Finally decided to order the 'Patlabor the Movie Limited Edition' for... well, a shitload of money. My wallet is hurting but I'm telling myself it'll be worth it when I have the sleek box and awesome books in my hands. Unless of course the box comes mashed or dented, in which case there will most likely be hell to pay.

Also got Totoro in the mail just now. Never seen it before (saved it for DVD) and with its reputation, I'm really looking forward to watching it soon.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If I do, I'd rather be out $18 instead of $40, which is the box's original price (on sale as a pre-order).
Don't be a dick, don't buy bootlegs.

Recently bought Kamichu! Vol.1 with the box, a seriously beautiful package. Though some of the pencilboards and the wallscroll included was quite a bit too loli for me so I'll keep that one unopened and stash it away somewhere.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

The R1 is €20 cheaper here (and an even better looking box with ABe artwork) or even less here if you're feeling lucky with customs.

Anyways, I recently got the Area 88 OAV from ADV; yay for cheap, remastered, old-school classics on DVD! It's over 20 years old but it looks absolutely fantastic.

In addition to that I also got the Giant Robo economy collection from Media-Blasters. And believe me when I say that this is most likely the best-valued release in the history of anime on DVD. In fact it's unbelievably, insanely, ludicrously good. You get all the episodes of one of the best OAVs ever created, remastered, as well as the GinRei spin-off episodes, in individual keepcases with a box/sleeve for literally less than the cost of one regular DVD. See here or here. I really don't know what would make one not buy it at that price.

Finally I also decided to start collecting the Crying Freeman manga from Dark Horse since the volumes are over 400 pages for the price of a standard VIZ/TP/etc. volume where I buy my books (adlibris.com), seems like they have some sort of special deal with DH or something. Story is pretty engaging but Ikegami's amazing art is what really makes it stand out.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

All the releases are anamorphic 16:9, the listing on DVD Pacific is messed up but it's the right UPC #. Personally I wouldn't buy the R4 because it's PAL. The show was animated at 30fps and PAL is 25fps, so to get it to work they would have to either drop every sixth frame entirely or somehow blend a whole bunch of them together. It might look good, but then again it might not.

And generally if you get through customs without paying anything, Deep Discount DVD or DVD Pacific are the best deals, but if you don't Axel Music will almost always end up cheaper (free shipping, and no customs charges guaranteed because they ship from within the EU.) You could always e-mail them and ask if they really can get it in stock in a couple of days, usually they answer e-mail within a couple of hours.

P.S. Buy Giant Robo instead! :aargh:

How ya doing, buddy?

Recently pre-ordered and pre-payed FLCL Ultimate Edition and friggin' Gunbuster! I should get FLCL soon(ish), but it's going to be a pain to wait till the end of February for Gunbuster. And it saddens me that I won't be able to get my hands on the exclusive Trailer Manga Card (damn mail-in offers...). Not sure exactly what it is, but it has art by Haruhiko Mikimoto on it so it has to be something awesome.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Ah. No wonder my Gunslinger Girl boxset didn't look as good as the real collection that came out. The custom-made version that I have is from hong kong but the dubbing is included. The quality of episodes, however, is a tad bit fuzzy. Not that I'm complaining but it's good enough for those who don't want the real thing and rather buy it cheaper. Oh I forgot to mention the sets for Ghost in the Shell 1st+2nd GIG was custom-made but the quality is was just as good so no worries here ^^. But the rest of what you said is true. Geneon's Star Ocean EX boxset was around 90 bucks but I got the other one instead..If it followed the storyline I would've dished out another $100. I think.
Your post doesn't make any sense at all and has nothing whatsoever to do with what you quoted. You're talking about buying crappy, illegal, bootlegs. What aku was talking about was the legit companies outsourcing dubbing work to places like Singapore because it's a lot cheaper.

Anyway I finally bought Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress, haven't seen it yet, probably will sometime next week. Now get cracking on that Paprika DVD, Sony!

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
