Yeah, um don't sell the bicycle shop there, Wilbur. The Wii is not going to have every SNES game. I'd never sell it. The cube on the other hand isn't a bad idea to get some money for since the Wii will play all cube games. Although I'm not sure if it will be able to play import games via free loader or not yet so if you have any import games you might want to hold out and make sure the Wii can still play them via free loader. The only cube games that won't work are portions of those who have online and LAN gameplay. Oh and the GB Player.
But seriously, I don't recommend selling the SNES b/c there are going to be a lot of titles that just can't be put on the Virtual Console plus stubborn companies. Plus the Virtual Console will most likely have region locks. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
1. You need gamecube memory card for gamecube games.
2. No. But it might be possible for the Wii to access those memory cards for game purposes. Perhaps you had a cube rpg that had a sequel on the wii that imported your old character data so you didn't have to start your characters from scratch or lose any items from last time. It might be possible although I doubt it will ever be used. 3. No. Why would you? Internal flash memory and SD cards are a much better alternative. 4. I think you'll be able to put Miis, controller configurations, and very small bits of information on the Wii controllers. Beyond that I'd say game saves and more complex info and multimedia would be only for SD memory cards. There's just not enough memory on the controller. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
That's why you get a SD memory card. Tons more space and pretty damn cheap too. You can get a 2 GB card for 50 bucks. For even smaller cards it's even cheaper. It's a much better solution to gamecube memory cards.

No. You have composite cables. Only the cube had component cables in the past and those were only available online. This time however component cables will be available for the Wii in retail stores. If you have a television that supports component video then be sure to get them.

Miles told me about this but if any of you are here you should defitely tune in to this. Right now gamespot is demoing off the Wii live. It's awesome b/c they're showing themselves play as well as gameplay.

What, to connect SD cards to your computer? Yes. Very yes.

I imagine they'll have a certain amount a month but they'll probably release a new game or two every week.

I'll answer for him by not allowing you to post with a  for a day. Laters!

Haha thanks a bunch, naz! Just ordered mine. Mine should be at my house by the end of the week.
Looks like Nintendo getting hit with hundreds of phonecalls last night about ordering component cables paid off and they decided that since there's such a major interest to put them on their website early instead of having their phonelines spammed. Smart move, Nintendo. Smart move. FELIPE NO |
Probably sometime next year when sales are slower than normal.

I got up at 7 AM to go stand in line and get a Wii. No dice. There was a huge turnout where I'm at. 200 people at Best Buy for 100 Wiis, 50 people at Toys R Us where there were 40, Target had already passed out numbers, and Walmart did a midnight sale even though they aren't a 24 hour Walmart. This is all in the small area of Fair Lakes.
I rushed with my friend over to Woodbridge and got there right when customers were getting their Wiis at Target. Sold out. Went over to Best Buy and it was even worse than the one at Fair Lakes. Went over to Woodbridge Toys R Us and was 48th and 49th in line. They only had 40 Wiis. The fuckers didn't even have a sign out front saying how many they had like Mo0's did in Fair Lakes so we wasted an hour standing there. It was funny b/c when I started asking people if they were getting a Wii or not (because there seemed to be some families and couples and such) when I was counting hands they thought I might have been an employee. Nah, just wanted to help the guys in back with me but it seemed they appreciated knowing what number they were. Those Toys R Us employees at Woodbridge don't know how to handle a line. It was orderly and all but they wasted a lot of people's time by not putting out a sign. I had heard at the Fair Lakes Toys R Us from some guys in line that a manager from the one in Manassas had no customers so I called my dad while standing at the one in Woodbridge and got directions and a phone number to that one. Called around 10 while blasting down Prince William Parkway towards it and they said they were packed and had none left. Fucking rumors. I also heard a rumor that the Best Buy in Woodbridge will be getting more Wiis at 6 PM. That's probably a sack of shit too. I'll be calling around anyway to see when new shipments come in though. Hopefully Mo0 can help me out in that department since it isn't launch anymore. Yeah buddy? =D It sucks because I got back from Anime USA at 3 AM and should have just gone and stood in line and I'd probably would have been fine. Oh well, at least I know that Nintendo is having a fucking excellent launch. Probably the most successful launch ever. We'll have to see the results but I'm pretty sure. So anyway, assessment... Mikey, your best bet is to call around be it Sears, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc. Talk to their videogame department and ask when they'll be getting shipment in and if they have any controllers or games that you want left. Mo0's Toys R Us still has a bunch of Zelda and everything else so I'll be heading on over after lunch. I called my Best Buy and confirmed with the guy working there that they have heard that they should be getting a second shipment of about 50 Wiis later tonight at 6 PM. You should try talking to any around. They might also be getting more. Man, today is the most I've driven in FOREVER.

Anyway, I couldn't stand the thought of not having a Wii this weekend so I went and ebay'd one. 385 bucks. If you'd go look you'd say that's actually a good deal since most of the auctions are going well over 450 bucks. Mostly up to 600 bucks. The person I bought from is in PA and I'm in VA so with 2 day shipping I should get it immediatly. I went to the Microcenter in Fairfax and got a Wii controller and classic controller. They were all out of nunchuks by the time I had gotten there. I'll have to look for one of those in the future. I've been saying for a while that the controllers would be one of the big things there wouldn't be enough of and sure enough I'm right. And of course it's also the nunchuk of all things that is the hardest to get. I also got Excite Truck, Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz, and Trauma Center Second Opinion and 2000 Wii Points. After that I went to Toys R Us like I said I would and got Zelda. While on my why home I called the Best Buy at Woodbridge to see if they would still be getting that shipment at 6 PM and it turns out that was just going to Maryland so I said screw that and called it a night for driving around like a maniac. So all I need is a nunchuk, the Wii, and some component cables and I'll be set. I was speaking idiomatically. |
Just tried it out with Excite Truck with two drives. It can't be read. Looks like Nintendo's doing a good job with propriety again. We'll see how long this lasts.

Well eventually there will be a USB to ethernet adapter but the easist way is to go and buy the wifi usb adapter they use for the DS that allows you to piggyback your computer's connection. You can find it at retailers these days. I'd call first though to see if they have any.
Yeah, my Wii will be arriving by Wednesday hopefully. I made the mistake of only grabbing 1 wii controller though. I should have nabbed 3. I completely forgot that my family is doing Thanksgiving this year. 4 player monkey ball and wii sports would have been a blast. I'll continue to look around though. Maybe there will be another shipment tomorrow or Wednesday. How ya doing, buddy? |
No, Hell. The idea of the USB adapter is so you don't need to use a wireless router. It's for people like you who don't have a wireless router.

It is delicious yarn. =)
I must say that I've been happily playing the hell out of the Wii. I've beaten Zelda and now must go back and do the side quests, played Trauma Center up to a point where it's fucking ridiculously hard but still awesome and in my opinion the 2nd best single player game of launch, and I've been playing a bunch of Wii Sports off and on. I really must say that I'm impressed with this little system. I'm not really bothered with the 512 mb of system memory. I really only see the SD card used as storage for saved games when it starts getting full and for media such as music, pictures, and movies to be accessed by Wii games and channels. I don't plan on transferring any of the virtual console games to my SD card (once I get one) because I've seen a video of how long it takes for it to do a simple game like Donkey Kong for NES and it was like 2 minutes. Maybe the SD card they used sucked ass but that is ridiculous. But yeah Nintendo's code is really efficient so I don't foresee needing an SD card anytime soon. My only gripe with the system is the power button on the controller. They need to do a firmware update with a failsafe option you can enable that asks you when you press that button to either turn off the controller or turn off the system (which will also turn off the controller). I pressed that power button to turn off my controller because I wanted to save battery while I wasn't using it. Yeah, it turned the system off. At least I had saved the game just before doing so but yeah I really think they need to change that. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Jesus Christ, it's not like these games won't run on Austrailian Wiis or are in Japanese. Just put them on the virtual console already.

I see little point in this being a plus unless using the classic controller enables use of the home button to return to the Wii menu which I've heard when playing cube games is impossible. This can't possibly be anything big in hardware differences between the US and EU versions of the console besides NTSC/PAL. This would have to be something that could be added to the US version via a firmware update. That or this could be NOE shouting crap again.
