Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk (PS3) - 30 Points - This a bomb ass JRPG right here. After years of putting up with JRPGs and their melodramatic bullshit it's nice to come across one that basically goes: "So uh, you've gotta go rescue your sister, but that's really not
that big a deal. You should just go have a fucking blast doing whatever you want (and synthesizing things.
SYNTHESIZE ALL THE THINGS) and you'll probably rescue her eventually". And you know what? It fucking WORKS. The game is genuinely fun and never feels like a chore to play. I actually played through it twice just to get all the endings, that's how much I fucking loved this game. The combat is as simple as can get (and the difficulty curve is just right), though the game does have plenty of bonus bosses for people who need a real challenge. A joy to play from start to finish, the sequel coming this March has a lot to live up to.
Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies (3DS) - 20 Points
Oh my god the fucking DLC case. There are NO WORDS that can properly describe how absurd this game gets. But it's a good thing! Phoenix Wright has finally returned to it's former glory and man was it long overdue. The digital only release is kind of a bummer but that is no reason to skip out on what is the best PW game since Trials and Tribulations.
Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA ƒ (PS3) - 20 Points
I wasn't quite sure there could be another recent music game I'd like as much as Theatrhythm but this is definitely it. They did an amazing job picking out a ton of quality Vocaloid tracks with a wide variety of genres and styles. Luka kind of got the short end of the stick compared to the rest of the cast, but overall it's a pretty solid title on all fronts. The sequel needs to hurry the hell up and come out already.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
