Video Game Music Quiz

Hi folks,

I was only recently introduced to this awesome quiz about a month ago at another forum, and have been enjoying it ever since. By the time I was able to make it to the top 5, the top list was disabled (damn cheats!)

Anyways, I thought I'd join the only active thread on this quiz I'm aware of.

Definitely need new tracks. I hope DarkWolf gets around finishing those scripts and adds 10 or more tracks soon. Of course, you could always go back and try guessing older ones.

And what's up with #0004? No clue what that is til now, and it's only worth 2 and only 24/67 (35.82%) correct. Someting like that should be worth 4-5 points I think.

I know 276 and 278 for sure. 280 is very familiar, but no title has sprung up yet.

And what the hell is 277 that everybody seems to be getting right? I admit I tend to get stumped easily on recent/more popular stuff.

82? It's a bit related to one of the other tracks on the quiz.

Thanks. I actually figured it out yesterday, judging by all the correct guesses from here, and went through some of the older stuff.*

That only leaves 279 now. Exactly the same scenario with the five previous tracks.



*And I didn't want to input it as my score was looking sexy. =D

Wow. 3 more tracks have been added, and this soon.

Got 282 (<3 this game) & 283 (easy), and I think I should be able to get the 281 with a bit of guesswork.

Though I wouldn't care about competing as much as I'd like to identify as many tracks correctly.

I would hazard a guess that it would be incorrect. There's some distinct differences between the two, mainly the intro and endings.

One new track! A five-pointer and from a truly kickass game.

I got a couple of tracks the other day, through sheer luck, and one of them was worth 9 points. Now I got half of the 9-pointers (45 points!) figured out.

So, how many of those have you all guessed correctly?

And I'm down to 70 tracks. =D

Don't know the last one either. Sounds like some generic shop music or something. I'll have to look a bit into it.

And speaking of #0013, pure unadulterated <3! I even heard a fan piano arrange for it once, which was gorgeous.

Yeah, those two have pretty similar intros. Funny there was something about it on the site, and this post back on page 2. No matter, I think you got the right idea now. Keep at it.

And going through some of the older posts, I doubly "fail at life" for not knowing either #0193 or #0197. The latter sounds pretty awesome though.

Got #0287 from this new batch (hah what an intro!) #0286 is gonna drive me nuts, as I think I've heard it before. I suppose #0288 would be from the recent game he's talking about. And I did get #0285 earlier (my initial guess was off) and it has some connection with another recently added track.

Bumping this to drum up some more interest (come on group Gamingforce, start racking up those points!!!), and to congratulate TheKnightOfNee on his magnificent climb to the #3 spot (and for getting his first 9-pointer).

Haha. It's probably from a really popular game that you've probably played and forgot all about the music? I didn't know it at first, until I went back and listened to the soundtrack.

I'm still pulling my hair over #286. Add to that #86, since I've started the quiz. Now where did I hear that before?! =/

Incidentally, I have 4 tracks left unsolved in each of those 7, 8 & 9-pointers.

What about the least popular tracks you've guessed? I'm like one of three persons to get both #30 & #250 right, which aren't that obscure if you ask me...

Just got the easiest of the bunch for now. The rest sound eerily familiar. I can say for certain I've heard 289 before, but where from is an entirely different matter. More stuff to ponder over. >_<

Also got 290 figured (wow, that was quite easy for 8 points!).

289, 289, 289... the one track I was most familiar, I knew the notes beforehand whilst listening to it, and I'm sill clueless.

Regarding ports and such, it's always a better idea to guess the version the track came from. But in your case, the port I think you've guessed could be alright.

The quiz is back, revamped and with mostly new content. I didn't have time to go through it all, but it looks swell. Have fun!

It's had a complete revamp: instead of getting a full list of every single song, you get one chosen at random and have to either guess on it or skip it in order to get the next one. Honestly, I like the old way a lot better because I'd often come up with what game the track came from after I already moved onto something else. Now in order to go back, you have to clear the list of skipped songs and then keep randomly picking them until you get the right one.

The song database has been reset as well; there were around 10 or so when I just ran through them quickly just now. I'm pretty sure one of them was also in the first version of VGMQ, but the others weren't. Your old VGMQ score is in your profile, though.

Hmm, and I thought there was more before I left this morning.

Yeah, I also liked the old way, but I think DarkWolf went with this randomness in order to deter anybody trying to cheat. Hopefully, there won't be any cheating this time around, or at least it won't be easy, as I think the track order and numbering is different for each & every account.

And cheers, TKON. We should still be able to stay up there somewhere.

Also loving that answer list, and no, it wasn't like this. But at least you get to know if your guess was right/wrong beforehand, which is cool.

And that skip-to-track-thingamajig is sure handy.

This set ain't easy. I managed to guess the same two CHz and TheKnightOfNee probably got, in addition to one from an oldie PC game.

I also have the mp3s for the old quiz, and the answers for the 245 tracks I got from the original 292. We could try to compile a full list as I, too, would like to know the answers for some. But I am not sure whether that would be a good idea, as some of the old material is still in use in the new quiz, and more is likely to be added.

Nice bunch, if a bit on the easy side. 7/8 for me. Didn't know the piano one. I am never good with piano tunes.
