The Bourne Trilogy (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum)

Please put anything plot related to Ultimatum in SPOILER TAGS PLEASE.

Ultimatum is releasing August 3rd and I am eagerly anticipating seeing it. The two previous were phenomenal pieces of action thrillers. Probably the best in whatever category you want to place it in. Damon does wonders even when you think he wouldn't.

Not to mention Powell has some terrific scores throughout the movies. Cinematography, choreography for the fight scenes, and the chase sequences have all been top-notch so far.

I thought about whether I liked Identity or Supremacy more, but really can't decide in favor of either or. Both have their strengths.

You can talk books here too I guess.

Comparing the two that are currently out, I'd have to give Identity the nod as the superior film, just because they're both very similar, but Identity came first. So it did everything right, first.

I'm definitely going to see Ultimatum when it drops. I think I ought to pick up the DVDs of the other two and play a refresher round of catchup to get back in the swing of things and get stuff fresh in my mind.

Better yet, wait for the 'Trilogy' and just download/rent the first two. Ehh its what I would do.

I agree about seeing the first two again though, there's a LOT that you can miss if you don't pay attention.

I'll certainly be seeing it one way or another, be it in theaters or downloaded or buy the DVD 3-pack.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Most people seem to be leaning towards Supremacy, based on the film's direction. I just bought Identity on HD-DVD (fantastic sounding at reference level), and although the pacing and action was great, the plot did seem a bit hollow.

I honestly don't remember anything about Supremacy though, other than the fact that Karl Urban crashes stuff.

I personally prefer Identity because it was a great mix of solemn and Doug Lyman cool. Franka Potente was a large plus. At the time it also came out of nowhere and there's wasn't much like it.

Supremacy was an excellent film though, but Greengrass' style is much colder and bleaker, so it's a bit unfair to compare the two since they're different. Greengrass' take is probably more true Bourne. Ultimatum will most certainly be great, the trailer looked kickass.

And the Bourne Conspiracy game looked awful. So depressingly generic it made me cringe.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Ultimatum is indeed fantastic =D As a huuuuge fan of the series, I approve of how it is handled.

But for the fifth or sixth movie in a row, I've been bugged INCREDIBLY by people sitting nearby. I swear to fucking god that I am tempted to download movies from now on, since there are far too many douchebags in the world that populate theaters.

I watched it and enjoyed it thoroughly. I was concerned wathcing it at 10:30 at night, having gone to bed the last few days BEFORE then would mean I'd be half-asleep throughout the movie, but it was good to the point I wanted to keep on it. Good movie indeed.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Identity was more of a smaller plot, it was more "personal." Supremacy blew the story wide open to encompass more of the CIA and intel infrastructure. Ultimatum was great, but I felt that it was even less personal than Supremacy. Good fight/chase scenes, good action. However, I feel that the trailers gave too many of the really good parts away.

Bourne (the character) runs like clockwork, so much so that things that would normally seem amazing in other films tend to become commonplace in the Bourne series. If only the real CIA was as competent as it's portrayed in these films...

How ya doing, buddy?

Ultimatum was indeed quite good, a pleasant surprise really. I was impressed at many points throughout: the lack of spoon-feeding (given the many opportunities a lesser director would've jammed down your throat, "silent (sans dialogue)" sequences, action sequences as musical numbers, long takes, editing, poetry (Nicky's haircut mirror scene, the final shot).

You'd think though after a century of filmmaking they'd figure out how to make flashbacks more presentable than green filters + blur effect + echo-ey voices. Minor quip, along with Cooper + Cox did more with their white-collar government baddies than Strathairn (the guy is normally superb).

The more I reminisce the more I'm impressed with it more than I'd like to admit, I think. Based strictly on editing, the extent to which it uses the Kuleshov effect to maximum effect is nothing sort of a triumph.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I actually thought this was easily the worst of the three. Not that it was bad, it was a good movie, but it doesn't compare. Its like I seen everything that happened in Ult already.

Just saw this, and was glad to see it was as good as the first two. I liked how the plot took up right where Supremacy left off (kind of put into the context the last scene of that movie), and how the continuity between the three films tied together. All of the action scenes were great, and one in particular was really tense. However the car chases weren't nearly as good as Identity (Paris chase) or Supremacy (Russian taxi chase). All in all, it was at the same level as Supremacy, in fact it played out almost like an extension of the previous film. I'm not sure if there was another book written in this series, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing one more in this series.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I saw 'Ultimatum' today. Just as good as the first two. Julia Stiles was actually given something to do. She did nothing in the first one except to stand/sit around looking pretty. She had a do-nothing cameo in the second movie. They finally gave her some substance. There are two newer books in the series written by Eric Van Lustbader: 'The Bourne Legacy' and 'The Bourne Betrayal'.

Just saw it, really enjoyed it. A nice trilogy. I remember hearing something about them not know what'd they do to make a 4th though, simply because they've deviated so much from the books or something to that extent.
