If you have spyware problems and/or have a slow computer, this combo is an excellent thing to try. It works 95% of the time and it always improves computer booting times.
The Ultimate Combo of Death instructions:
1. Download and install the following software:
- CCleaner
- Free version of Ewido trojan scanner
- When you install this, uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu" under the Additional Options Window. These don't really work in the free version, and you don't need them anyways.
2. Reboot into safe mode. To do this, go to Start -> Run, then type msconfig. In the BOOT.INI tab, check the /SAFEBOOT checkbox, click Apply then OK. Then restart your compy.
3. Whilst in Safe Mode, run CCleaner. Click the Run Cleaner button. This basically takes an automatic machine gun, goes onto your hard drive and shoots the fuck out of anything that is just chillin and not doing anything. It also makes step 4 run faster.
4. Next, run Ewido. Click Scanner in the left menu, then click Start. When Ewido finds something, it pops up an alert. Select "Remove" and check the "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking OK. This gets rid of any trojans you may have along with any crap they leave in the registry that makes them imossible to destroy.
5. Get up and get a snack after you see the dialog and click OK, maybe watch a TV show or two. It took 96 minutes to finish on my compy, and my compy is pretty damn fast.
6. Then, repeat step two except uncheck the /SAFEBOOT checkbox, then restart the compy.
Jam it back in, in the dark.
