And how about the zodiac gems (Aries, Leo, Tauros etc.)? I found a few, but I don't know where. Are these required for a quest or something later on?

Nah, you get double when you get the second quickening and triple when you get the third.
Do you mean that the character's max MP at that moment gets tripled when you unlock the third quickening, or the base MP? (meaning the amount of MP they have with no quickenings at all)

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Is it me or are most of the bosses extremely difficult (compared to the other Final Fantasy's)? Especially the bosses with ailment status attacks.
Not really, just have a Ally:Any -> Esuna(ga) or Ally:Any -> Remedy ready, if you have the proper augment licenses for the effects of remedies, though. Else you'll just have to prioritise the status effects the boss casts and adjust your gambits accordingly. I never had much trouble with bosses, though. Hell, I had more trouble with the 'trash' in the Great Crystal than the boss.

Maybe you're just a bit underleveled or poorly geared?

Also, Q. Why not use a Foe HP >= 70% - Steal for stealing? It might slow down your grinding or farming, but it'll increase your chances to aquire some loot.

Spoiler:
200000 gil in 45 minutes when farming in Feywood with this setup

It gives Uncommon and/or Rare Item drops. But keep in mind that the chain breaks once you:

* Touch a save crystal
* Kill a monster other than the type you're chaining
* Enter a town of some sorts

Also, if you LEAVE all the loot, you'll reach the highest chain level much faster (around 25 kills, I think). Then you can start cashing in those rare items.

Edit: wolf beat me to it.

I was speaking idiomatically.

And there is a story--it's political in nature!
Which is a nice change, in my opinion.

Anyway, I beat the final boss yesterday,

Spoiler:
and although he went down a bit too easily, the ending was satisfying for me. It provided enough closure and didn't really give me the feeling that there was supposed to be more coming. Now to get all the hidden espers and other optional stuff.

Stats really don't differ enough that it matters, though.
I think it will matter for the optional content. Like Leknaat said, Penelo has an higher magick stat than the rest, with Ashe being the closest (only if you're around level 45 or so). That's without any kind of equipment to boost their stats, too. Although I haven't touched much of the optional content yet, I think you'll need those higher stats to beat the hidden espers, and you'll be glad you made them the magick users.

But like I said, I haven't touched any of the optional content yet, so I could be wrong.

To be fair, I beat the entire game without mages. It wasn't hard at all, because to be quite honest magic isn't very useful in this game except for nailing flying enemies and even that's only useful until you get the skill which lets melee attacks do it instead.
I hardly used mages for black magick either. And I also hardly used curative magicks for the final boss, but replaced the gambits with x-potions.

I also was never implying that they should restrict equipment but it would be nice to see a system where once you started down a path it was difficult to wind up on the same one as someone else. I do like the system, I just think it could have been done better with a little more effort. It was still a classy game that I had very little issues with.
Maybe the International Zodiac Job System will have this. Apparently, it'll have 12 license boards to make a job-system like build for your characters.

Hrm, Panthers in the Gulmore Jungle give you around 45000 gil if you sell 99 Coeurl Pelts, and a few thousand more if you sell the other loot as well. Else you could try chaining skeletons in the paramina rift, but I'm not too sure if there are zones where they pop up a lot and without much interference from other types of mobs.

Get a load of X-potions, and swap your healing spell gambits with X-Potions to conserve MP and speed. Keep Protect, Shell and Haste up at all times. Decoy the tank and control the healer. If you think you can keep up with the healing, Berserk your damage dealer and/or tank. Else just let them pound away.

What level are you, anyway? I kicked the boss's ass at around level 48, and had to use about 5 phoenix downs.

Almost like a Director's cut of a movie having the deleted scenes that weren't shown in the theatre.
But Director's Cuts are usually released around the globe, whereas the International versions and Final Mixes and whatnot are only available in Japan. I guess that's what irks people the most.

Wasn't the extra edition of FFX just the European version (With the dark Aeons) add a few cutscenes or something?
Oh, erm. I'm not too sure about that. But I do know that the international version of FFX-2 had a few extra missions and dress spheres, and then there's the final mix of KH 1 and 2.

I beat the esper in the Stillshrine of Miriam the other night, the one where you can't use any magic. Fuck me was that tough, especially as I didn't know you wouldn't be able to use magic and only had 15 X-potions on me. Thankfully, I've got everyone's level 3 quickenings and I got lucky with a quickening combo, chained 18 hits together and took about 50,000 hp off him. then switched to the other three, managed a 12 hit combo then threw hi-ethers at the reserve members, switched them back in and got another big combo in. Managed to use all the X-potions and about 45 phoenix downs in the process though. Possibly having more than one bubble belt for the whole party might have helped matters a little..
It saves you a lot of potions when you equip your shield users with an Ice Shield and give someone else the dawn shard, and make sure everyone is shelled. Then kill the little elementals first before taking on Mateus. Using weapons with lightning element helps a lot too.

I never had too much trouble out there, actually. And you can still use magic there, right?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.
