Compatibility issues?

My motherboard is a PA1 MVP and is compatible with a Pentium 4 and Pentium DC but i was wondering if anyone thinks it would be worth the cash and time to try an E4600 on it? Or maybe an E4700? At the moment I'm using a celeron D 356 and I want something that is a LOT faster! (even though thats pretty much anything.)

Additional Spam:
They are both 800 MHz instead of my max 1066 MHz cause I want to and can increase both the fsb and the multipliyer. Just to clear up why i don't want anything higher than those.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

It's an LGA 775, yes it will support core 2 duos. just make sure you also get adequate cooling or you will see fireworks.

Depending on your other system specs I would go something even faster, like an e8400. of course, if your video card is shit and you've got 512mb of system ram don't bother.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Got an E4700, tried it, and system wouldn't even boot . Even tried it without heatsink cause the system didn't "sound" right and and the CPU was lukewarm at best! Oh well, ill get a refund and purchase a Pentium D 950 so I can at least get a little speed for my games. Does anyone think it would be worth trying crossfire with a 950 (2 HD3650's?)

How ya doing, buddy?

First review on newegg:
"Cons: First board I got was DOA. Drove me nuts because I didnt know if it was the board or the processor. I guessed and it was the board. Anything bigger than an nvidia 8600 WILL NOT FIT. I verified this with ECS as they tested it. As many features as this board has is overshadowed by the poor layout of the ide and sata channels. Anything bigger than an 8600 will block and or not seat correctly on the board. Forget about and ATI 3800 cards as well. I was VERY disappointed as I was going to get a 3870 card. This board only would see 2.5 gig with 4 gigs installed."

In description:
CPU Socket Type LGA 775
CPU Type Pentium D / Pentium 4 HT / Celeron D

Meaning your E4700 is not supported. Basically, you're going to need to upgrade your mobo before you upgrade anything else.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?
