Wisdom Teeth!
Sooo... One of the things I did while in Bangkok was getting my wisdom teeth pulled out - I was supposed to have it done years ago when I was still in middle school - but I was a little shit back then, and ripped up the DDS' referral, so the maxiofacial surgeon couldn't do the procedure.... Well, things had changed since then, and they were really starting to bother me, so we went to the dentist and got another referral to have them removed the next day... Unfortunatly, they wern't able to do it under general anesthetic like I had hoped (not enough time to meet with the anethesiologist and such), so I just had it locally frozen, and all four yanked out in the matter of an hour... Not the nicest thing in the world, especially since the freezing wasn't the greatest - but it got done, and now i've got four holes in my mouth. The teeth were little bastards too - 3/4 of them had curved roots (2 were curved 90deg, the 3rd was almost a full 180) - at least i was allowed to keep them though... maybe I can use them to kidnap the toothfairy and take all of her money. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHA
Anyways, I just wanted to know who on GFF has thier wisdom teeth, and who doesn't... and for those who dont - how they were yanked out. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I had mine removed years ago. Apparently they were only supposed to take 3 out, since the 4th one was apparently growing fine, but when I went to the dentist later, the x-rays shows no trace of the 4th one. HMMMM...
Anyway, I just had freezing done when mine were pulled out, and it didn't hurt at all, even with the tugging. Maybe I'm just lucky. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Pulled out 2 of mine in May

Thanks to Fjordor for the funny image!

Maybe mine were just bad because on my lower ones, they had to grind away quite a bit of bone (3/4cm between the left and right) to get to the teeth

I've still got mine. Not had any trouble with them either, not yet at least.

I've got mine as well. I'm pretty fortunate that all four of them came in just fine, but I don't even know how long that will last. They ache every once in a while. ;__;

I've heard bad things about getting teeth worked on in Thailand...
I had my wisdom teeth taken out when I had other work done on my teeth. Apparently I had all 4 ready to come out, but they were still under the skin and I already had crowding. So they surgically removed all of them plus my 4 bicuspids. ![]() FELIPE NO |
I've had all four removed over a period of two years, but both sets were removed at different times under different anesthetics. The lowers were taken out when I was only under laughing gas and local anesthetic. Those were the ones that I found hurt the worst afterwards. All I did was sleep, eat, and take Vicodin for three days. My upper ones were removed with local anesthetic and while I was under some stuff that didn't completely knock me out but made me sleep most of the time, though I had a few lucid moments (I can't remember what it was called). I was hoping that I could let my upper wisdom teeth grow in a bit and get rid of the gaps in my upper front teeth, but they had to be removed because of a cyst around one of them.
How ya doing, buddy? |
My dentist thinks I should be able to keep them. So I guess that's pretty alright.

I haven't gotten mine out yet. One of them is coming in fine on the lower left side, but the other three don't really have any signs of coming out yet. I feel something there, but no visible tooth. I know I should be getting them out sooner or later, but i'm not sure when that's gonna happen.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I had mine cut out about 5 years ago and all they had to do in order to knock me out was inject me with some stuff. I was also on some good drugs after I got out of there...but as for the side effects...let's just say I went to the bathroom more than I needed to.

Mine were all half-impacted or something, and my mouth was generally very crowded, even after having four other teeth removed. Actually, getting my wisdoms out was easier than having my others removed. Those teeth were next to my canines--fucking annoying place for bloody gaps! I could barely eat because I had to keep the gauze in place. Not to mention they only came out two at a time, so I had to go through the procedure twice. And the procedure itself was just bizarre--a couple needles in my gums and one in the roof of my mouth, and some 6'8" surgeon digging into my gums and cracking my teeth--all pressure, no pain. I actually like oral pain; I'm Bill Murray in Little Shop of Horrors.
Anyway, my wisdom teeth were a breeze. I little prick in the arm, count backwards...99, 98, 97....zzzz....I woke up on a little bench outside the room. They gave me vicodin which I used for a day then hoarded. There was very little bleeding and virtually no pain. It was probably the smoothest operation anyone could hope for. All of them removed a few years ago. Unfortunately they were all growing in completely horizontal and pushing my teeth together. Obviously it caused quite a bit of pain, so I had to have them removed immediately. Though I was conscious the whole time. Not fun at all and hurt like a bitch for a good three days.

I have had all three of my wisdom pulled out about 2 years ago. But I did the first one a year before the others because it was bothering me like crazy. That one was easy to extract. The other three were frozen like the first one. But it was a biatch to pull. The roots were also curved like yours. Some of them had to be removed separately from the tooth. The process hurt, but not as bad as the aftermath. It took me two weeks to heal.

I had all four of mine taken out somewhere between 4 and 5 years ago. It's the only time I've ever had general anesthesia, and it was a riot. They stuck the needle in my arm and I'm like, "Ok, ow, that hurts. Is that supposed to keep hurting?" and the oral surgeon says "Oh really, it still hurts? Why don't you tell me how much it hurts." And I'm like, "Well, it sorta feels like...wait...ooh, that's nice. I'm just going to go to sleep now."
I woke up after everything was done, lying in a dark room with radio playing on the overhead speakers. I tried to sing along for whatever reason. It was awesome. Never really had any issues with the gaping holes in my mouth, either. Just the typical discomfort and cleaning and such. FELIPE NO |
What exactly is the point of removing wisdom teeth
![]() So far, I've never had to have any tooth removed. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
They're the teeth farthest in the back, and more often than not they cause problems with other teeth or even just with themselves, growing in at angles, pushing all the other teeth around, causing all manner of aches and pains. A choice few don't have any problems with them, and some people never grow them at all, but many people have to have them removed to save themselves unnecessary pain.

I had two of mine removed a little less than a week ago.
I was knocked out, I didn't want to bother watching them tug and show off the teeth they just pulled out. Didn't really hurt until after the numbness wore off from the initial removal, but then you just have to take the medicine. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
My wisdom teeth haven't even grown in yet.

I had mine done back when I was sixteen over the summer holidays. I just wanted locals 'cause I didn't want to waste a whole day of my vacation loopy from being put under. Mine hadn't come through yet, but the way they were angled was gonna screw up my other teeth, so I decided to have 'em yanked as a preventative measure.
Since they hadn't come through the gums, the dentist has to slice them open first, then drill a little hole into the middle of each tooth and then insert this metal rod and jerk it to the side. I remember laying there being pretty amazed that these noises like snapping bone were coming out of my face. After snapping each tooth in half, he'd snap them again into quarters, and then remove them in pieces. Like a good little patient I chomped down on that gauze and they stopped bleeding after an hour or so. They ached a bit when the freezing wore off, but it wasn't too bad. The Tylenol 3 they prescribed me didn't do much so I sold them to some kid I knew who wanted to take them recreationally. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() ![]() |
A couple of years ago, I had three of my wisdom teeth pulled out. The fourth wisdom tooth was nowhere to be found. I had anesthetics injected into my bloodstream, and I passed out in a split second about ten seconds into the injection (well, from my point of view).
I recall my parents saying that I'd need pain killers for the following day because my gums would be extremely sore. However, I was still so drowsy from anesthesia that I slept for a good 24 hours. Boy, was that a relaxing sleep. How ya doing, buddy? |
Don't even have to worry about that shit.
My jaw's large enough, so they've grown in with room to spare. FELIPE NO |
I had all four wisdom teeth removed about four years ago. I requested to be completely asleep, so the only thing I remember was waking up with the lower half of my face numb when the surgery was complete. The bleeding lasted for about a week, and I couldn't really eat anything except liquids.

and I'm sure all of you who got your wisdom teeth removed know what that is... the operation went fine, general anesthesia and I woke up an hour later. The after effects were all but fine. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
