While I know we can't judge whoever they hire as a new director untill we see results, but c'mon, Peter Jackson spend a DECADE of his life creating this world visually for the big screen, made lots of money for New Line, he asked for his fair share and THIS is how they repaid him?!

Its like Matt Groening with Fox on Futurama or something. Obviously New Line decided to value money and crappy movie tie ins than actual good quality films.

Regardless on whether or not a new guy will make a better movie, booting off Jackson for asking his fair share like he was chopped liver is NOT at all respectable.

Here's the link to his email. People please write and tell New Line that this is unacceptable and is a fine example of coporal greediness and impatience than actual creativity and INTEGRITY.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

And you're sure that news is accurate? I mean, Jackson did write and official letter to One Ring .net who DO have contacts with the man, unless this is NEW news that he hasn't heard about it yet?

There's nowhere I can't reach.

So he just gave up? Is that it?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well Ian Mckellan is defintly sad that Peter Jackson won't be making the hobbit, (for now), and he stated himself on his official website after reading the TORN letter that Jackson was placed in position he can't win.

I lost alot of respect for New Line now, never thought they would sell out to make a cheap movie in one year just so they can keep the rights to themselves, ever heard of SHARING?! You made billions off LOTR, sharing The Hobbit isnt gonna make it worst.

Oh and TORN states that the Saul interview isnt that recent.

No director, not even a great one, can possible make the Hobbit good enough to measure up the LOTR trilogy, if New Line forces him or her to make one within a year. Period. The fact that the man Jackson is no longer gonna be part of the project, the same man who create the universe, cultures and everything visually and able to piece the story to fit the screen, makes it even worse.

No sane director is gonna even wanna attempt this, sure it pays high, but the consequences could lead to no one hiring him or her ever again if they screw it up royally, and from the looks of the schedule, I think its damn near impossible.

Hell, New Line wont be able to get good directors on board, not with this kinda of scheduling. Let alone getting Jackson back at this point.

Most amazing jew boots

Anyone who has watched the exteneded DVD extra features (and that term barely works for the hours of footage they put in there) can tell that Jackson went into great detailed with almost every aspect of this impossible film project. There is no one else in the industry so far, from what I can tell, that can top that. You can hear from the interveiws the work, stress and love for the project, you can tell from the numurous commentaries that he cared alot for LOTR. No other main stream movie DVD has shown this kind of Indie style of dedication against all odds to film something that was said to be unfilmable.

Obviously the people at New Line had no idea what everyone has gone through to make the trilogy a reality, all they do is handle all the business and paper work. The only people who have experienced it is Mark Ordesky from New Line, but I doubt he was in the position to sway Bob Shaye, who I initally had respected for when it was he not only funded LOTR, but said it needed to be 3 movies, not 2.

Now all I see is a man who had the success gone to his head, and wouldn't let Jackson who has had 4 hours or less of sleep each night for the pass number of years making LOTR, a cut on some of his dough, which by the way was earned thanks to Jackson, not Shaye. Shayed may have said the word "go", but who ran 10000 miles to the finish line?

This is all just comes down to a typical company having too much success and wants to use LOTR to make more money no matter how badly or rushed the film turns out to be, its alll pre packaged bubble gum products all over again.

I mean guys, remeber Xmen 3? A movie that suffered cause Fox had a pissy fit with Singer and wants to film it now now now, but Singer want to do something else, then they fired him, hired a so so director to rush it out of the door. THIS is the practically the SAME PATH The Hobbit is following. Xmen would have been an awesome trilogy, LOTR had a awesome trilogy, but I don't want to see the prelude to suffer though the same BS.

Can someone else make a good Hobbit movie? Probably. Is there anyone who can make it on par to what Jackson did and be consistent in ONE YEAR? Not very likely.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
