to discuss some awesome things. Official Wii thread v2 will be coming in the future. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Version 2 might be made by you! =O
