Lacking comments this week.

By the way, I'm kinda glad this week was pretty mediocre. The hits couldn't keep coming forever.

(3 points) Seiken Densetu DS - Children of Mana (Game Rip) - Town of Mana: It's safe and traditional and predictable, but whatever. At least it's enjoyable and sweet.

(1 point) JumpingFlash! 2 Original Game Soundtrack - JF1-W6 Distant Cosmos: Brass synths and wacky lead instruments. Sold.

(1 point) Suite Wizardry III - Knight of Diamonds - Boltac's Trading Post III: Quirky, but improves in regards to competition.

(1 point) BORDER DOWN Sound Tracks Vol.2 - Go Ahead (stage 5): It was bleh at first, but improves.

A very average week and an alarming fall of nominations, bad signs.

BORDER DOWN Sound Tracks Vol.2 - Go Ahead (stage 5)
This extremely synthy track is a good one but not a great one. My main complain about this one is its weak and sparse melody. Anyway, I am not a fan of Electro-Pop.

Discworld Noir (Game Rip) - When You Met Her
Well, what I can say... , this song isn't the kind of music than I enjoy, moreover is very short.

Fighter's History Dynamite ~ Flying Power Disc - Data East ~ Gamadelic - DYNAMITE (from Fighter's History Dynamite) (Arrange Version begins)
The first half of this one is quite good, synth-rock done right. But then, a rapper guy ruins all. In conclusion, an inexplicable and awful "singer" destroys the song.

JumpingFlash! 2 Original Game Soundtrack - JF1-W6 Distant Cosmos
It sounds directly extracted from FFX-2. Funky, bouncy and funny with the risk of being too happy. Okay, not the greatest one in the genre but a very worthy one.

onEscapee (Game Rip) - TELEPKE <1 point>
It's clearly done by a American/European composer. The style is cinematic, similar to Tim Burton, and I don't find anything to complain of. Maybe its flaw is the lack of memorability.

Seiken Densetsu DS - Children of Mana (Game Rip) - Town of Mana <2 points>
Whoaa, this track has that retro flavor which I love. Sweetsand nostalgic town themes have always been my weakness and this piece fulfills those conditions. Rpg music can be totally clichè and unoriginal, but this time isn't the case (well a little generic).

Suite Wizardry III - Knight of Diamonds - Boltac's Trading Post III <3 points>
This nomination is my humble tribute to Kentaro Haneda, an excellent composer and better arranger. To be honest, I deliberately nominated one of the most melodic pieces of his repertoire. Boltac's Trading Post III isn't exactly representative of his work in Wizardry, in general much more dark and ambiental. Anyway this piece evokes a quirky and eccentric mood with an unusual instrumentation and all that with a hummable melody.

The New Tetris (Game Rip) - Dvie
No thanks, repetitive techno remixes aren't of my liking.

How ya doing, buddy?

3 points: Seiken Densetsu DS - My nom, which is also currently my favorite RPG town theme ever.
2 points: Fighter's History
1 point: Jumping Flash

Runner Up: Wizardry 3 - Is it just me, or does the intro to this song sound EXACTLY like the bandit's lair song in Defenders of Oasis?

Votes have been changed, I don't know if anyone saw the initial votes, but SDDS/FH/JF is the final spread.

I was speaking idiomatically.

I suggested Matrimelee March (The Final Boss Stage) from New Power Instinct ~Matrimelee~ when I found out, but that's a no-go due to religious reasons.

Only one song good enough this week to pin gold on.

3 points - Suite Wizardry III: Knight of Diamonds - Boltac's Trading Post III
2 points - JumpingFlash! 2 Original Game Soundtrack - JF1-W6 Distant Cosmos
1 point - The New Tetris (Game Rip) - Dvie

BORDER DOWN Sound Tracks Vol.2 - Go Ahead (stage 5)
It was ok to listen to. There was a melody going on, but I didn’t find it exciting. Kind of bleh or just there to have different notes. I don’t know if this track is supposed to be upbeat, but the legato of the leading synth rather drags down the action.

Discworld Noir (Game Rip) - When You Met Her
Very nice, albeit common piano. I can only say that it’s too short and the 0:30 part kind of freaks me out for a moment.
Fighter's History Dynamite ~ Flying Power Disc - Data East ~ Gamadelic - DYNAMITE (from Fighter's History Dynamite) (Arrange Version begins)
Average beginning, the best part started at 0:46 and ended somewhere 1:~~. I didn’t like the talking and rap. It was ok when it blended into the music before, but it pushed away the music later.
JumpingFlash! 2 Original Game Soundtrack - JF1-W6 Distant Cosmos
Some typical motives have been used here. A bit repetitive towards the end, but all in all engaging and never really boring. (1 Point)

onEscapee (Game Rip) – TELEPKE
This track was very successful in creating tension, but it didn’t do anything for me beyond it. It’s too momentary, I suppose.

Seiken Densetsu DS - Children of Mana (Game Rip) - Town of Mana
A well-known kind of track… everything very straightforward and predictable. Still, I guess this is sometimes all what music needs. Good, memorable melody + mellow sounds + light percussion. (2 Points)

Suite Wizardry III - Knight of Diamonds - Boltac's Trading Post III
The two words isdapi used “quirky” and “eccentric” describe this track very well, which is quite a unique mix I think. The excellent sound samples really make the melody shine. (2 Points)
The New Tetris (Game Rip) – Dvie
I don’t mind repetition at all, when the repeated melody doesn’t grow “repetitive” in a negative sense. This track is a good example, cool beats and good progression are the main focus. It’s not excellent but I like it more than some competitors this week. (1 Point)

Lol, I voted like many people, what a surprise. Well, this week wasn’t as good as the few previous ones, but that’s allright.

--- My next nomination ---
Album: Highly Responsive to Prayers Special Kakiden Arrange
Title: Now, die for the debt you have accumulated
Track Number: 11
Year: 1997
Composer: ZUN (Junya Ota)
Info : Music for his first game on the PC-98 with X68000 sound. The arrangement is mostly about better sound quality, but still sounds like Famicon.

3 points :: BORDER DOWN Sound Tracks Vol.2 - Go Ahead (stage 5)
Easily the best track of the week. No contest. Good stuff, though there are other Border Down tracks I would rather see here (e.g. "Snow Fox"). Mark another one up for Yack.

2 points :: Fighter's History Dynamite ~ Flying Power Disc / Data East ~ Gamadelic - DYNAMITE (from Fighter's History Dynamite) (Arrange Version begins)
Why does the beginning sound like "Comona" from Ace Combat 04? Anyway, I liked this track. Synth voice was cool. Melody and instrumentation could have been developed a little further, but still good.

1 point :: Suite Wizardry III: Knight of Diamonds - Boltac's Trading Post III
Best of the rest. I find it forgettable, but it's a pleasant track nonetheless.

"Dvie" was close, as it had an interesting sound, but was repetitive.

No comment on the rest of the stuff. Solid at best, but all very forgettable to me, and I've already listened to the entire group 3+ times. I usually end up with SotW tracks running through my mind at various points in the day, but the only tracks to do that this week were my top two picks. To the victors go the spoils.

Back from a SOTW hiatus, I don't know why, but I just haven't been summoning to energy to do much of anything outside of work as of late. Here is hoping this will turn that around. I also wanted to point out that everything except the top three sounded remarkable similar to me. Not that they were entirely bad, it’s just that none of them really stood out.

3 Points - Fighter's History Dynamite ~ Flying Power Disc - Data East ~ Gamadelic - DYNAMITE (from Fighter's History Dynamite) (Arrange Version begins)

I really liked this upbeat track, which manages to stay relatively interesting the entire length of the track. The rap/synth vocals were also a nice touch and really give the piece a unique flavor. Overall, this is a cut above the rest.

2 Point - The New Tetris (Game Rip) - Dvie

This is a really short Russian style melody repeating over 2:30. None the less, what is here is quite funky and easy to listen to. It does its job as background music for a puzzle game admirably. Now if someone were to take this melody and elaborate on it, the result would be a really cool track.

1 Point - Discworld Noir (Game Rip) - When You Met Her

Normally I would just brush this one aside, but when you consider that everything else is too generic for its own good this is the result. The song is quite pathetic but it sounds like it was written that way. It got a laugh out of me at least, which is always worth something.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Holy

Those results were unexpected. I thought Dynamite had the bag. I hate how my 3 favorite songs(other than Go Ahead) came in 6th, 7th and 8th. Is this some back to the grindstone or what.

Okay, I'm off to read votes.

Stage 5 themes are the best themes. Also, when I first got here, I was going to limit myself to only Yack tunes, but someone already took that spot. He seems to have stopped, so I took over with this and Dandy Lady a couple months back.

I actually prefer Snow Fox over Go Ahead, and I was going to nominate it (Yet another Stage 5 theme) instead, but I thought it was too popular. Now that I think about it, I regret that decision.

Still, Go Ahead has a fantastic melody that goes over too many casual listeners heads

Gah. The computer I had my future nominations list on crashed recently, and I can't quite remember what I had in mind for this week. Oh well. I'll go with something old-school this week; this is one I now was on the list somewhere:

My nom. for week 58:

Album: Batman (Sunsoft version - NES game rip)
Title: Level 1
Track Number: 3 or 4...Iirc, there's the title, opening movie, batmobile scene, then the first level, which would make it 4. Might be one less though.
Year: 1989
Composer: Noboyuki Kun
Source: http://www.mirsoft.info

Note: This is not the "original game audio." It's a rip someone made; I forgot who, though. I don't have the song, since I still don't have my computer back, so the info is lacking. I'll try to find it and then update and upload it.

If someone could help me, that would be great, as my capabilites are not very good with this computer.

Jam it back in, in the dark.
Check out my original music at my Soundcloud page!

Latest music rips (updated January 10, 2012):

SimCity DS - Jazz/ambient/electronic music including interesting reworkings of songs from the fantastic SimCity 3000 soundtrack
Cold Winter Original Game Music Score - Really cool; dark, full, emotional strings mixed with drums, piano, choir. Kind of like Furious Angels?

Play-Asia - Japanese CDs, game soundtracks, game imports, & more
