As someone said before, Freelancer owns. It's a huge universe where you can do whatever you want. You can play the campaign and unravel the story or you can do whatever you want. Feel like being a trader? You can buy a huge freighter ship and travel across the HUGE galaxy and trade goods using the trade lanes (which are pretty cool). If that sounds boring, you can be a pirate and wait for the traders to use the trade lanes and shoot the lanes offline so you can hijack their cargo. You can pretty much do whatever you want. Space is very populated and it feels like you're really in a galaxy filled with activity. The graphics are great even for this time (except for the slightly lacking planet textures) but the best thing is the Mouse-Flight control system. It's unlike any other space sim out there and I highly recommend it.
