Weird hard drive and power problem.
A friends computers old hard drive went wonky, so I installed another hard drive (not new, mind you) and was going to install WinXP and all that good stuff. But for some odd reason, if the power cable is plugged into the hard drive, the computer will not power up. It's a pretty old computer, so maybe I thought the power supply was going as well so I unplugged other devices and just tried to power the computer with the hard drive plugged in; still nothing. I also plugged every other device but the hard drive and everything powered up just fine.
What can be causing this problem? I'm almost sure the jumper settings have nothing to do with it. Can this hard drive be done as well? Any help would be appreciated since my friend's family is in need of a computer.
Thanks!
Jam it back in, in the dark.
