Operation: Firebreak

Operation: Firebreak will run from May 25th to June 29th. The initial batch of missions seems to identical to the original Netcash Cup's. Names are educated guesses based on either Google Translate or the offline modes, don't expect them to be too accurate.


Island Heat Wave C~A
[Start Counter: Ohtoku City Flyer Base]
A large-scale fire attack by the SEED of previously unseen proportions has befallen the Agata Islands. The GUARDIANS have been mobilized to purify the area of SEED cores and infected creatures.

Woodland Flames C~A
[Start Counter: Egam Sacred Grounds towards the Agata RELICS Area]
A new fire attack has been confirmed in the northeast region of the Agata Islands. In addition, the discovery of a never-before-seen enormous SEED core has been reported. Undertake this urgent mission and purify the area!

Burning Plains C~A
[Start Counter: Holtes City Flyer Base]
The damage caused by the attack even here on Parum is spreading. Be prepared to deal with the infected creatures as you quickly execute the purification.

Fire Flower Garden C~A
[Start Counter: Raffon Field Base towards the Lakeshore]
A new type of SEED-core has been identified, the investigation of which revealed that it appears to require several Photon Erasers to purify. Purify the area to gather more data on them.

* Three people are required to clear this mission.

Flame Valley C~A
[Start Counter: Dagora City Flyer Base]
Large numbers of creatures becoming infected in the Galenigare mountain region has been confirmed. Due to the high level of contamination , possible side effects to the body were taken into consideration and a time limit for exposure set. Defeat as many monsters as possible within the time limit!


Some things to note about the event:

First off, there's no mention of any mission removal at all. That doesn't mean it isn't happening, of course, but since the original Japanese Net Cash Cup update mentioned it... well, draw your own conclusions.

In addition, it seems you'll be able to return the Photon Eraser at the Guardians HQ at any time during the event, if you so desire. I assume when you start up another flame event mission, you'll simply receive it again? I take it this is for those of you that simply must have that extra inventory spot.

Just as the Net Cash Cup, there will be a page keeping track of the purification tally and percentages, but it doesn't appear to have been set up yet.

Other Stuff

During the Firebreak event, from May 25th to June 8 the lobbies will be decorated with the wedding theme. Wedding Cake will be on sale in the Variety Shop.

And finally, [B] Grinder A will be added on the 25th, for the lot of you eager to break/upgrade your Grade A weaponry.

What the issues and problems people had were, and what to expect:

System Related
  • Merging of worlds
    -This has nothing to do with the US servers (well it might, more on that later) but as you know, the Japanese servers are split into 2 worlds. AoI plans to merge those worlds together. Whether they keep the room servers separate or not, I don't know. If Sega of America wanted to merge the x360 witht he PS/PC servers, this would be the time to do it, after of course, they equalize the economy.

    Character Cutover.
    -This is a given. Being able to use your pre-existing data on PSU now into the expansion. While it was expected for this to happen, they still needed to test it anyway, after the disasters that was PSODCv2.

Battle Related
  • Battle system refinement (Decision pending)
    -The gist of it is, people find the battle system a little monotonous, since all you're doing is mashing the PA button. They're looking into changing the system to make it interesting again. For example, reverting back to the timing system that PSO used, or to a bigger extreme, keeping the system in PSU, but using timed strikes to boost damage and hit.

    Element system refinement. (Decision pending)
    -As it stands right now, the effect of high element is overpowering to some aspects of gameplay. As a result, it overshadows the want to use a lower element or another element other than the proper. In here, you'll most likely see changes as to what can be done with using other elements or lower ratios.

    Monsters need to use their attack range more instead of just move.
    -You've all seen it before. Monsters are within attacking range of several characters, but all it does is chase after one target. Additionally, sometimes it just attacks the air, when nobody is even near it or evading any attacks. Proper monster attack ranges and actions will change.

    High ranking misssions have monsters that move way too fast, as a result, your only option is to get into a slugfest, where you just trade hits. Enemy movement should be slowed down.
    -The speeds are going to be adjusted later down the road.

    Adjusting attack range because certain weapon appearances change it.
    -It will be adjusted as much as possible. for example, stuff like sweetdeath which actually has a range larger than it should be (it's shorter than a doublesaber, yet has the range of a doublesaber.

Player Related:
  • Photon Arts limit
    -The cap on the number of PAs you can have will not be changed in ANY way. However, it might be changed so that you can retain your PA levels even if you overwrite them.

    When Nanoblast or SUV is used, all status effects should be kept. Additionally, when buffs/debuffs are used, the game should raise it to/keep the higher effect.
    -Nothing has been stated for keeping the better buffs, but they will look into maintaining the effects for SUV and Nanoblast.

    The autorun system needs to be faster at making small directional changes ( I assume this is in tandem with the character tracelock system)
    -This is being looked into and will be adjusted as much as possible.

    When I perform a sitting lobby action, I want to be able to switch to first person perspective (a.k.a. FP camera mode)
    -This can be done.

Item Related
  • When items drop, elements and percents were already pre-set. We want this to be random.
    -It will be changed that the atirbutes may become random (sounds like some items will be random, and there will be some that are not)

    We want the Madoogs position to be over the shoulder, just like in PSO.
    -This will be adjusted at a similar position to PSO.

    We want the combination limitation of clothes to be eased up on (i.e. we basically want the system to be like when the swimsuit bug was in effect).(Decision pending)
    -Stuff like bathing suits will be classified now as top and bottom. As for combining parts of other clothes, decision hasn't been made yet.

    I want to be able to put on the costumes that the Casino staff and the Sacred shrine maidens wear.
    -Color variations for each race are being designed right now.

Interface related
  • We want to be able to send mail directly from the partner cards (i.e. Send mail option when browsing partner cards)
    -Confirmed and in progress.(Even though the article basically repeats the issue as an answer.)

    Make the default when responding to mail "Do not quote" (Personal note: This one better make it, I hate how the default is quote mail)
    -Default will be changed to "Do not quote"

    We want the maximum number of cards to be displayed as well as how many we personally have (i.e. I have 50 cards, so 50/whatever the max is.)
    -This will be added.

Synthesis and Grinding related
  • We want you to adopt the "no destroy" grind policy into the real service.
    -This feature is scheduled to be implemented in (the expansion).

    We want you to implement some risk associated with grinding weapons. It's good that we can't destroy our weapons, but it seems too easy. (With enough money applied to it)
    -The gist of it is, there were a lot of concerns and anxieties with having weapons destroyed by grinding, so the original plan was to reset the weapon, but decrease the max grind by 1. It didn't turn out this way in the beta, so it's up in the air as to what will be the end result.(The answer given here is very vague and doesn't explain much but does explain the thought process so rather than translating this, I decided to explain it my way)

    I want to be able to delete board entries already loaded into my PM.
    -You can manually delete it (in the expansion).

    I want other people who can see the PM to be able to see if items taken out are success or failure (This is a good one, this basically stops any so-called friends from lying to you by saying the item failed when it in fact, passed).
    -It wll be made so that all people in the room excluding the owner of the PM can see whether the item is pass/fail.

Mission Related
  • WE want you to make it so that if a Partner character (read:NPC) dies, it will not effect the grade.

    -Unlike the beta, if a partner character becomes incapacitated, it will not affect the outcome.

    WE want a "Return to lobby" option at each checkpoint. (i.e. Warp directly to the lobby from say, block 3 of a mission, rather than wapr to block 1, then leave.)
    -This option will be added.

    We want low rank mission rewards to be adjusted to better facilitate players of a lower level. (Decision pending)
    -All missions are scheduled to be rebalanced, so that starting players can have fun and won't have to struggle.

    (There should be one more point here, but not going to bother with it, it's VERY vague, and while I get what its saying literally, I have zero understanding of the context, so if anyone wants to give it a shot, go nuts; all I can say is, it probably has something to do with integrating the shop, the photon charger and the lobby warp into one NPC; it's also a decision pending so its not as important.)
Shop related
  • In the makeover shop, when something is changed, parts are removed. We'd like for this not to happen, since the look I choose may not work very well after the parts are equipped.
    -Parts will no longer be removed in that state, and you will have a new option to add or remove parts while making your choices on makeover.

    We want a "Character recreate" option because of the new face types that were added. (as in remake your character look like when you first create a character, but without destroying your game progress)
    -WE won't be able to allow this option, but what we can do is allow users to change their face, the options on the face and the voices. (In other words, no body proportions).

My room related
  • For Room goods installed, we want you to change the color of the floor to show where objects can not be installed (Anybody who's played with the grid system knows what a nuisance this can be with objects that take 4 cells but look like they fit in 2, like the fan.)
    -It will be done.

    When setting up my partner machine for greetings and appreciation messages, I want to be able to change the shape and color of my text and text bubbles.
    -You can already do this by using chat commands (!,@,#, etc.), but you can not use the Cut-in chat commands for this.


Whew, that was a gigantic mess of text. This should give some of you an idea what you can expect. By no means is it a final listing, but it goes to show just where they're at with the expansion.

Also interesting to know that the no-break grind system MIGHT have some downsides to it, as it'd be overpowering to let every weapon in existence grind to 10 when a lot of money is applied. Also interesting is what they might think of to modify how your elemental ratios work too.

As a final note, I saw a lot of these suggestions over at the Sonic Team BBS during the beta; goes to show that if you have a good idea, let them know and they'll do something about it. (Although I have no clue how well SoA will do the same for the US/EU audience.

I'm currently in Sydney Australia, but I tend to come on during the USA evenings. Around 7 or 8 ish. Mostly cause that's when my boyfriend in the US is online. We're gonna be on alot more since the fire event is on.

In fact, I am curently on RIGHT NOW.

Your characters wont get deleted untill several monthes, and even then it might not happen cause NA severs have so much room!

And you don't need your Disk to play PSU, as long as you didn't uninstall the game.

Firebreak will soon be over, but we look forward to OUR version of the famitsu cup, which have those Ex missions with gimped enemies that have 500% exp, and rares drop like its raining them.

And yeah, PSU is one of those games for more casual players, players who want more content are all probaly playing WOW, LOTRO or FF11.

We can meet up in the weekend or something.

That's cause even though a planet is purified, any points we make contributes to the TOTAL mark. It however means we won't get the other planets purified, but all that affects is the clothing discounts. While there ARE new clothes coming out and a 50% discount would be nice, I think we can all agree Luck 3 akll week > 50% off clothing. And we still get SOME discount off anyways, just not 50%.

Also Ambition of the Illuminus has been set for September 27th, JP. Meaning its likely we get it in November.

Various updates and changes will come for AoI Expansion, hunter types will be alot less nerfed.

01. "Just Attack" added
The "Just Attack" is the culmination of all of that talk about a timing system with melee attacks. If you manage to time it correctly, your third hit will pull off this move, which seems to be a more powerful attack.

02. "Just Counter" added
This is a special guard which seems to be tied to melee attacks. I'll look more into this once I have a chance.

03. PP recovery from normal attacks
It says something about recovering PP at a higher rate during critical times. I'll look more into this one, too, once I have a chance.

04. Monster areas of attack
This will be adjusted, I believe to make the monster AI use its own attacks more wisely instead of just chasing players around. I'll look more into it.

05. Easing of racial stat calculations.
Looks like the differences between races will be let up just a bit.

06. Weapon grinding
The method of grinding SonicTeam had mentioned before (where you don't lose your weapon from a failed grind, just it's stats) will be added. I'll go over this some more just to make sure there isn't anything I'm missing, though.

07. PA disk change
It looks like you will now have the ability to change an already-learned PA into a disk if you don't want it. Also, a new double saber PA is revealed here: Absolute Dance.

08. New types
The type requirements for Acrosfighter and Acrotecher have been made official.
Acrofighter: Hunter lv.3, Ranger lv.5
Acrotecher: Hunter lv.3, Force lv.5

Since I don't see too much of a translation other than the first post, I guess I can translate said scan, and add a few bits of information that was posted over at Shougai PSO who got their info over a 4 page section in the recent Famitsu.

1. Just Attack - Espio summed it up pretty well. On the 3rd invocation of your attack command, if you timed it correctly, you'll hear a new sound, see a new graphical effect. The attack itself might have a special effect, but from performing a "Just Attack" you'll be able to cancel into a photon art as well (for those who don't understand fighting game concepts, this means the elimination of any delay of the attack leading into your next attack). Additionally, this system will apply to photon arts too, but to a lesser extent (probably means it won't let you cancel 2 of the same PA).

2. Just Counter - Who said Evasion was useless? Ok, so maybe a lot of people do now, but this might change with the inclusion of Just Counter. Taking another page out of the fighting games handbook, Just Counter stipulates that whenever you evade or block an attack, if you time it right, you can guardcancel (see above explanaiotn for cancel if you don't get this term, but change attack delay to evasion animation/delay) into an attack or photon art of your choice.

3. PP recovery from normal attacks. Simple explanation here, all normal *melee* attacks (sorry gunners, you're outta luck here) will recover small ammounts of PP, probably in the 1-2 range. In the case of a Critical attack, you will recover a large amount, many times more than a normal attack.

4. Monster Range. this is as I explained it before but just for monsters (no sign of weapon range adjustment). Rather than chasing down players in attempt for them to lure away, a monster will now use its attack range and knowledge of its attack options to its full ability. Fear of Bil de Vear and Goushin +1.

5. ELEMENTAL stat calculations. Sorry everyone, there's no mention of Racial stat changes here. Not too many details are given here, but expect a boost that makes low elemental ratio weapons and armors MORE useful.

6. No break grind system. You know this as well as I explained it last time. And yes, this IS the -1 system they're implementing. For those who don't know what I'm talking about, what this means is, if you fail the grind, your weapon gets reset to zero, but your max grind gets tagged with -1. Fail once, yur max is +9. Fail 10 times? You have really bad luck.

7. PA disk system. Espio's posting got it right. You are able to convert loaded PAs into Photon arts disks. From further information from Famitsu, this can NOT be exploited. Once you have Photon arts levels on a disk, you can't trade the disk or sell it, and unlike the Final PA sstem, it's unusable to othber characters, even on the same account.

8. New classes. You know all there is to it. One side note. Which most of you know from my ramblings. AT cast speed for all force weapons is the fastest of all classes

From Shougai PSO, I have a synopsis of a recent article from Famitsu. (Actually, it's from the same article that the small clip I posted this morning came from.) No scans of these pages yet, but I'll be on the lookout.

New Fields
Il Carbo Base: I'm sure some of you guys have heard me mention this one. You could see it when you went into one of the mission counters on Moatoob; I think it was when you left Casino Volyale. Anyway, this map takes place inside an AMF base in Vio Tonga.

Saguraki Conservation District: Another one I've mentioned in the past. It's accessible from one of the mission counters at the Pavilion of Air on Neudaiz. The article describes this area as a mountainous path lined with blooming cherry trees.

AMF Central HQ: Missions here take place inside the AMF HQ in Holtes City.

Habilao Restricted District: Not sure where this one takes place, but it's described as a forested area with really high photon concentrations.

Caves: Just like from PSO. Are we back on Ragol...?

Mine: Just like from PSO. Hmm...

(Not trying to imply anything with those comments. The article doesn't specifically or officially confirm Ragol as being present here.)

New Enemies
Over 30 new enemies will appear in Ambition of the Illuminus. This article specifically mentions a new SEED-Form, the SEED-Ardite, as well as Alteratsu Goug, which beta testers will probably recall from the Pavilion of Air.

New Weapons
Van-brella (Shotgun): This gun is supposed to be designed after PSO's Madam's Umbrella. (No, seriously.)
Vishi Adan (Whip): A crimson-colored whip.
Eblozeek (Shadoog): Described as having a design like a wing bent at a sharp angle. (Probably a throwback to a certain MAG type.)
Ohsobera (Double Saber): Described as having half-moon-shaped blades.
Gungnata (Spear): The site says it has two points on it. (Like a double saber?)
Shura-hiken (Slicer): Designed after PSO's Flight Cutter.
Dory (Madoog): Says it has an emerald green body.
Flowduke (Shadoog): It has a flowery motif.
Madam-brella (Shotgun): Themed after Madam's Umbrella from PSO.
Ryo-sabeud (Twin Saber): Doesn't give a good description; just says they have sharp blades.
Ryo-beamtore (Twin Handgun): Described as having large barrels.

New Costumes
Twelve "PSO Replica" costumes will be available along with numerous new designs exclusive to the expansion. The twelve replica costumes cover all of the classes from PSO. The original clothing and parts sets are as follow.

Gigas Faust: It's described as a straight-forward "rocket punch" attack.
Lapier Fluge: Anyone within the radius of this SUV's blast will have their HP recovered, any negative status effects removed and if anyone happens to be knocked out, well, not anymore! (Didn't see this one coming!)

New Photon Arts
Vishi Grudda (Whip)
Chikkyo-renjin (Slicer) - I'm not sure if this is a typo on the site's part, but I recall there being a PA for the slicer in the beta called Chikki Kyoren-jin.
Renga Chujin-shou (Twin Dagger)

The community IS growing. Just today I've played with 4 newly registered players! And before that helped several others!

Saying it wont grow at all is a lie, saying it wont grow MUCH at least has some reason behind it. But I still believe the expansion can increase the population. Hell, my boyfriend just convinced a close friend of his to join us in PSU.

Its not gonna be WOW, but its not gonna wither and die either.
