Hey guys, I've been tempted to buy this game for a long while now, but since the demo ran pretty shittily on my computer, I'm wondering if it's worth my time (I know BF1942 ran a whole lot better in the non-demo version). Does anyone here have specs similar to my computer?

Quote:
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ (2.08GHz)
512MB of RAM
GeForce FX 5200 (128MB video card)
Unfortunately, I won't be able to play until September even if I get the game now, since I'm going to be spending my summer across the country with my laptop that doesn't come close, but I'd like to know if it's worth trying. =/

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Turning down graphics settings should make load times go faster (especially textures). I know when I play UT2k4 with my roommate even though his processor is a lot faster, since he has all settings at max it takes him considerably longer to load than me with all settings at near-miniumum.

How ya doing, buddy?

Isn't that the same kind of technical support there was behind Battlefield 1942 in the first place? =\

Hey guys, question.

My roommate has a copy of Battlefield 2 he's willing to let me use the key for (since he doesn't play it anymore), but I don't have a DVD drive. Do you think the game will work for online multiplayer if I download an image, install with his key, and use a no-cd crack for it (actually, I guess I could always just play with it mounted forever, but this would be easier)?

What would I get blacklisted for, though? I mean, he's quit the game and has no interest in playing again and if he did, he would be sitting right next to me and we'd kinda know if the other was using the account.

Think I'd be alright just leaving the whole DVD image mounted? That's not really a huge hassle for me and might be easier than messing with what could be problematic mini-image things.

Edit: Ack, looks like I need to use the mini-image since it doesn't recognize the dvd after installation.

How ya doing, buddy?

Sweet, the image worked and I was able to play a few games without a problem. Managed to get a basic badge in Spec Ops and Anti-Tank as well as my first promotion (yay PFC) right before I finished for the night. I wasn't able to join a squad on any of the servers I played on, do you have to be a certain rank in order to do that?

Ahh, that's what it was, then. In the demo you could join squads while dead, so I'd always do it then so I wouldn't get killed by someone while that massive screen was up.

Also just played their new version of Wake Island. It's amazing how that map could be perfect in BF1942 but now it felt miserable with the helicopters and artillery crushing my team the whole time. That's actually the one thing I've felt ever since I started playing the demo is that artillery shouldn't be able to shoot nearly as often as it does. It makes it too easy to just whomp on a base.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

The titan combat reminds me a bit of Tribes, except that you need a computer about 20x as powerful to play it (and the lack of kickass jetpacks). =\/

No vehicles actually just means no land vehicles. You still get boats off of the main US ship. I actually had a really good Infantry Only round on Wake once. It makes sneaking around to the far side of the island really effective since the Chinese forces can't just zip along in a tank to blow you up before you capture the point.

Also buying another 512MB of RAM from some dude at my school tonight, so I'll see how much upgrading to a gig of RAM will help me. My biggest problem right now is when I have a grenade go off near me (or a tank fire or artillery) I get less than 5 frames a second while the screen's wobbly, so I'm pretty much helpless during that time (as opposed to my roommate's computer where at least I can see where I'm running and can try to do stuff).

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Yeah, unless you've got a computer worse than mine

Quote:
Athlon XP 2800+
512MB of RAM (bastard didn't get my e-mail to meet tonight)
GeForce FX 5200
the game should be playable. I can't fly airplanes or helicopters, nor can I gun effectively in any sort of vehicle (pretty much all I can do is drive tanks and jeeps), but I still am able to place on the higher end of my team most rounds. I generally stick to infantry-only servers since the game will runs a lot better on them since I don't have to constantly refresh vehicle positions and everything. Playing BF2 right now is about the same performance I used to get out of my PII 300mhz with 64MB of RAM and an ATI Rage Pro onboard graphics card (running at about the same resolution ;_; ).

If anyone wants to add me to the wiki feel free.

Edit: Oh yeah, guess I usually play as either medic or support. On the rare occasion I'll play on a vehicle server I've started to favor the engineer over anti-tank recently. No special forces, though I'd love to get my hands on that G36E.

Does special forces come with a separate key? My roommate and I have been sharing the same copy of BF2 and I was thinking about getting the expansion so we could play together (I know this used to work with BF1942 and the expansions since a few of my friends at other colleges did it).

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Back on the Wake thing, one of the biggest problems I have is being an American assaulting the island how long it'll take you to take a landing craft from the main ship to somewhere like the beach. I can't count how many times I've tried to sneak around that way only to get taken out by a helicopter/airplane at the last second because I have no defense against them during my 3+ minute boating trip. Let us move the ship around so at least it'll give the map some variability (hell, how perfect would it be for the Commander to drive the ship so he can place spawn points right where he thinks it's appropriate).

Now that my desktop's alive again I might try to see how it's running BF2 with 1GB of RAM instead of 512MB. I'm not expecting a whole lot, but maybe I'll actually be able to do servers with vehicles and aircraft this time.

Well, this is also on a 4 year old computer with an older AGP card, so I'm not really expecting a huge improvement.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

Has there been a patch or something in the past few months? I just tried to play and I could only see around four servers (with my usual filters that used to return a shitload of them).
