3D Chalk Drawings
These are chalk drawings from Julian Beever. They are amazing! Seriously, it's chalk!! Julian Beever is an English artist who's famous for his art on the pavement of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium. Beever gives his drawings an amazing 3D illusion. I just wish I could see these in person.
![]() ![]() People are actually avoiding walking into the "hole" ![]() ![]() Remember, both his feet in reality are flat on the pavement ![]() ![]() Make Poverty History drawing from the side(40 ft long) ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Wow. Those are awesome pics. I find the last one to be especially impressive!
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Yeah I saw those pictures before. Hmm... I'm guessing you would have to be looking at them from a certain angle for the illusion to work right?
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Holy crap, that's amazing. I want to assume this isn't your basic sidewalk chalking... Is there an amazing link for how this stuff was done, or at least what was used?
It'd be amazing to make art like this for those sidewalk chalkings people on college campuses do to announce events. It would be ridiculous if I actually saw that here. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
There's lots of those around on the internet, some even more impressive. They're frigen awesome too. I've only seen one though where it showed what it looks like if you're not at the proper angle. My one teach showed it to the class....i'm syre you ould find it if you searched. Anyways, those are amazing works of art.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
Other exemples...
Yeah! I know the chalk drawings of this man. It is very amazing!
I dont know how he does that but it's really good! Enjoy! What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Those pictures are awesome. I need to take drawing lessons from him!
FELIPE NO |
Its neat to see the pseudo 3-d effect made by perspective
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
That's me in the avatar.
|
I've seen the guy before too. I do wonder just how he gets the perspective so perfect, but I bet there's some cunning technique he uses such as projecting lines onto the ground or something.

I've seen most of those pictures before, but not the last one. That's the most impressive one.

Masamune_3, you say that's you running along the wall in the avatar? Perhaps, I should try doing that. I'm still at the stage of my life when I believe I can do just about anything!
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Wow, that last piece really did jump out. Talk about being resourceful =o.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Look at the shadows on the first one. Almost looks real the way it dips down.

Wow, those pictures are mad cool. It took me a while to see in the Batman picture that he wasn't actually off the ground at all.
How ya doing, buddy? |
These pictures are absolutely amazing. If I was someone walking by I probably would have avoided falling into the "hole" too. Even seeing them from my computer had me fooled.
FELIPE NO |
I was fooled beyond belief, I mean honestly... this guy is amazing... I have to go take a fifth look at these.... I think the only one that didnt fool me was when he drew himself, & the world on the sidewalk. but other than that... the rest of them look like there really off the avement!
How ya doing, buddy?

He's got alot of talent. Those are just amazing, I wonder if he can go up anywhere to draw those.
That giant coke bottle is so convincing. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Cool, love that pool one. Are there any hi res photos?
Most amazing jew boots |
Holy wow! They're awesome! I can't believe how genuinely 3-D they look. That would be awesome to have stuff like that in my area.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
The coke one is absolutely amazing.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? Vibrate
|
those are some awesome pictures. I wonder how much time and how many drawings it took to get that down right.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
They certainly are impressive. I've always been a fan of trompe l'oiel, which is the style of drawing being used here. It literally means "tricks the eye".
The only trouble, as far as I can tell, is that the effectiveness of the work depends entirely upon the angle and direction from which it's viewed. Where, from one direction, it would appear that you're on the brink of a lava pit, it may very well be totally out of perspective when approached from the opposited direction. You'd expect to see inside edges that simply aren't there. However, I am still envious of this man's talent. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Wow. Is it possible to have my desktop with something like that?
How ya doing, buddy? |
I saw some of those quite a while ago, the batman one and the puddle one in the beginning are new to me. Very impressive.
Reminds of this art installation I saw on a website that involved painting rather odd shapes on the wall that resolved into geometric figures that pop out of the background if viewed correctly. I'll attach the pictures. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Does he get paid, or do people tip him?
But with talent like that, I guess all his other forms of art, maybe paintings or whatever pay his bills, yea, and this is all for fun? Jam it back in, in the dark. |
