It slows down just like it would if you were playing the game on the original console.
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah, some games would be nice to play on a stable rate, on the other hand games like Street Fighter 2 wouldn't be the sane without the slowdown when connecting with a hit.
How ya doing, buddy? |
I'm having some weird problems with my pointer (on both controllers) in the Wii's main menu screens, also during Wii Play. It's not moving smoothly at all, it'll sort of lag across and twisting the hand icon causes it to leap all over the place. I've tried messing with the sensitivity options, but that doesn't help. The sensor bar's not blocked or anything. I've tried resynching the controller, doesn't do anything. I'm not sitting too close or too far away. There's no super bright lights that could mess up the sensor. It works fine in Zelda, Rayman and Monkey Ball. I have no idea what's up. It was worse yesterday, to the point where I was forced to use the Classic Controller to navigate the menu. I really fucking hope I don't need to return this to Nintendo Australia, I'll probably never see it again. I'll try setting it up in another room tomorrow or something, see if it's still demented.
![]() Aside from my usual drama with Nintendo launch hardware, this is a pretty brilliant piece of TINY. Wii Sports turned out to be a bajillion times more entertaining than I thought, boxing is bloody hilarious in two player. Especially when the victory music kicks in. BOOP BOOP BUP BOOP BOOP. Bowling is the game of nightmares as I keep spinning the ball to the right NO MATTER WHAT and my right handed friend kept spinning it to the left. But it's still fun throwing the ball into another lane. :] Wii Play is extremely simplistic, but this is pretty common knowledge so I've just wasted a sentence! Cow Racing for example, only has the one track. Each of the games is designed to test a different motion, basically. From aiming in Target Shooting (which stars the Duck Hunt ducks every now and then!) to full 3D movement of the controller in Fishing. And although simple, most of the games have good replay value. It's nice to just sit back and play some Laser Hockey or whatever. Ping Pong and Tanks are addictiiiiive. Monkey Ball is honestly, frustrating beyond belief. So many times I'm playing it and just wanting normal control via the joystick. ;_; Most of the mini games are pretty awkward and too complex for their own good, too. Rayman however is gooooold. The boss levels are like Time Crisis/Virtua Cop, very cool stuff. The Rabbids so need their own game next time. I'm loving the Virtual Console. Especially now that it's been discovered that Australia and NZ can simply change their console region to the UK and that'll log on to their Shopping Channel. The points transfer across and everything! So we can get TG-16 games afterall! =) CANNOT WAIT until I track down another points card tomorrow and finally be able to play Bonk's Adventure. GUNSTAR HEROES is also headed to the VC next week (America and PAL regions). And ALIEN CRUUUSH. <3 ![]() Oh yeah there's some game called Zelda. That's been consuming my entire weekend. There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Have you tried a replacement for your sensor bar, Infernal? Maybe a couple of flashlights or something to create a stronger IR signal?

Infernal - I often have jittery pointer problems on the menu but not in games. Does it happen regardless of your distance to the TV? There's no sweet spot or anything?
I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
For some reason, the Wii Menu has a crappier pointer sensitivity than games. I personally found Wii Sports to have the perfect "Nintendo Hand" menu sensitivity.
Hopefully they'll fix the system's controls in a firmware update, because it'll affect the Opera Browser, Photo Channel, and Mii Channel too (all places that I want a smooth cursor). I was speaking idiomatically. |
Everybody who's been playing Wii has been raving about how unbelievably awesome it is. That being said, I've seen pictures of some unfortunate people who have a poor grip on the controller. There's been reports of wiimotes flying into TVs and otherwise damaging the expensive displays. This is mostly because the wrist straps have been breaking. If you haven't seen any of these misshaps, you can check them out here.
Anyway, I have been very impressed by what I've seen of Nintendo for this particular system launch, they've crossed their Ts and dotted their i's. The only unfortunate thing is that there are nerds lining up for every shipment so far so my brothers are content to wait until after the initial hoopla dies down before they purchase one. Being that I have no funds because of school being expensive this year, I have to be content to wait until they get one. At least I'm convinced the wait will be worth it. Also, I played PS3 the other day when chilling with Skills. The graphics are jaw dropping but it is mostly same old same old. I'd pay 200 or 300 dollars for one but definately not the $1,000 it comes to after all the necessary accessories and waranties are purchased. Bottom line, I think people are correct when they say to buy a Wii but wait for the PS3 to bring out some serious titles. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() ![]() |

God I hope more shipments (substantial shipments, not just 3 like my Gamestop got earlier this week -_-) come in before Christmas. I really want it but I don't want my parents to get it from those stupid ass sharks on ebay who are selling it for more than double the price (up to $700 I've heard) or wait in long ass lines. Nintendo really should have made more, how could they have not been prepared?...it's Christmas time for cryin' out loud! Oi...and I've noticed there are no shortage of games for the system, yet the systems themselves are gone...everywhere...lame. Any suggestions as to how I can nab one before Christmas (so that I can have it by Christmas...yeah I'm helping my folks get me this present...lol)? When I called Game Crazy, I asked them if they had any or knew when they'd get some before Christmas. They guy said that they would be getting a new shipment but, get this, their customers who reserved it get priority. I didn't know you could reserve it before the launch date...can you?

Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Yeah Infernal, it's jittery on the main interface for everyone. Really started pissing off my friend because he's a freak like that. Nintendo will hopefully get a firmware update out there to patch that up because it is pretty annoying.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |

Infernal's jitters problem doesn't sound normal to me. Mine works perfectly smoothly, and only acts like infernal's when there is a bright light source next to the TV, and even then it's completely manageable. If you are forced to use the classic controller to navigate the menu, I'm willing to bet something is not right...
![]() I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Oh, it's good to know I'm not alone with this. :] Firmware update plz Nintendo. I'm sorta getting used to it, still horribly annoying though. It still jitters and craps up when I moved the system into the lounge room today, doesn't matter where I stand, so it's gotta be the Wii itself. I rang Nintendo Australia for lol and was told I'd have to pay $60 or something to ship it and wait six to eight weeks for them just to look at it. Great service they have. Fuck that.
In pants expanding news I took advantage of the whole region changing thing to grab TG-16 games. Downloaded Bonk's Adventure and Bomberman '93. SO AWESOME. First time I've ever played anything from the system before. They also had Star Soldier, Dungeon Explorer and Victory Run. Are any of these games worth it guys? =o I was speaking idiomatically. |
I dunno. However, I wish I had more friends, because playing multiplayer in Bomberman is like liquid fun!
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Infernal, have you tried placing the sensor bar above your TV? I've heard this works wonders for some people having problems with jittery controls.
FELIPE NO |
What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah, I've tried that. No changes though. =o After a bit of Google'ing'ing the depths of other (terrible) forums, there's a few others with this same lagging, glitchy pointer issue and it seems it might have been caused from the second firmware update. Because I know mine was working smoothly when I turned it on for the first time. ;_;
I'll just wait it out. The games play fine (except Wii Play), so I'll see if they fix it in the next update which shoooould be December 20th because that's when the weather channel rolls out. Jam it back in, in the dark. |
What was the purpose of the second update, anyway? I got my Wii from a Black Friday shipment, and it only downloaded one update that was supposedly just for the parental controls. I've tried telling it to update again, but it just re-downloads the same one. Did they remove the second update in the US because of the bricking it was causing?
Infernal, your issue sounds like what happened when I got a bigger TV this weekend and had the sensor bar a little too far back (it was blocked by the TV itself when I sat on the couch). I'd say it's an issue with the sensor bar itself, but that's really weird if it's only affecting the main Wii menu. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Then I placed the sensor-bar exactly in front of the TV - alligned perfectly on the front edge of the TV table. Also I moved a bit closer to the TV (about 2,5m from the sensor bar). There hasn't been any issue ever since, even if I move farther away, or the sensor-bar is a little off. Not sure what might have caused it. Maybe it was an update, it will remain a mystery =o This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
![]() Anime lover, gamer, and dreamer |
I think the second update was for some screen burn in reduction or something. =o
Anyway hey, my camera's terrible and Photobucket made it even worse, but this is what it's like trying to navigate the menu. No matter where I stand, where the sensor bar is, or where the Wii itself is in the house. It can either get worse than this or slightly better at random! I was speaking idiomatically. |
I'm thinking it's the Wii remote. It could be faulty, and my guess is it's just skipping full recognition. How ya doing, buddy? |

I'd get a replacement from the store, but I was a stupid cunt and bought VC games which are only linked to the console itself, so I'd lose those and have wasted money on the cards. Duuuunno, duuuunno, the joys of launch hardware. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
