How Profane Are You?

How often/much do you swear?
Do you chose to? Is it habit?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I swear, but Im not someone who gets off on having a filthy mouth like 90% of middle schoolers now days. I use it in context to spice up sentences. Pharses like "You gotta be kidding me," are only made better by inserting the word fuck.

Its something I do around people who dont mind it. Swearing isnt something that should offend in my opinion. Its not like having a smart mouth, or cutting someone down. Its just a word.

I swear a lot, but normally only when I'm angry. I have a very weird form of epilepsy you won't find in any textbooks that kind of intertwines with a mild form of Tourrettes. While the epileptic symptoms I have gotten under control, when I'm angry those two mix a bit and I let out the oddest strings of swearing you have probably ever heard .

In normal speech I don't, unless it's typing.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Normally I don't, the worst that would come out of my mouth on a normal basis are hell and damn. I swear harder when I'm under great stress or angered.

Lately I've been trying to tone down my profanity after 6 weeks of field tripping with some of my geo friends when all of the nasty words were flying around and I couldn't help but join in.

Not so much. I don't normally get very angry to the point that I let out a string of swear words. I'm actually more surprised that some of the younger teenagers have a tendency to swear a lot. At least from what I've heard while at malls.

Depends entirely on the circumstances. But at home I swear sometimes, at work rarely and online often. All put together the swearing from my internet (mis)adventures tilts this into the 'often' tier.

I used to swear pretty often when I was younger before I met my current girlfriend. She believed swearing was a form of disrespect and it has always bothered her when she hears someone swear. Thinking about it I actually agree with her and really worked on toning my swearing down. I'm glad I did as it has also done wonders to improve my professionalism at work.

I've noticed I'm still pretty bad when it comes to typing it online though. Hearing yourself say it and watching yourself type it seem to be two totally different things it would seem.

I think I swear more often online nowadays than off. I guess I can still swear as much these days as ten years ago, but now I have control and know when not to. But yeah, so long as you don´t use it as a crutch to a poor vocabulary, I don´t see it as that big of deal.

I never used to swear. It just didn't really work on me...it worked on other people, but for me to say 'Fuck' only caused shock and/or laughter. But when I went away to college my roommate cussed all the time, so I got in the habit of saying 'fuck this' or 'what the fuck?' quite often.

So now it really depends on who I'm around and where I am. I mean, as soon as I'm at home around my old friends, I revert back to my non-cussing ways. Same deal around my parents, although since I'm an 'adult' my mother says fuck a who~ole lot more than she used to, and my dad always says fuc-freakin. He can't get used to cussing around me .

I was speaking idiomatically.

The problem I find with answering is this is that profanity has different definitions to different groups. For example, my parents consider "hell" and "damn" as curse words to use sparingly and only in serious situations. Freshman year in high school, I was astounded at how many teachers had no problem with using profanity; there was even a priest/monk who probably have the worst swearing problem I've ever seen; meanwhile I saw a student get a detention from another teacher for saying "bitch".

Over the years here in I've seen profanity become a lot less shocking. I remember watching The Shield on FX and not even realizing characters were saying "shit" freely until the show ended. Let's not forget that one SouthPark episode. Supposedly now it's okay to say "fuck" on network TV so much as it's not referring to fornication. (Admittedly I've never heard it said on network TV.) When I was very young, just saying "damn" would pretty much get me slapped, but nowadays my parents wouldn't even flinch if I said it.

So I can't answer the question with a definite answer. All I can say is that I use every word up until "fuck" fairly often, but it depends on the circumstances. It's hard to be less vague without being boringly specific.

I almost never swear in real life or on the Internet, but it seems like everyone my age does. I'm starting to think I need to pick up the habit, lest I seem like some stuck up prude.

Do only what feels natural, if it's awkward to cuss, don't; if it feels fine and feels 'right' go right ahead.
Changing your nature (for the worse) so it'll improve your image, is the worst reason to change yourself. Need I insert a drug use analogy here?

I'm not really offended by swear words, as I use them quite often both in real life and on the internet. I just use them as a regular part of my language, so I don't even think of them as I use them. Of course, if I was in a professional situation, or around someone who I explicitly knew did not like profanity, I wouldn't use these words.

This depends entirely on who I am talking two, where I am, and who I am with. When talking with my family, I never use profane language. The conversations we have call for more constructive use of the language than using profanity to make the point. When I am with my friends, its a bit different. If we are talking about someone I really don't like then I'll let fly with some f-bombs, s-words, and maybe even the big C. But I don't use it in ever sentence.

I too seem to use swear words selectively.

I never swear when I'm angry, but rather use words to emphasize my excitement, and even then only with certain people: eg. "oh shit!"
I used to never swear, but then I surprise my friends every time since I gave up on that and they don't expect that kind of language from me apparently. I'm not the type though, to throw in "fuck" at the end of every single sentence, or "fucking" in mid-sentence, for EVERY sentence like some people.

I will swear at the air when no one is around and I am playing against a "fucking" cheap boss like Jinpachi or Sissy. The same goes for parts in a game that feel almost impossible like lightning dodging.

At any kind of work though, that doesn't even pop into my mind, ever.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I rarely swear when I'm talking in English. Yes, occasionally I do let out a "fuck" or a "shit" but that totally depends on the situation and who I'm talking with. In Malay, however... well... I guess it's summed up by the fact that I greet some people by going "oi <swear word>".

When I talk to myself, though, I tend to swear a lot. When I'm playing a game or practicing guitar I sometimes let out some profanities if I get frustrated.

I've been trying to cut down, and it seems I've succeeded a bit. Although whenever I stub my toe or something I tend to let out some profanities.

My roomate @ college laughed whenever I cussed like how I mentioned earlier, and interestingly enough, that's the best way anyone has ever gotten me to stop, makes me realize the absurdity of it. And it wasn't an extremely obnoxious laugh, it was kind of a quite, smiling laugh that's hard to detect. It's hard to explain, it's like when you are trying to hide laughing because you are afraid the person is going to rip your fucking head off. I've never hurt anybody in my rage (well, since I got my symptoms under control as mentioned earlier) but a lot of things (most frequently my keyboard) have suffered my wrath. I once destroyed my printer with a metal pipe because it pissed me off, lol. That was a funny site to see, I just wish I would have had a way to view it from the outside.

I'd say I'm in the middle of the pack when it comes to using swear words. I'm not afraid to use them, but I do try and actually think first before throwing them out of my mouth.

I've met my share of people who seem compelled to put in at least 1 or 2 "fuck's" in every sentence, and it really sounds ridiculous when you pay attention. Though I love movies like Snatch and Lock Stock, they definitely are certainly a bad influence when it comes to profanity.

Not quite every other word, but I do drop an F-bomb quite frequently. I guess I can attribute it to whoever I am with though. Don't quite swear as much around my Grandparents as I do around my friends.
