My boyfriend and his roomate went to the LA screening, he said overall it was a good dub, Mena Suvari who played Aeris thankfully didnt suck as much as she was in KH2 (thank god!), and all of the audience each got a free poster and the 2 disk soundtrack. (I had to PAY FOR MINE! Dammit)

The poster is this image.

http://www.adventchildren.net/ff7ac/movie/info.php

Middle DVD image

Lucky, he got to see the movie for free, an exclusive showing I might add, a free Soundtrack and a free poster.

These people were there:

Tetsuya Nomura
Steve Burton
Mena Suvari
Rachael Leigh Cook

There were also 3 Japanese crew there as well which he didn't regonise, probably the producers.

All in all , he and his roomate really enjoyed the night.

Quote:
What is wrong is trying to convince yourself and others that such a film is great. The hordes of people who are convinced that this film is great and will go to lengths to prove it just convince me that most FF fans have been so desperate that they have lost their ability to recognize bad shit when they see it. For god sake, at least Star Trek and Star Wars fans have the dignity to admit when their genres are going wrong.

I was disappointed enough to see that Square has now resorted to mining their old games instead of focusing on creating new games. It is important to remember that Square got where it was moving forward, not looking backwards. What disappoints me more is that there are so many fans that are so willing to buy into Square's new direction.
Thank you, you have said exactly what I wanted to say about SE milking out his old stuff for desperate blind fans instead of working on new things. Not to mention while AC was cool to watch, its not superior to what FF7 gave us, and it really doesnt have much of a plot. Don't get me started on Dirge of Cerberus...

I guess people are so desperate to see the characters in FF7, they just go blind, and willing to take what they can get.

And god forbid if that AC.net April Fool joke was true, I would have blown SE company to smithereens, we don't need another FF7 spin off for the love of god. A remake wll also be a bad idea, cause you're wasting good talent on the PS3 to make a game that has been out for years. I would rather they move on to other new original projects.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Cid is suppose to sound like a hick, cause in the Japan version he had a country Osaka accent. They stuck to the context despite the rather negative reactions from most fans, and I think that's brave of them to do.

I find it strange that FF7 fans can't tell that Cid lives in a place thats equivalent to country side in the real world... I pictured him in that accent when I played up to his village or town.

And like Leknaat said, the speech style used for Cid, with all that swearing among other things can easily be interpreted as a good ol' boy. The fact that Japanese Cid had a country accent helped. Its certainly not the casting director or voice actor or even the voice Director's fault that people fail to pick these things up despite that they're fans of Cid. I think some fans sometimes need to calm things down and think about WHY they chose to do it that way instead of complaining about it all the time.

Watched the English clip. WTF, I thought they were reanimating mouths to match English VOs? Lazy bastards.
I'm sure that FMV style footage is harder to re render and re lipsync than PS2 in game graphics. KH2 FMVs re lip synced cause there's not alot of dialouge and there's only in the end, two FMVs that last for less than 15 mins.

This is a 1 and a half hour movie. There's no way they're gonna go back and re lipsync everything. A movie as big as this, not even the 7 month wait could have given enough time to re lipsync. Unless they did a the KH2 thing of localising almost at the same time as development of the Japanese version was going on. And even that is a long stretch.

The DVD has both Japanese and English soundtracks and subtitles in English, Chinese, Korean, Malaysian and a number of others. The main thing that caught my eye and stopped me from purchasing it was the fact that it was only 1 disc. The only extra included in the disc was the Reminiscence of Final Fantasy VII, no commentary, trailers or deleted scenes were mentioned.

I couldn't find ERA's website (if they have one) but here's a site that is taking orders for the HK version. Unfortunately, it doesn't include much information on what is or isn't included on the disc.

http://www.sensasian.com/view/product.cgi/EN/V11118-D

Anyone else seen this around?
Thanks for informing me, I'm from Hong Kong, and I'll see if I can check it out at HMV Causeway Bay sometime this week.

Its one disk cause usually HK versions of DVDs are crap. Even DVDs that don't have vanilla disks in the USA ended up in vanilla disks in HK. There were also cases where the DVD in the USA is one disk with features, and yet the HK distibution morons cut out all those features and made it vanilla.

We get it first probably cause we're closer to Japan, and there may have been some agreement to release it as soon as the dub was ready. In Hong Kong if the movie you want on DVD gets distributed then that means its gonna be cheap.

It also means the surround sound quality is usually lessened (know this for a fact, I know a man who rates the sound and picture on DVDs as occupation, HK DVDs are one of the worse, USA and Japan the best, some England ones are great too), and sometimes the extra features are also missing, hence why I don't buy HK DVDs.

Remember guys, for a earlier release, we probably lost all the extra features, personally I rather wait for the USA disk for all the extra features and much better sound, HK people are always getting gyped on those.

And HMV is everywhere world wide, even in Japan or England.

As a personal note, I'm surprised they even bothered to release it in Hong Kong now, by now I say at least 90% of the FF fan population in HK have already downloaded the fan subs already, considering most gamers I know here (I know quite a number) all pirate games. If they lose sales cause of that then I blame whichever company that made the dumb decision to delay the release, they had it coming.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Ok, from the back cover, its obvious that the 2nd disk is the same as the advent pieces Special DVD.

And lo and behold, cantonese(Chinese)subtitles! There is NO WAY I'm getting that gyped Hong Kong vanilla disk now!

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I believe Advent Children.net forums had some fans listing out some major interesting points from the commentary, but I hate going there cause it takes forever to load.

I think aside for Last Order and the commentary, it looks ok, I'm not sure if the USA DVD has the FF7 Reminisque featurette though, it consists of some Live actions shots and we hear Clouds phone calls and messages as he travels through the fields, after each call or message from a different character, we see scenes from the Orignal FF7 game set to Tifa's piano theme, One Winged Angel, and Aeris theme Orchestral.

I'll try asking these guys at HMV whether or not there's another version coming as well or if this is it. I was really tempted to buy it but........

How disappointing........

I suggest importing the American version, a slightly earlier release does not justify all this loss of extra features. Ask if HMV will import it.

I'm heading to LA for college in May, so I probabl hold it off till then.

Please read carefully, the official REAL HK DVD is out now, with the English dub and Japanese voices. The one you're referring to is the movie leaked on the net as a movie file.

Actually it was someone working in SE Japan who leaked it, Nomura was pissed as hell, they managed to find the person and he was sued.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I think since the FF7 compliation series was announced, along with the spoiler trailers, one has to at least realised that all this IS just a way to cash in by milking FF7 off using products that look pretty and has no substance. I don't care what others say, DoC would NOT make good sales if it was an original title and not part of FF7.

I enjoyed FF7AC, as it is STILL more entertaining than the dismal Spirits Within, however, the story does lack plot, depth and development.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Despite the fact I still wont' get DoC, the fact that Square at least admits they didn't do a good job for the Japanese version and fixed things in the NA version shows improvement in the way they run things. They have talent in their company, but certain decisions or games they decided to develop along with their rather xenphobic attitude at times gets me. Now that the NA version has vastly improved it means they finally realise there are fans outside of Japan.(Now please also have some focus on Asia as well.) Now if only they make American releases more closer to the Japan one... I mean look at Capcom!

Square has mentioned before that there is a definite "end" to the series, so I don't think it'll just continue on needlessly.
Definte end there is, but for how long? Inhert said above that they will keep it up for 10 years. Can you say decline in original work and quality?

I doubt they have that much man power to handle a PS3 FF7 remake or a new game, when they got most of their crew is still working on the FF13s. Unless the new game is "action based" again, which means it has a shorter story, its unlikely we will hear anything about it for a while.

If they announce a PS3 FF7 game before the 13s are even out, then its gonna be some sort of direct competition wouldn't it? Shouldn't they focus and make sure that FF13 gets the spotlight first before they move it on to an FF7 PS3 game? The demand for a remake will always be there, whereas the spotlight , marketing for FF13 is a one shot thing.

But god with the development speed the XIIIs are going, I doubt I will hear about this till years later.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
