Galciv 2 is a 4X joygasm. Definitely check it out.
It's polished, detailed and very addictive, but the game does have its weak points: one-dimensional ground combat and a boring tech tree among others, and I hate the fact that you can see each race's sphere of influence in the entire galaxy from the very first turn. Sure, we can just turn off the display, but the AI certainly isn't going to stop using that information even if we do. Right now it's also impossible to give commands specific ships in a stack (Upgrade/Sentry/Guard/etc) without using hotkeys or moving them to their own empty sector first. This really needs fixing. I heard there is absolutely no cd check, which I can't confirm because I bought and downloaded my copy online, and yes, you will only need your cd key to download the updates. You'll want to download the updates though, because the original unpatched version is much flimsier, interface- and gameplay-wise. Most amazing jew boots ![]() |
That's 4X as in explore, expand, exploit and exterminate. Wikipedia unsurprisingly has a page on the genre:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4X There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
They have a Quick Start Guide at the official site that might be helpful.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
