Of course. The taller you are (well, the more you weigh), the more calories your body burns just to maintain its normal state.

If you don't want to lose your muscle, don't eat less. You'll start losing the muscle before the fat. Just do more cardio; run for twenty minutes in the mornings, or something like that. Then again, specifics depend on how large your ''tummy'' is.
