That's pretty much what I do. I don't go outside for much during mosquito season. Aside from the obvious things to do to keep them from biting you, I heard from somewhere that eating a lot of onion and garlic keeps them off. I'm pretty sure that that's some old wives' tale, though.
I don't do much to deal with bites. I just ignore them. If they're particularly itchy, I just spray whatever anti-itch stuff we have on hand on them. When I was little, I would scratch the hell out of them, but, when I was about seven or so, I scratched one on my ass so much that I ended up with infantigo. I haven't scratched bites since then.
