Hey everybody,
It seems I am supposed to create a thread so we, the general game music enthusiast can coordinate an album to represent this forum. Sounds fun? Then keep reading.

Things to take note of:

All songs nominated cannot be exclusive to any one 1st party game (ie Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft/X-box.) Roughly speaking, anything not covered by the other GFF Game Music albums is allowed here.
~~Also, no RPG tracks. Sorry!~~ They're allowed.
It seems the RPG album was done away with, so it is allowed here. Provided its not a exclusive 1st party title.
Post what you are nominating!
MP3 appears to be the choice format for the compilation. As far as bitrate goes, I say go no lower than 128kbps CBR. Though VBR (-V 2 --vbr-new aka “-alt --preset-standard”) or better is preferred. And absolutely NO transcoding!
Total length for the compilation: One CD ~ Or around 75 minutes.
Where to send your nominations? Uploading directly to my ftp would be perfect.

Yousendit.com, Megaupload.com, and Sendspace.com are some sites that will do this.
Nomination limit?
None technically, I'm still devising a way to choose all nominated tracks. But just to be safe try to nominate at least 3 songs.

As for “how” the nominations will be chosen, I would like to leave up to you guys.
One idea I had was to divide up the CD length according to how many people (preferably established members) want to nominate.
Example: let’s say 8 people decide to participate, divide that with 75~78 minutes. That means each person is allotted around 9¾ minutes.
Only problem with that is only a certain amount of members can participate.
What the hell is going on? This thread might give you a idea.

I see what you mean.
Depending on what happens we may be able to merge General Game Music, Mario's Warp Room, Microsoft's Window, Sony Scape, and General PC Gaming forums as one album. Of course this depends how much participation is gathered. For now I'll stick with Capo's arrangement, we have to at least give this thread a few days to settle.

As for choosing the rarest songs from everyone's collection, I can't see why that wouldn't work; I think it becomes more of the matter of choosing stuff we all can agree on. Maybe we even could go as far as nominate a few of the past top SOTW entries. I don't know, just brainstorming here.

Technically there is no limit as to how much you can nominate (I just said 10 minutes worth of music since its probable given with the number of participants.) Depending on the way it turns out I will most likely get back to you to narrow down your choices.

I think this question has been beaten to death but I'll try to explain this more clearly.

The reasoning behind it is the other forums are technically covering the main 1st-party games. Basically anything that is not covered by the other gff VGM soundtracks is allowed here. One good example of this would be the ability to nominate Sega music.

If its purely a PC game then it would go to the general PC gaming album. Again if its on a console as well then I'd say its ok to nominate it.

::sigh:: After more thinking I can see the odd loophole. Even if it were on a PC and wonderswan would the game be allowed in both the General PC games and General Game Music? Or only the former?
I guess I'll bring that to Capo's attention. Though If it were completely up to me I would allow it, as it is on more than one platform.

Well, if we do it my way then everyone gets a chance to submit at least a few songs. Of course this would instantly change if let's say 75 members participated. The system can't work if everyone could only choose a one minute song ._.

In such a event, some form of elimination (voting probably) would be done. Not sure quite yet what that might be. Maybe a quick and painful tournament of Chopper Challenge will settle things. Each loser automatically surrenders one or two minutes to the victor, depending on the number of participants

I've updated the rules once again. And yes, RPG music is allowed on this album

. Just keep in mind that it cannot be a 1st party title (ie Super Mario RPG.)
And I suppose H-game music is ok provided it is a multi-platform title.

And for some of you that are nominating please provide a http link for those tracks or upload them to my ftp (which is now open.)

As long as its not the exact same track as "Wake Up" and its used in-game then it is eligible.
edit: Heh, I should've read your last post more carefully. I got Map of Arrakis confused and thought that was the arranged track. Sorry!

Got to start selection kinda sorta soon. I don't want to leave the nominations sitting around for too long so.. I think I will be cutting off any new nominations somewhere near the last week of this month! The 24th sounds like a good day =o. Yes it was, though not completely.
I added your points (the nominators) with mine (I rated each track on a 12 point scale) and another friend I know (18 point scale per nomination-- he's even pickier than I am when it comes to listening to vgm. So I gave him more voting power.)
The tracks that didn't get points from nominators were reviewed by me and I hand picked each one (nothing else I could do without taking more time.)
After all that, I basically picked the top rated songs and added them to the tracklist. A few exceptions had to be made to make everything fit and then I even added my own nominations (they're the two tetris songs.)

If everyone is ok with it, I can post the point results for most of the nominations later today. Anyway, it made for some interesting results and for the most part it worked. I thought it turned out fairly well too

Thanks! One of my main concerns was to pick a even variety of nominations and most importantly keep the album interesting. In my opinion that was accomplished. Though I believe its you that will be the judge of that

.

Anyway, at the rate the coordinators are submitting their albums you should be able to download the entire soundtrack by mid or late next month!
