 I think the only constraint with this system is that you actually have to be on AIM while adding the name. If you're using AIM it's basically instantaneous! I'm not sure how much easier it can get..  Well, going to the buddy list and clicking on the name from there would be convenient. I suppose all it would require is to simply turn all those names into links. However, adding it to the drop-down menu would probably require much more coding, and people would probably want to be able to do the same with MSN Messenger names as well.
