Bleh that was complicated. Ok the tournament thread is now up!

Sorry for the delay. I found out at the last second NightofShadow decide not to participate. That means Crash Landon will have to sit out for round one.
That also means that one person will sit out on every round.

Good luck everyone =)

Haha, nice match ^-^.
I wasn't expecting Darkrai or Arceus! I would've tossed in something a little stronger. And I couldn't hear what you were saying over the mic during the last minute before we logged off. Though I caught the part about you mentioning the two ubers were not EV trained. Still they packed a punch and if I didn't get my toxic spikes in play I would've lost real fast.
Also, damn your Skarmory for causing a draw against Miltank .

They were?
I thought Arceus had the highest base stats in the entire game. Any of its standard moves could throw my team around like a rag doll. Frankly, I thought you just made a few bad choices while fighting me (Thunder on Nidoqueen? =p.) Which was enough to turn the match around if you think about it.

It's true, Darkrai is weak defensively. But what do you need a defense for if you're putting everyone to sleep (and possibly gaining HP through Dream Eater?) I'm no expert on using legendary pokes but I wouldn't say he's harmless. Arceus on the other hand, well I don't know what happened there. You're supposed to Choice Band it and just use Judgement all over my pokemon

How ya doing, buddy?

You're both right =o.
Toxicroak's Dry Skin ability allows it to absorb water attacks but gains a 2x weakness to fire attacks. If sunny day is in effect Toxicroak will lose some HP per turn (1/16th I'm guessing.) Opposite goes for rain dance, of course.

Would leftovers stack with the healing from Dry Skin?
Yeah, of course! I think using Leftovers is the recommended choice if you're planning to have him run around during a rain dance. Life Orb can work too if you intend on having a more offensive Toxicroak.

I'm interested =o.

But I'm also asking why random effect items like Quick Claw are out. It helped me out in a pinch and it made for a epic match *usually.*

Hmm I wouldn't change anything. It's got a good type coverage and you're able to throw the opponent into a confusion status if you need that extra turn to setup something else. Though, Hypnosis may give you better results if you don't mind a 70% success rate.

You'll just have to test him out =p.

Oh yeah. I trained a new pokemon but it's not for competitive play. I decided to train one of the weakest pokemon in the game, Spinda .

Right now I gave it this moveset for now:
Teeter Dance (I wonder what it'll do in a 2v2 match)
Faint Attack/Dizzy Punch (still deciding, but I kept Faint Attack at the moment.)
Endure
Flail
Hold Item: Salac Berry
Ability: Own Tempo

You can already tell I can do alot of wacky stuff with this guy. Any suggestions?

A doubles tournament sounds good. Assuming we're all here I don't think the Metronome Tournament will last more than a day. So we can follow up on another tournament the next day. Or in a few days if we need time to prepare.

Crap I almost forgot. I didn't post the results yet =O.
And I didn't see Crash today or yesterday while I was online. But I PM'ed him about that just now.
In either case I'll add up the points tomorrow and find out who won by a mile, I think we're all getting tired of waiting!

Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind participating in another tournament.

...is the current one over?
Holy crap, best pokemon analysis I ever read xD
So I basically made a variant of a Enduring Flailer, awesome!

And yes the current one is over, me and Crash just have one match to finish off then I'll post the results.

XD

The descriptions on the movesets are wonderful... But I could only wonder why the hell they made Spinda so horrible. I always thought it was a cool Pokemon and before I actually looked at it's base stats, I was just about to raise one.

Since Kairyu's doing that, I'll see what else I could do.

Anyone up for a Spinda Tournament?
I often wonder why most normal type pokemon have horrible, HORRIBLE base stats.

Haha, instead of a Spinda Tournament we should have a normal type tournament. Minus the upper tiered pokemon like Blissey and Miltank.

I've got a weird question. I can't explain this one.

Last night, I was purging my boxes of unnecessary Pokemon. You know, releasing them. I had a Lvl. 7 Buizel that I don't need, so I sent it away.

But it came back?! "Was it worried about you?", the game told me.

I've never had this happen. I never even used it, so it shouldn't have built up any affection. Is the refusal to leave a sign of something good, like Max IVs or anything?

This doesn't make sense.
Wow, never heard of that happening. Then again I never had to purge my storage area yet.
Maybe it was the first pokemon you caught in that game?

I was speaking idiomatically.

1. I suppose this is true if you haven't EV trained your pokemon beforehand. If you don't know what EV training is well then read this:
Spoiler:
Effort Values (also known as EVs) are points that can increase your Pokemon's
stats.

Each Pokemon can have a maximum of 510 EV points. For every 4 EV points you
put into one stat that stat will increase by 1 point at Level 100.

For example: Lets say you have a Lv. 99 Jolteon and you want to raise its
speed, if you fight 4 Rattatas and then train it to Lv. 100 your
Jolteon will gain 1 extra point in speed than it normally would
have.

If trained properly a Pokemon can obtain a total of 127 extra points on to its
stats.

There are 2 ways to obtain EVs.

The first way is to use vitamins, each vitamin gives you 10 EV points, but you
can only use 10 of each vitamin. So if you use 10 Calciums, your Pokemon will
gain a total of 100 EV points.

The second way is to fight other Pokemon to obtain the EVs that they give.
Keep in mind that you'll only receive EVs if you obtain Experience points.

You can read more about it here.
2. I don't know about that, so I can't confirm this .

3. From what I can see it makes no difference in fighting against trainers or wild pokemon. You can still earn EVs from either battle, but it would appear to be easier to simply fight trainers the whole time. Since their levels are generally higher. But if you know anything about EVs you don't want to keep fighting the same pokemon over and over because you will not be maximizing your stats (remember, 255 EV points is the max you can earn per stat. While the total spread cannot exceed 510 EV points.)

I hope that made sense, even I'm a bit new to the whole idea of EV training.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Hmm I'm not so sure. Are you sure it's not a Shellos from the east side of Sinnoh? It fooled me too at first. The only reason I didn't think it was a shiny pokemon was because it didn't "sparkle" or anything. So I looked it up and found out there were two versions of the same pokemon ._.

As for Shiny pokemon and their attributes, there are no differences. Just a different color palette. If they're legit they do make good trading material.

As for putting a shiny pokemon up on GTS, I wouldn't recommend it. Most of the people there do all sorts of hacks and you'll probably end up with something you didn't want in the first place. Or a massive glitch of some kind.

Well after a few days of jamming on Pokemon Battle Revolution I think I finally have a good tournament idea.

To those that know the game setup why not have a Sunny Park styled tournament? Yay or nay? Same set of rules and eveything =)
For those that don't know the rules, it would be as follows:
- Only Pokemon lv.5 and below are allowed to enter.
- Pokemon must have a evolution form (like Bulbasaur or Pichu.)
- Pokemon must be at their lowest evolutionary form (This means Pikachu isn't allowed since Pichu is actually the lowest evolutionary form.)
- You are allowed six Pokemon in your roster. Battles themselves will be done as double battles with each player using four Pokemon.
- Each Pokemon in your roster must be different!
- Each of your Pokemon must have a different hold item (or none.)
- And lastly, all fixed damage moves are banned! This means no Sonicbooms or Dragon Raging folks.

I really enjoy playing in this mode since it requires very little time to prepare. I mean, you can only gain 4 levels after hatching the egg. The only time consuming part would be hatching said egg or figuring out what egg moves to acquire =p.

Haha, if not we can always go for a good old fashioned doubles tournament. Also, I'm a bit "eh" on the idea of having a Metronome tournament. There seems to only be a few of us that are willing to try it out. So I'll save myself some work and move onto something else. Like the above tournament ideas.

Hopefully I'll be able to do this. Going off to college soon, and I'm not gonna have a laptop to work with since mine's not being shipped til' the day I move in.

I should have a couple Pokemon ready though.

Also, for the tournament format... Are we doing single elimination? If we are, can we still keep the best out of 3 format on the rounds?
Yeah, more than likely. I really don't want to drag out the tournament for more than 2 days this time around. It would be awesome if we could do this all in one sitting~ but I'd rather not put my hopes up that high.

I'd like to join.

just for future reference, my hours got changed, so I can play anytime after 1300 CST.

*edit* you do not know how tough this was for me to choose who I wanted ._.

Oh yeah, did anybody see this?
Strange promotion. Any reason why they're doing this?

Maybe I'm only saying that because I had a really low initial expectation for the game and I got it cheap through ebay. But hey at least I'm able to copy ALL my pokemon from D/P to PBR within minutes .

Checking for Effort Points? If you haven't been keeping track in the first place I believe it's near impossible to calculate exactly how much EP's you collected for any one pokemon.
I could be wrong though.

And there is no TM for the move Sing. From what I've seen you can only get this move either by leveling up or through breeding. Not many pokemon can learn it as a egg move though.

I have no idea what pokemon you're trying to raise but you might get what you want by researching more into the move Hypnosis.

Yeah, as for Mew, if you had that special item to get it in any of the 3rd Gen games, you would meet Mew on Faraway Island or something like that. When you encounter it, you have a chance of meeting it as a shiny.
Ohh, I didn't know this. I missed out on a lot this past generation. I guess this is what I get for just playing through sapphire real quick and never touching it again until pokemon D/P was out.

On the subject of shiny pokemon I've recently made a new record of making a 39 chain using a pokeradar. And STILL no shiny pokemon. I'm beginning to wonder if the only way to get the shiny pokemon I want is to cheat .

Yeah I know ._.
After following everything in the Pokeradar guide it did show me how to consistently get a 20~25 chain instead of a 9 or 10 chain. But yeah, the odds still stand at 1 in 8192 battles no matter how long I chain. What I really need is more free time and infinite patience, haha.

Eh, I don't know about trading for it. Most of the offers I read about seem kinda fishy to me (I guess I have to assume they all use AR to get their "legit" shinies.) I may end up taking one of those trades one of these days. But for now I simply want to get a shiny pokemon without the extra help.

I have a couple shiny Furret. Any specific gender/trait? Yell when you want to trade.
Sent you a PM about that earlier today =o

Spending some time in the Serebii wifi chat makes me want to slit throats any time I read 'shiny'.

So, did anybody get a creator's Psyduck? I know I didn't.
Oh geez, I can only imagine what it would be like to sit in a chat room full of pokemaniacs.

I didn't have any luck either.
I tried a few times to see I would get lucky but all I got were everyone else's Psyducks~ With that in mind, anyone want a Psyduck?

I've no idea why the Japanese would even want Bidoofs. It's not like the stupid things are unavailable in their carts.
The same reason why every pokemon playing weeaboo must have a Slowpoke with a Japanese name. As far as I can tell the Japanese version of the game cannot use English letters to name their Pokemon. And of course we can't type using Japanese characters.
So it's easy to imagine people trading their "good" pokemon for another pokemon with a certain name.

I traded for a hand full of pokes over GTS just to get a variety of different trainer numbers for the daily lottery. I need PP ups and so far I'm only scoring Exp.shares, master balls or backdrops. What the hell .

Oh with that said anyone with free time wanna trade me the following?
4x PP up
1x TM64
1x Focus Band

If you do want specific stuff in return just let me know. I don't mind!
