Shamrock shakes

I remember growing up in NJ, every March McDonald's would come out with Shamrock Shakes for St. Patrick's Day. They were mint flavored milk shakes and I loved them. Lately, though they are almost impossible to find. They still have radio advertisements for them every March, but I have yet to find a McDonald's that actually has them.

Last weekend I went to my local McDonald's after hearing the radio advetrisement and was told that they don't carry them. It was funny because everyone in line asked for a Shamrock shake. I wonder why no one carries them, since it seems that everyone wants one.

Does anyone live in an area that has Shamrock shakes? I read on the 'net that they seem to be only available in Ireland now.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

OMG.
I haven't thought about Shamrock Shakes in so long...seriously...since my grandpa would take me for them when I was like, 7 years old. I had completely forgotten about their existence!

Now I want one too.

Plenty of 'em up here in Chicago! I'm a Shamrock Shake nut, go through about 3 a week. Almost replaced my afternoon coffee spot completely last year... =P

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

We have Shamrock Shakes at my local McDonald's, just north of Buffalo, NY, here. I purchased one this past Thursday. There's a strong Irish constituency in my town and it'd be sacrilege to take away our Shamrock Shakes.

The McDonald's doesn't advertise them; there's no signs up or anything. But for the two weeks prior to St. Patrick's Day, if you ask, they have them.

I've been drinking them for years, and they're really one of the only reasons I ever go to McDonald's (the $1 Hot & Spicy McChicken is the other). Shamrock Shakes used to be a reward for good behavior when I was young and I still treat it like a reward for working all day in March.

What gets me is that I'm not 100% sure what a Shamrock Shake tastes like. It's sorta minty, but not. It's sorta like pistachio, but not. I guess if I had to describe the flavor of a Shamrock Shake to someone who'd never tried one, I'd describe the flavor as "green". I think that if green had a distinct flavor, that's what it would be: a Shamrock Shake.

It's kinda like how the food industry hit the nail on the head with "oranges". There's just no better way to describe those things.

What?! Don't tell me Lime-green JELLO doesn't taste GREEN enough to you? Or those green flat-candy Popsicles the doctor's offices had when you were a little kid?

Just teasing, btw.

No, I haven't seen a Shamrock Shake around here in Los Angeles. I guess I'll have to go on a hunt for one now.

Yea, out here west of Boston, we totally have the shamrock shakes. That could be because almost every house in this goddamned state has something GREEN pinned to their doors at this time of year.

We also have green beer served on St. Patty's Day. I sometimes make corned beef and potatoes with green food coloring. It's kind of repulsive to actually look at what you're eating at that point. BUT ITS DELISH~

I've boycotted most fast food places, so I'm unsure if my city carries them...

I do know they have them in Rapid City, SD where my friends lives, as she just told me about one. I had never heard of them until a few minutes ago.

They sound awful..

hmm...i don't think vancouver (bc) has 'em. how unfortunate for us. but i've thought of something that you could probably do to make up for it.
make a thick vanilla milkshake, add some peppermint extract to it. OR make the thick vanilla shake in your blender and blend in some chocolatey-mint oreos/cookies in there. yummy!

umm..just to let you know, that's just an idea. i haven't personally tried it...yet.

There's a local place in my city that has these available all summer (it's only open seasonally). Can't say I'm a big fan, but they're not bad.

I've honestly never tried one either. I've heard of them before, but never had the chance to try it.

I'm more of a Cookies and Cream person, but I'll work with mint also.

Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream + crushed Oreos = goodness.

Yesterday, I went to Coldstone's and got a Mint ice cream mixed with brownies and oreos, and it was muy bien.

I'd love the sound of them if I didn't already know that you can eat milkshakes from MacDonalds >.>; Then again, if we're talking Irish, the same can apply to a pint of Guinness too.

However, the Starbucks (limited edition) Mint Chocolate frappucino was always gorgeous. Unfortunately they didn't want to revive the idea.
