I don't know about you guys, but I was fine with FFXII's and the PS1 era of FF's. Yeah linear but I guess it worked for me. I did like exploring in XII, however each game pretty much has a direct path anyways.
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I highly doubt the format LO and BD were pressed on determined their overall design as much (if at all) as plenty of other factors did. They were fucking JRPGs following a very traditional formula. I wouldn't go so far as to say being on DVDs changed the design doc there all that much.
Edit: You know what, fuck it. Argument for this is silly. Other statement removed. I was speaking idiomatically. |
*sigh* because you never actually know when the damn companies are going to change their damn mind, Honestly, before today did you even consider FFXIII to be in xbox. Sure you can predict some exclusive square games for xbox but an actual final fantasy after it's been hyped so much for ps3. Or what about the tech demo for FFVI that they had years ago for N64, didn't anyone think that at that time square would stick with nintendo. Lets go back to olden times and make pretend that things back then work as they do now. You get a sega genesis because you love that blue hedgehog over the fat plumber. Sonic is sega's mascot so of course it'll stay exclusive to genesis. But guess what, they change their mind and decide to spread the love of sonic throughout all consoles, which is brilliant financially, but not fair to the people who were told and assumed that it would stay exclusively to sega. Sure both consoles get the same game but we all buy one specific console because the selling point are the exclusives, not the damn interface. If that was the case there should be one super console to play all games and then there would be no competition on hardware, only software.
You make it sound as if ps3 owners should regret their decision, which I don't. There are still exclusives for the ps3 and both consoles carry a majority of the same games. A lot of the exclusives for the xbox I can easily get for the PC, so I'm not regretting my ps3, I'm just disappointed in the things that sony is losing thus far. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() New Record! |
Not much to say, well... I hope that the ps3 release doesn't end limited in any way because of a planned 360 version. (The ps3 first, 360 port sounds promising, but...)
And of course, my inner sony fanboy has something to say: *Warning completely retarded/poorly written/not necessarily in English and probably offending comment ahead* Spoiler:

You paid at least $400 for the theoretical idea that some companies would behave in a fashion both historically unlikely and economically absurd — for your specific benefit, since you paid out the ass for the theoretical right to be the guy who gets to play Final Fantasy. And now, you are disappointed. And perhaps you should be disappointed. In yourself. Sony made the decision long ago not to maintain any significant internal IP. Even at the launch of the PS1, all they had was third-party, third-party, third-party. And here we are at the astonishing discovery that, gee whiz, the thing about third-party developers? They fuckin' wander off! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() |

Maybe if S-E would let go of the Sega CD and realize games don't need to be loaded with eighty thousand hours of cringe-worthy FMV rendered at ninety seven 90210p 16:913 gigaflops that consume 99% of the disc space, they could make a Final Fantasy game that'd let you explore areas not crucial to the story.
You know, like every other RPG since the early 90's. Including previous Final Fantasy's! Technology! There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Well, you know, I've never minded a linear RPG if the story is well worth it.
Wait. We're talking about the series that brought us two characters forcing themselves to laugh, and that was only BARELY the worst scene in the game. We're doomed. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I'd trade some freedom in for a more sensible story.
FFXII: WHAT DO YOU MEAN WE'RE NOT ENEMIES, WE THINK THE SAME THING? OH BUT I ALREADY TRANSFORMED WE HAVE TO FIGHT. ALSO SOMETHING ABOUT THINGS THAT LIVE IN A CRYSTAL OR MIGHT NOT AND POSSESSION. oh ok edit: also the chimpanzee masturbation subplot was grating edit 2x: why the fuck would somebody try so hard to protect their rights to a jacking off monkey picture that they'd copyright it? I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
So wait they are releasing the PS3 version in Japan then a year later the PS3/Xbox 360 version will finally make it to the US? So more massive delays thanks to this announcement. Niiiice.
I take it back. Fuck you Microsoft. I was speaking idiomatically.

Also there seems to be a buzz on that there 2ch site that some SE developers left over this decision and thats why the FFXIII Versus team was pulled onto the project. There can't be any truth to this.

I'm quite happy with this decision. All I need now is for Nippon Ichi to announce that they'll be bringing Disgaea 3 either to the 360 or the Wii and I won't have any reason to get a PS3. I rather like the idea of not having to have every system for a generation to get all the games I want.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
As for NIS. They also took the first step to go onto the Wii. DS, their rendition of the first Disgaea is probably the start of really good things for Nintendo. Which the DS version is based on the PSP renditon; Afternoon of Darkness

From what I heard, the Japanese will get the PS3 FF XIII first, like they always have with every FF game. Then the game gets localised for the US/EU PS3 release, and THEN the 360 version is ported/developed.
In other words is the same deal we had with every FF or KH game, except by waiting a bit longer, US/EU people who only own a 360 can eventually get FF13 later without resorting to buy a PS3. When I first heard the news I thought April Fool's day came early ( or late? ), but I am glad to see that Square realised the 360 is more successful so far in those regions. MGS4 made a boost in the PS3 sales, but I doubt its gigantic enough for Square to risk losing good profit if they didn't port the game to the 360. And it means more people can play this game without resorting to get a PS3, JUST for one or two games they want. Especially since Sony is not budging when it comes to more price cuts. Pity that Versus is still exclusive to PS3, but I already got the console so it's not a big deal for me... But I know there will be people who so far still only own a 360 may get a little annoyed at that. Now that FF XIII is on the 360 list, it looks like the 360 so far is the RPG console. Mistwalker games, Tri Ace games, Tales of Vesperia and now Square's biggest title has hopped on board. Meaning I need to get a 360 of my own soon. Been playing my sister's Australian 360 for the past years. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() { :: ~ Air - the 1000th Summer ~ :: } :: That sea went on forever, into the blue distance :: * That road went on forever, continuing straight ahead * ~ : Summer comes again, shining silver : ~ : When I close my eyes, suddenly I can see that day's blue sky :

While this is big news Musharraf, its still doesn't overshadow the fact that there has been no new gameplay footage since the announcement of this title. And all the "new" footage we see in this trailer has already been played in front of JP fans monthes ago in one of Square's exclusive closed theaters in their events. While this is surprising and very welcoming news, I want to know how far they are in development of the actual game for the past 2 friggin years, not just pretty FMVs. When Blizzard announced Diablo 3, they had a 19 min uninteruppted gameplay footage ready to be viewed by the masses, reminding people that these are GAMES, not just a collection of pretty cinematics.
(Not that I don't appreciate pretty FMVs, as people may have noticed my new Avvie and Sig.) And I get that it can be annoying to buy a PS3 just so you can get MGS4 and FFXIII, only to have one of them go multi on you. But there's no need for that much anger at Microsoft or Square when they have opened the doors for others to play FF too. Not to mention if you jumped the gun and bought the PS3 at launch assuming that FFXIII is always gonna be exclusive, well, its really your own fault for getting the system that early and not have a wait and see approach, and of course, miss out on the first price drop, which any consumer knows it will happen in time. Don't get a system untill the game you REALLY want is actually out. MY PS3 was bought on the same day MGS4 came out, which netted me a better price due to it being 2nd hand and some other discounts here and there. All this hostility and the constant console wars is annoying. So far all exclusitivity has done for people is to make everyone declare war on one another and force people who don't have the cash to buy several system so they can play all their favourite titles. This in my opinion, is a step in the right direction for the industry. The PS3 version is still gonna come out first, and any delays will be Square's fault and not Microsoft's, since the 360 version won't be developed till the PS3 US/EU version is done. Dammit Microsoft. Though in retrospect, Square always took forever to localise their games that the delay probably won't even be noticable. I wouldn't be surprise that by the time most of the porting is done, the localisation, be it translations or voice work, probably still won't be finished. And Forever Fantasy reports that its unlikely EU will have FF13 the same day as NA since there are other languages they need to translate. http://www.forever-fantasy.net/modul...ticle&sid=1260 Also someone in an older post while I was checking for links claims that FFXIII is a Nomura game, which is not true. The Nomura directed game is Versus 13, which is still PS3 exclusive. Just because the man designed the characters doesn't mean its his game, the same way that Code Geass is not a CLAMP story just cause they did the character designs. If FFXIII ends up sucking as a game and the story, blame it on Motomu Toriyama who is directing and writing. And another thing, what's wrong with multi disks? I remember in the old days of PS1, we got 4 disks for FF8 and 9. Unless it ends up making the game costs alot more expensive, which I doubt it, theres no need to be so against the idea. I can't believe anyone has much to complain about on this (non-)issue of FFXIII heading to the 360 in the west. If you have a PS3 and bought it for FFXIII, you're still getting the game, and it's still being made with your console in mind as the lead platform. If you don't have a PS3 and do have a 360, excellent, you now get the chance to buy this game when it arrives.
I've never understood platform fanboyism. I get being a fan of Square Enix, as I am rather partial to the company's games myself (though would stop far short of fanboy in a description), so surely any fans want to see Squenix do well and make money so they can continue making games that you want to play? No, is just me that finds that logical? Also, there's so few details out about this game, it could turn out to be a big stinking pile of shit in the end. FELIPE NO |
While this is a little random and slight off topic, I just remembered another PS3 exclusive RPG that is NOT Versus 13 and like all FF13s, didn't have any news for ages.
White Knight Chronicles. And that seems to be it when it comes to PS3 exclusive RPGs, unless someone can name more? What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? ![]() { :: ~ Air - the 1000th Summer ~ :: } :: That sea went on forever, into the blue distance :: * That road went on forever, continuing straight ahead * ~ : Summer comes again, shining silver : ~ : When I close my eyes, suddenly I can see that day's blue sky : |
Pretty much what Kairi said, though, if you bought the PS3 expecting games like GTA IV or FFXIII to be exclusive, that's bad luck, I guess. Most amazing jew boots |
I'm sorry buy Microsoft pisses me off. They fucking monopolize everything they get involved with. computers.....now video games, and looking at video rentals next. If I wasn't fed up with Microsoft enough, now they are trying to dominate the video rental business by getting deals with netflix playing movies straight to the xbox!!!
I knew Microsoft was going to pull something like this. At first I thought metal gear solid 4, but realized they had a contract with sony. So whats the ps3's other exclusive title? "oh, lets take that then", Final Fantasy 13 All ps3 has going for it is metal gear solid and blu-ray (gran turismo as well...but eh). Sony is fucked. and square enix, fuck them too. In the early 90's they sided with the wining team, and now again in 2008. This goes to show you what business', and deeper down, PEOPLE in general care about. /endrant This is fabulous news for us though, as consumers, as most of us own an xbox. the only people losing out here is sony. but why should we care? we are just selfish monkeys. /win There's nowhere I can't reach. |
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
