Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Film

I was thinking earlier that its all gone a bit quiet on the Harry Potter front recently, so I started digging for some info on the new film. Found some production stills and they have cast Professor Umbridge! She will be played by the talented Imelda Staunton.

They have also picked the girl to play Luna Lovegood too, she is an unknown actress called Evanna Lynch. Both are very nice casting choices, and Umbridge has that look in her eyes that makes you instantly dislike her. Im sure Staunton will do the role proud.

Here are the production stills:

Professor Umbridge sitting in her Office (Sickening I know)

Umbridge and Mconagall

What I believe to be a shot of Dumbledore's Army (Defense Assosciation) standing in the Room of Requirement

Luna "Loony" Lovegood in action

Harry in what looks like the bit at the beginning during "Dudley Demented".

Enjoy the pictures and please discuss your opinions and thoughts on the new film, and any other media you can find would be nice too. Im really looking forward to this film as we finally see Harry coming into his own, and the whole story is alot more grown up. If anyone has a link to a teaser or a trailer, that would be awesome.

While Order of the Phoenix wasn't my favorite Harry Potter book, Professor Umbridge still remains as one of the few characters in fictional literature that I completely and utterly DESPISE. She is just a totally reprehensible and irredeemable character that you can't help but hate.

Having said that - she doesn't look quite like how I imagined her (i.e ugly, bitter hateful old shrew of a woman in nose pinching glasses ^_^). But that frilly pink froo froo nonsense that they call an outfit is just enough to already get under my skin so we'll see....

I'm not familiar with Imelda Staunton at all but I figure that if she can channel Umbridge correctly then they'll have the perfect villianess on thier hands.

Luna Lovegood I pictured as being a bit daffier in looks also, but they NAILED my vision of (what I'm assuming) is Professor Trelawney. She looks like a straight up cuckoo bird.

Judging by that last shot - Daniel Radcliffe is looking a lot older too, which I guess kind of fits since Harry starts to show his age around book 5.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Umbridge is suppose to be a hyopcrite type of character, the pink crap she has in her office and clothes shows that she pretends to be some nice old lady, when she's just a bitchy nazi who wants everyone to think like her. Shes techincally on the good side, and yet we all hate heras much as we hate Voldy. I'm sure the actress will do whatever she can to make us hate her. Just hope that kids won't throw things at the actress when shes walking down on a street or something after the movie plays. :P

Imelda Staunton has played mostly nice old ladies (though I think one role was she was convicted of a crime, murder I think) and its a nice person herself, but so was Rachal McAdams and she was bitch in Mean Girls. Since shes one of those actresses who win awards and such, acting as Umbridge will be a piece of cake.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I am interested to see this movie. I have never been into Harry Potter, but I hear this movie is going to be darker than all the rest so far. I saw some of the third Harry Potter and enjoyed the bits I watched. This one might tickle my fancy enough to see the whole thing.

It will. Without spoiling anything for you I remember HP 5 causing a bit of an uproar when it came out due to events surrounding two of the characters and Harry's subtle personality changes (ie getting older, grumpier, and more teenagery in a sense). Plus as I'm sure you've already heard Prof. Umbridge is one of the most notorious characters in the series for having only had a major role in one book so there you go.

Umbridge is definitely the Algus of the Harry Potter series as far as hateability goes.

The woman who plays Umbridge has acted in many Shakespearian plays. Shakespearian actors tend to know their stuff so I'm comfident that she'll portray the character well.

Umbridge looks strange... I thought she would be darker. Her office could have been rita skeeter's .

Wonder if we'll see hagrid's half brother

Umbridge looks like a real bitch, although I wish she was fatter and looked a little bit more like she doesn in those hilarious drawings at the beginning of the chapters. She's not quite frog like enough, but I'm sure she'll be awesomely funny.

Another thing I'm glad of is that Harry and Ron and his bros finally got rid of those mop top Ziggy Stardust haircuts. Harry looks pretty punk rock in that group shot.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Hmm... not bad. Luna could look a little more... "exaggerated" with her daffiness, and Umbridge, at first look, was a little off, but looking back at her... she's actually pretty good. Glasses for the both of them would make them perfect.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Did you watch the third film? You do know that Trelawny was already featured in that on, right?

Also, I don't know how I feel about Luna Lovegood, she doesn't seem to look wacky enough to be Luna. I suppose her portrayl could change my mind, but the look doesn't seem right. At least she is wearing turnip earrings. That's a step in the right direction.

Also, there is no teaser trailer yet. The first teaser is set to be released on Nov. 17th with the movie Happy Feet.

Grawp has been cast in the film and is going to be played by Tony Maudsley. I assume that they are going to recreate the movements on screen with Grawp's features and body being superimposed via special effects. Similar to what they did with Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies.

How ya doing, buddy?

Ya Emma Thompson did an amazing job of Professor Trelawney. I have yet to see her fail at a role. I have seen her play Nanny McPhee and she did that very well too.

Luna looks ok to me, admittedly not as loony as I would have expected but its all in the portrayal of the role. Fingers crossed that it will be as good as it could be.

And thanks for the release date on the teaser, im excited now ^^

What happened with these movies coming out around Thanksgiving? It was sort of a tradition in my family to go see them on opening night and it was always around Thanksgiving. I'm disappointed. =(

Also, I agree that Luna should look loonier, but maybe the director decided that her looniness should be in her actions, not her eyes. It'll be interesting to see what she makes of the role.

This film makes me nervous, being the longest book. I'm afraid they're going cut everything out of it that makes it such a great book and then I'm going to hate it, much as I did with Goblet of Fire. Everything that wasn't part of the tournament was cut and you couldn't really connect with the world.

Same with Prisoner of Azkaban. There were too many things that were essential to the plot that were left out or not elaborated on and it makes me sad as a huge fan of the books.

I wish they would make directors cuts with lengths that they deserve.

I remember reading some interview a while back somewhere and they were talking how they cut out Ron's "Ron is King" scene for time constraints, which made a few people not really happy.

Just as long as Fred and George's role doesn't get cut out too bad, since I enjoyed their "prank" more than most of the book, sadly.

It was said on Mugglecast that there have been no scenes filmed with Ron on a broomstick and that it was likely that there would be no quidditch in the fifth film at all. Which I think kind of stinks. I always liked the interruption of the normal storyline with a little bit of quidditch. It adds another dimension to the world that we're missing out on. But yeah, the movie can't be four hours long.

Also, from this picture, i think that Fred and George's leaving won't be left out. From what I can tell, that looks like some kind of explosions (caused by fireworks?) outside of the great hall. I don't remember any other explosions in that book.
