Rogue Legacy (20 Points)
![]() Perfect platforming with just the right level of difficulty. Challenging without being frustrating, and varied enough in its structure that replaying the same rooms over and over again never becomes monotonous. The Stanley Parable (20 Points) ![]() This is where you can start to see I have this thing for good stories in a game being more important, maybe, than the actual gameplay. There isn't much of a game here, but I loved every moment of it. Papers, Please (20 Points) ![]() The gameplay involves performing the rote tasks assigned to a border post inspector in a fictional communist country. The story and atmosphere and level of detail make this one of my favorites of the year. Fez (10 Points) ![]() Beautifully realized two-dimensional platformer that decided to open things up to a third dimension. Wonderful music and visuals. The Wolf Among Us (10 Points) ![]() As Q said, though only an episode in I'm already in love with the story and atmosphere and visuals and music. Thomas Was Alone (10 Points) ![]() Another of those nominations made on the strength of its atmosphere and storytelling. Saying anything more would take away from how full an experience this little game is. Grand Theft Auto V (10 Points) ![]() The only console game I played this year. It's great, as I'm sure you know, but I thought the story was too short and online play did not entice me to continue playing in the slightest. I will say this was the best GTA since Vice City, possibly ever. Games I have bought but not yet played but for which I am excited by the prospect of: Gone Home, The Walking Dead: Season Two, Dust: An Elysian Tale, Kentucky Route Zero, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons Jam it back in, in the dark.
