Just marathoned the series on youtube, and I gotta say, so far, just so far, Lee's voice isn't working for me, its not horrible, but it sounds a bit off to me.

And to people who want to know info on the North American Suzumiya DVDs, check it out.

http://www.sos-dan.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1014

Quote:

Disc 1 Special Edition ( $64.98 ) includes:
- DVD 01
- A collector’s edition art box that can hold the entire DVD set + 6 CDs.
- A double-sided pencil board
- A Haruhi cosplay hair ribbon
- An iron-on Haruhiism logo
- A “Hare Hare Yukai” CD

Discs 2 Special Edition ( $59.98 ) includes:
- DVD 02
- A pillow case
- Variant Cover for DVD
- A double-sided pencil board
- Bonus sub-only broadcast order DVD
- “Bouken Desho Desho” Hirano Aya CD
- "Danchou" Armband

Discs 3 Special Edition ( $59.98 ) include:
- DVD 03
- Pillow case
- Pencil board
- Iron-on logos
- Bonus sub-only broadcast order DVDs
- Character Single 01

Discs 4 Special Edition ( $59.98 ) include:
- DVD 04
- Pillow case
- Pencil board
- Iron-on logos
- Bonus sub-only broadcast order DVDs
- Haruhi no Tsumeawase (Insert Song CD)

Quoted from animeOnline.com:
Other details: All DVDs will contain various extras, such as the ASOS Brigade videos and the extended "Hare Hare Yukai" dance video. The songs Haruhi sings in episode 12 will be in the original Japanese. Keep an ear out over the next two to three months for information on the novels and/or manga. There are many other character CDs for Haruhi in Japan, including some for characters who don’t even have proper names (lookin’ at you, “Kyon’s Little Sister”),and these CDs will also be released.

Last but not least: there will be a "Hare Hare Yukai" dance competition at Anime Expo this year, so practice your moves!
Important note on the order of episodes

Fans should know that there are two orders of the episodes, chronological order and the Broadcast order.

The North American collector DVD sets above will have 2 DVDs (cept the first set because those episodes are the same in both orders.) One DVD will be in the CHORONOLOGICAL order and will come with the English Dub.

The second BONUS DVD will have it in the original broadcast order, HOWEVER this DVD will only have Japanese language and subs.

The regular edition of the DVDs, the version without all the goodies, will ONLY be in the CHRONOLOGICAL order, and of course have the English dub.

Meaning if you wanna watch in English but in the original Broadcast Kyon Order, you will need to buy the collector's edition and swap disks around, which will be a pain.

Further info on the regular and collector's edition orders can be found here, in case you are confused and need further visualisation.

http://asosbrigade.com/oplet01/

Amazon is selling the first DVD set at a great price of $45!

http://www.amazon.com/Melancholy-Har.../dp/B000NVT0PM

As for me, I'm getting the Collector's version of all the DVDs, I may be a fresh new fan, but hot damn this series is awesome.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Why? If the fans can pull off that dance from the special ending song video it can actully look pretty cool. It doesn't look easy to me from the video I saw off youtube.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Its not an issue of localisation forcing new fans to watch in the chronological order, its the issue that the Japanese execs wanted all DVDs to remain in chronological order. The localisation people did fans a favor by getting the original broadcast order along with the episode previews as extra features.

They explained it all here: http://asosbrigade.com/oplet01/

So blame it on the Japanese execs who don't understand the brilliance of the broadcast order.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Right, because the premise of the whole show can be summed up in two episodes...

This show is NOT for the impatient who expect to see the whole concept within two episodes. Infact, alot of good anime operate on watching at least several episodes before people can make a good judgement.

This show should be seen as a full package, not just watch the first 2 and go "is this it?"

I was speaking idiomatically.

Uh, Haruhi season 2 was announced for this summer season a long ass time ago, people.

What's the surprise?
There were assumptions, but KyonAni didn't say or announced anything until the recent scans.

07/07/07 will be the official announcement. I hope theres some sort of trailer.

The fact that they showed a "newspaper scan" of that certain event is probably giving us a clue as to which volume is being adapated as the main story arc as well. (Psss, its the "Disappearance" one)

Almost all the novels(Cept the recent vol 9) are translated into English here:

http://www.baka-tsuki.net/project/in...uzumiya_Haruhi

How ya doing, buddy?

The internet will explode with Haruhism in less than an hour...

EDIT:NewType official site HAD a video relating to Haruhi 2, which depicts a scene from Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody. The video was just taken down, and we speculate it will be on the shows official site soon, but so far, the site isn't loading...

The annoucement video can also be found here. Remember this is a scene from Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody shot in LIVE ACTION. If you wanna know whats going on, go read that through the translation link I gave before. If you don't wanna be spoiled, well, just take note that the video lasts for 22 mins like an anime episode. Since the events take place Tanabata festival in Japan, which the date for it is 7/7, it makes sense to make the annoucement on that day. It also hints that they will be adapting "Dissapearance" as the main arc, since Bamboo short story is directly influences events in that book.

Kyoani is thinking outside of the box for this marketting, and I think its admirable.Though there is the fear or alienating people who haven't read the books/translations.

Heres the torrent for the PV:

I'm sure when Clannad finishes airing, we would hear something. KyotoAni is still working on Clannad, and only 2 (or 3) episodes are out so far.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

That image then corrects itself, saying that a new anime is in production. That image is an important part for the Disapperance arc.

Quote:
After hitting the Enter key, you are brought to this page displaying a single JPG picture. The picture says that Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu season 2 has been cancelled but a new Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu anime series has been confirmed. I’m guessing they are planning to change the title of the new series to Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya).
Its probably meant to be tongue in cheek since Season 2 will NOT be called Melancoly, but Disappearance.

Nice that again like 7/7/07, they used an important date in the Haruhi timeline to announce something. This time being December 18th.

Anyone who wants to read English translations of the novels can go here.

Suzumiya Haruhi - Baka-Tsuki

And that comic.... Seems like Yuki is trying to get similar attention from Kyon, or trying to emulate Mikuru's cuteness. But we all know it can't work cause of her neutral expression...

We wont be able to find out when Season 2 starts till Clannad wraps up. (See my sig.)

And we don't even know how many episodes Clannad will take. It seems to be 24, but Clannad is a huge visual novel that I don't think 24 episodes are enough to cover 13 or so character arcs and a long After Story... Right now they are at episode 11 on the fullscreen version and only up to the 2nd major character arc.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Well the Suzumiya series is meant to be a series that has little details thrown in here and there that foreshadow things that will happen or has happened, due to the whole time travel element in it.

While the first novel's events was in the right order in the book, unlike the broadcast order of the first season, the rest of the later novels had short stories that were in different parts of the story's time line, and had clues and foreshadowing hints to various events that happen later, or has already happened. Something seemingly trivial may be important later.

The anime, when it was initially broadcast in Japan, took that idea and decided to screw with people even more by having the short stories made into filler episodes and interrupt the first novel's storyline, in some cases, like the baseball episode, they take place AFTER Melancoly, so the "references to past events" instead become "hints" to what we, the audience, will see at later episodes.

One example from Season 1:

Spoiler:
In the baseball episode, when Haruhi forces Mikuru to dress up as cheerleaders with her, she at some point considered having Mikuru wear a pony tail. She then glances at Kyon, frowns, then drops her hair and abandons that idea. What seems to be a trivial motion is actully referencing to the final episode of Melancoly's broadcast order, where Kyon says to Haruhi that pony tails turn him on, before he kisses her and wakes up.

Since Haruhi is already jealous of Kyon's attentions to Mikuru, no way is she gonna let her wear a ponytail in front of him. These hints, clues and references don't make sense unless you watch it a 2nd time, preferbly in the chronological order. Its what made the series fun and rewatchable.

By not paying a bit more attention to the series, you end up missing out alot of character moments or humor, important plot details, references etc. I love this series not just for its new and fresh concept, but its constant rewatchablity thanks KyoAni's amazing ability to put detail in places not even the novels may have referenced. For example, rewatch the culture festival episode again and try and spot Haruhi and the other band members running around for last crash rehersal.

And since the novels are officially licenced recently, once they are out, you can enjoy then at your own leisure and pace without tiring your eyes out from your PC's screen.

And just so Sakabadger can enjoy season 2 more, we should try and refrain from spoiling too much. :P Cause that last one was a huge one.

That's why the broadcast order made it so that the big bang epic episode is the last one.

Also, the chronologically last episode is written by the original novel author specifically for the anime.

I recommend watching it first in broadcast order, then watch it chronologically so you can spot things in the background and understand things better.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

The Second Season of Haruhi Suzumiya - Page 75 - AnimeSuki Forum

While Clannad is getting alot of info coming out of Anime Fest, Haruhi got less so. In fact, reading that particular page in the animesuki thread seems to indicate the author of the novels is having a tiff with his publisher, which is hindering the anime's production.

It seems that there are rumors that volume 10 is the end of the series, while the publisher doesn't want it to end, and rightly so in my opinion, there is no way he can wrap up everything in one volume, not to mention he foreshadowed alot of activities the SOS brigade will do. But it seems like the Author does NOT wanna go beyond 10 volumes, and because the publisher disagrees, he's withholding rights to air season 2.

Now, this is all just rumors, but seeing as Vol 10 had a release date but was then pulled back for a TBA makes this sounds more and more plausible. And now that Animefest had zilch news on Haruhi 2 makes it more and more likely there's something going on behind the scenes.

And it doesn't help that Kyoto Animation has announced a new anime in production. Tonari no 801-chan.

Tonari no 801-chan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Things do not look well for Haruhi.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Chibi Kyoto animated shorts of Haruhi to come exclusively on Youtube. One is an animated adaptation of the official gag manga, "Suzumiya Haruhi-tan no Yuutsuu", and the other is an animated adaptation of the popular doujin 4koma "Churuya-san".

Haruhi is in limbo because of some disputes between the original author of the novels, the publisher of said novels, and of course probably the animations studio themselves got wrapped around it. They obviously cannot air or do anything about Season 2 untill the publisher/author allows them to.

They annouced Tonari no 801-chan because no way can they wait around forever, twirl their thumbs and HOPE the disputes end soon and they can air Haruhi 2. They gotta keep producing SOMETHING. I'm just surprised they didn't go for Little Busters next, since that is the next game Key created after Clannad.

I wonder how much animation for Haruhi 2 was done before the publishers and author started their dispute. I would hate to be one of the animators sitting there, wondering when their hard work is ever gonna air.

Hopefully this airing meanings they've all worked out something. Can't believe they just aired a new episode with practically zero buzz.

Coal Guys, who are doing the K-ON sub, has stated they will also do Haruhi, I like what they did with K-on so far, so I am gonna watch their subs.

Also, because this is broadcast in CHRONOLOGICAL order now, do not expect a new episode untill June 18th. The Mysterique Sign and the Lone Island Syndrome episodes are the next ones.

If you 'insert' this new episode before The Mysterique Sign, Kyon's opening line in The Mysterique Sign now makes sense, since he mentioned the Tanabata Festival and some crazy thing that happened that night...

I was speaking idiomatically.

Do my eyes deceive me? I was going over the new releases over at baka-updates and now see that a.f.k. have released their subs of episode 1 as well. Weren't they like, gone? Is this for real?! I guess there's just one way to find out.....better download this rightaway!
Holy SHIT a.f.k is back!?

YESSS! I love Strato's translations, they are the best!

First Haruhi is finally back, now this?! I somehow feel like I should be checking outside for meteors or some big apocalypse.

EDIT: Just watched their subs, the translation is still excellant. The great thing about Strato is that not only is he good at the translation itself, but he also has better English comphrension then most other fansubs, and a moreextensive vocabulary. I find his work much better than the official Bandai DVD subs.

Seriously, which sounds better, time travellers, or "future men" from Bandai? There are times for literal translations, but this isn't one of them.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

New episode aired! Endless Eight!

New Opening: Suzumiya Haruhi 2009 - Super Driver (New OP) | Random Curiosity

Since it just aired, subs are not out yet, I will be waiting for a.f.k 's subs.

In case people wanna see Season 1 and 2 in the right chronological order, this link would help. My husband and I are caught up chronologically for Endless Eight.

Novels timeline: Suzumiya Haruhi:Timeline - Baka-Tsuki

That list above also includes the anime exclusive episode "Someday in the Rain", since it was also written by the novel's author and has a place in the timeline.

EDIT: Actually, checking the spoilers, turns out Endless Eight is a 2 parter. I guess Sighs comes the week after next.

The things you mention in the spoiler tag may be used in the following episode.

Spoiler:
This episode may be the very first time the 2 weeks occurred.

Yeah, I was kinda' thinking that as well....but then I started wondering how they would fit all that other stuff into just one more episode? Unless Endless Eight is actually a 3-parter?!
Well, the new episode just aired, and you f-ing called it. :P

Yes, Endless Eight is now a 3 parter, not even us novel fans saw it coming.

No a.f.k subs yet, but hopefully soon.

Also, I bought the English version of the first novel, and two things I was annoyed with:

1 . Novel Cover doesn't look anything like a Haruhi novel if you get the soft cover. Its all red, with a lightning symbol, and the title font is hard to make out as a Haruhi novel on a shelf. I found out later on the correct looking cover is the hard cover. Ooooh! This is what happens when AT and T mess up the phone box and you lose internet for a day, no google to help you look something up for 5 mins!

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Nagaru Tanigawa, Item - Barnes & Noble

Should have got it at Amazon... Didn't see the hard cover at B&N. Gonna order it at Amazon soon.

2. The book was placed in the tween section of the Barnes and Nobles over here. Right near f-ing Twilight and under some stupid tween books called "Its not easy being mean" It wasn't even placed next to the Haruhi Mangas.

On the good side, I think translations ARE done by strato from a.f.k. Alot of dialogue and technical jargon and narrations were straight from the a.f.k subs, and the material that were cut from the anime, like the narrations, were his style of translation. The translator name is listed as Chris Pai.

Also, the Concert of Haruhi Suzumiya CD, by Tokyo Philharmonic, is out! I believe Hiro from Eminence was part of the performance!

Jam it back in, in the dark.
