Resident Evil Movie Series.
Instead of dividing the RE movies into different threads, I decided to combine the movies into one thread.
------ I found this linked on a Resident Evil website. It's from MTV: Milla Jovovich loves being a mutant — a good thing, considering she's about to become one yet again, as "Resident Evil: Extinction" is slated to start production Monday (May 15) in Mexico. "I just love being typecast; it's my favorite thing ever," Jovovich joked in a Valley Girl voice (see "Milla Jovovich Makes Her Case For Being Every Geek's Dream Girl"). But seriously, "I don't think it would be a great sci-fi action movie if there wasn't some sort of viral mutation going on. You always have to have some crazy virus that gets out there and suddenly infects people with these strange powers." Jovovich's character has gone through so much transformation from the first "Resident Evil" to the third installment that the actress feels sorry for her. "Poor Alice is just the queen of mutations," Jovovich said. "It just keeps going on and on for her." But there is an upside: "She's definitely got some crazy new powers in the new movie, I can tell you that much." It's not just that mutant powers sound cool (Alice discovered in the past films she has superhuman speed, strength, sensory perception and mental powers), but scriptwise, they're also easily explained, unlike some other superpowers. "If people have powers out of the blue, I'm like, 'OK, what school did they go to? Where did they train? Are you joking?' " Jovovich said. "The mutation thing gives us a lot of free reign. I like mutation thingies, as long as it doesn't happen in real life!" While Jovovich concedes that "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" didn't measure up to the first film, she doesn't think this sequel will have the same problem. "The studio wanted more action, more explosions, and maybe the story line kinda got swept under the carpet because of that," she said of "Apocalypse." "Unfortunately with these kinds of movies, there's only so much control the creative people can have before they get subverted by the Man. But hopefully you'll like 'Resident Evil 3' better. The script is really rad. I was almost in tears reading it." That's because of all the "crazy things" that happen to characters like Alice's comrades-in-arms Jill Valentine (played by Sienna Guillory) and L.J. (played by Mike Epps), as they continue fighting the undead and try to prevent the zombie virus from spreading. While Jovovich won't spill on what those crazy things are, she will promise this: "You won't even expect it." — Jennifer Vineyard -------------- From the other things that I've read about the third RE movie, it's going to be another big departure from the game series. Even more so than the first movie. The first RE movie had almost nothing in common with the game series. It had 'Umbrella', the 'lickers', the dogs, and of coarse the lovable zombies, but no characters from the games. I liked the movie, but I wish the story was closer to the first game's story. I liked 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse' (#2) better than the first movie because it had more to do with the games. It had characters from the games and the story was similar to RE3. I wish that 'RE:A' had more monster from the games, mainly Hunters. I liked that Nemesis looked like he did in RE3 and that he got to say his magic word, "STARS". I'm sure 'Resident Evil: Extinction' will be entertaining, but I wish that it wasn't going to stray from the games so much. Supposedly, there is going to be a fouth RE movie after 'Resident Evil: Extinction'. I'll see the next movie(s). I like Milla Jovovich. xman25 Most amazing jew boots |
Some new stuff:
1)From joblo.com: Hola amigos. Just returned from Mexico City where the sickness they call RESIDENT EVIL 3 is shooting. As had already been widely reported, most of the zombie fun this time around takes place in the desert. While I can't share much about the flick with you just yet, there were some interesting tidbits that came up regarding other projects and I thought I'd share some of that with you. Of course, as Pat Torfe told you about the other day, we had producer Jeremy Bolt share some info on upcoming projects ranging from CASTLEVANIA to DOA 2. The RESIDENT EVIL stuff he gave us is mostly top secret at this point, but I can tell you to expect the introduction of an important character from the early games, and I think all fans of the series will be pretty damn happy with a new boss monster that's gonna rear its ugly head. We also got a chance to chat with the F/X guys, and while we don't know exactly what's being done with the fight scenes, it was confirmed that there is a LOT of blood, and they had days when they had to have up to 100 zombies made up. Sounds f*cking intense, eh? Of course many fans are happy to note that Russell Mulcahy (HIGHLANDER) is taking over the directorial reins from Alexander Witt who did a pretty good job of butchering the second flick. I'll let their words speak for them, but suffice to say that 100% of the returning RE2 cast we talked to had a big grin at the difference between working for Mulcahy vs. Witt. By far the most engaging interview of the visit was with Milla Jovovich, and not just because she was in a white tank top with no bra on. In fact she mentioned that Alice's wardrobe in this flick is a design from her fashion company Jovovich-Hawk. She also gave some insight into her opinion on the ULTRAVIOLET experience. In a nutshell she said that director Kurt Wimmer did not come through on promises he made her throughout production, and at one point she actually called him a cad. There's so much more I wish I could share with ya'll, but for now you'll have to wait. Sorry 'bout that. What I can say with confidence is that I'm looking forward to this one now. Before the set visit, not so much. 2)From IGN: June 29, 2006 - This week at the Hollywood and Video Games Summit in Beverly Hills, we got a chance to talk to the keynote speaker, filmmaker Paul W.S. Anderson. The director, famous for adapting videogames to film, talked briefly about the third movie in the Resident Evil trilogy, Resident Evil: Extinction. "My concept behind the trilogy of movies I always imagined making was: the first movie would be a prequel to the very first game. It would tell the back story of the videogame world. The second movie would be set kind of intertwined with what was happening in Raccoon City. And then the third movie would be like a post script to the world of the videogame," Anderson explained. "So the third movie, Resident Evil: Extinction is set several years in the future and it's pretty much after the Umbrella Corporation has failed to control the outbreaks of the T-Virus and the world has literally been wiped out. There's very little humanity left and a handful of human survivors are traveling around the remnants of the world in these heavily armored convoys and what they do is they go to the least populated parts of the world, because they figure that's where the least undead will be, and they travel in these heavily armored trucks and customized rolling fortresses—it's very Road Warrior--at high speed so that the undead don't get anywhere near them. So that's where the movie takes place, primarily in the deserts of Nevada and around Las Vegas. But of course, it's a Las Vegas that has kind of fallen now, because what's happened is, with no one to take care of it, the desert has come back in and half-buried Vegas. So… we built all these casinos which are sort of buried in the sand. "We built… parts of Paris [the casino]. So we built a chunk of the Eiffel Tower, but half-buried in sand. It's really spectacular." For more information about the film, visit IGN's Resident Evil Extinction page, and keep checking IGN FilmForce for the latest updates. --------- IGN also has two pictures from the set of the movie, one of Milla Jovovich loooking a bit dirty, but hot and Ali Larter as Claire Redfield looking like a Sarah Connor from 'T2' ripoff. So far the third movie looks to be an even bigger departure from the games than the first one. But, I'll hold off judgement until I start seeing footage from the movie. xman25 There's nowhere I can't reach. |
Here are the first two pictures from the third movie. Milla Jovovich as Alice and Ali Larter as Claire Redfield:

Got this from rehorror.net (spoilers):
"Extinction Script and First Details for 4th Movie Someone got their hands on a draft of a Resident Evil: Extinction script post-dated May 15th 2006. Here's all the info we could glean from it: Spoiler:
-People's impressions of the script were generally positive and it was labelled as definitely better than Apocalypse. Take that as you will." ------------ I've tried to read as little of this as possible, but it seems to be good. I hope the person who wrote this up got a copy of the REAL script and isn't bullshiting us. I also saw a link to a script review on scifi.com for the same script, so who knows. xman25 I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |

Got some new pictures. None of Milla unfortunatly, but one of her stunt double. Got some zombie pictures. They look ok I guess. From rehorrot.net: "Fourth movie confirmed. First details. 13 Aug 2006
In an interview at Comic-Con, Ali Larter who plays Claire Redfield confirmed that they have started working on Resident Evil 4 and that it will take place in Alaska. She also talked about Extinction, describing it as "Mad Max meets The Birds"." Another RE movie. They had been talking about a forth one. I think number four was up in the air, but I guess they came up with enough of a story to warrant a forth instalment. xman25 Most amazing jew boots |
From mtv.com:
September 6, 2006 Ashanti Hopes Her Bloody 'Buffy' Background Helps Her In 'Resident Evil 3' Singer/actress recently finished shooting part in apocalyptic series. By Larry Carroll When last we saw "Resident Evil" heroine Alice, things weren't looking too rosy. She had died in a crash, been resurrected by scientists in a lab and appeared to be turning into some sort of mutant/robot — quite possibly an evil one — under the control of the soulless Umbrella Corporation. On top of that, most of the world's population had been infected by the T-Virus outbreak and was rapidly transforming into bloodthirsty zombies. But help is on the way, and it's coming from an unexpected source. R&B songstress Ashanti agreed that it was a little odd when series overseer Paul W.S. Anderson approached the sci-fi rookie with "Resident Evil: Extinction," the upcoming third movie in the series. "It was very funny," she said. "But I had done a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' [episode], which was somewhat similar in the sense that I played a demon and I had to stab someone. There was blood and everything!" "Blood and everything" would seem to be the operative words in these video game-based movies, which have so far terrified fans with undead dogs, the 9-foot-tall bio-weapon Nemesis and enough zombies to suck the brains out of a Mensa meeting. The 25-year-old Ashanti, whose movie career was helped along this year by the comedy "John Tucker Must Die" (see "Ashanti Insists Film About Killing Her Ex Is Actually 'Light' And 'Fun' "), will be joined by returning stars Milla Jovovich and Mike Epps. "Milla is totally different from all of us," Ashanti said of the action-loving co-star who has brought Alice to life. "She's way more skilled [during the action scenes]. She knows what she's up against, and she's the vet. It's not too intimidating, because you expect it and you're like, 'OK, she has that covered.' " "Extinction" picks up with Alice and smartass cabdriver L.J. (Epps) riding a pimped-out school bus across the wasteland once known as the United States. Desperate for help anywhere they can get it, the duo recruit no-nonsense tough girl Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and Ashanti's character, a firepowered Florence Nightingale named Nurse Betty. "Betty drives a really cool ambulance with these huge spiked-out razorblades on the tires to keep all the undead monsters away," the singer/actress said. "Basically she tries to nurse up whoever gets bit." Ashanti said she got to perform some pretty intense stunts on the Mexico sets, but contrary to rumor, her character does not pilot the high-powered helicopter linked to one of the film's most high-concept action sequences. "No, I'm actually not flying the chopper," she said. "I drive the ambulance. But there's a couple of stunts going back and forth with the bus." Nurse Betty also gets to wield some weaponry. "I would have to say [the best part] was being able to shoot the 9-millimeter," she grinned. "That was something so liberating to me — I'd never done anything like that before. At first I was a little bit leery, and I was like, 'OK, I've got to be really careful.' "Although it had blank bullets, the gun was heavy and it made a loud noise," she continued. "But I got into it really quick, I must say. The trainer was like, 'All right, Ashanti, you got it,' and I was like, 'Pop! Pop! Pop!' " The ammo wasn't the only thing creating sparks: Between action sequences, Nurse Betty gets to play doctor with Epps' comic-relief cabby. "She and Mike Epps kind of develop a rapport, a little relationship," she revealed. "There's a lot of care going on between the two." With all the zombie-munching that goes on throughout the "Resident Evil" flicks, Nurse Betty's ability to bring back the undead should introduce a unique twist — and a very welcome one for Epps' apparently imperiled bite victim. But does Nurse Betty become a patient herself? Ashanti stopped short of revealing her fate, but she admits that when she received the horror script, she couldn't help but pray that her character would get a great death scene. "You want the most screen time, but you also want the most challenging role to get a chance to demonstrate your skills and your talents," she said. "So if that involves a death scene, it's like, 'How can I go out in victory?' If you don't die, you obviously want to stay on the screen as long as possible. So it's a combination of both." Live or die, at the end of "Extinction," things probably won't be much better off for Alice, her still-living friends or the world around them. Anderson has expressed a desire to make the series into a tetralogy, and a fourth "Resident Evil" film would have a whole universe of apocalyptic video games, graphic novels and fan fiction to inspire it. "We are the minority, the survivors," Ashanti explained of the ongoing saga in the third film and beyond. "We're looking for survivors, and we're trying to get to Alaska because we hear that's where the survivors go. The world is covered in zombies, we're running out of food, there's no water and there's a lot of people dying. It's all about just surviving." ---- From comingsoon.net: (posted on the site on October 24, 2006) "By the way, "Resident Evil" franchise fans will also be pleased to hear that the trailer for "Resident Evil: Extinction" will premiere with Ghost Rider in February." ------------- From bloody-disgusting.com: Wednesday, September 27, 2006 Sony Screen Gems has just announced that they've pushed back the release date of Resident Evil: Extinction even further! Originally announced for a September 7, 2007 release, Russell Mulcahy's film will now hit theaters September 21st. Milla Jovovich is back as Alice, and she's running with a new pack of humans, leading a caravan that's cutting through the Nevada desert on a long trek to Alaska. Hunted by the minions of the perpetually scheming Dr. Isaacs, Alice has zombies hungry for her flesh (once again) and lab rats hungry for her blood -- while Alice is hungry for only one thing: revenge. ------------------- Finally some updates. xman25 Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Another update: (from ign)
1) An End to Evil? Resident Evil: Extinction the last in the movie series? by IGN Staff December 15, 2006 - While rumors of a fourth installment in the videogame-based series persist, a new official synopsis released today by Sony matter-of-factly states that the third movie in the franchise, Resident Evil: Extinction, will be the last. The studio refers to the flick as "the third and final installment" of Resident Evil, and goes on to give a breakdown of Extinction's action: Alice (Milla Jovovich), now in hiding in the Nevada desert, once again joins forces with Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr) and L.J. (Mike Epps), along with new survivors Claire (Ali Larter), K-Mart (Spencer Locke) and Nurse Betty (Ashanti) to try to eliminate the deadly virus that threatens to make every human being undead... and to seek justice. Since being captured by the Umbrella Corporation, Alice has been subjected to biogenic experimentation and becomes genetically altered, with super-human strengths, senses and dexterity. These skills, and more, will be needed if anyone is to remain alive. The flick also stars Iain Glen, Chris Egan and Jason O'Mara. Russell Mulcahy directed from a script written by franchise producer Paul W.S. Anderson. Resident Evil: Extinction hits theaters on September 21, 2007. 2) Sienna Guillory won't be in Resident Evil 3 (from empireonline.com interview): Empire: So, you’re not in Resident Evil 3. How come? Sienna: It was that awful thing of bad timing and things not happening at the right time. I was doing something else and couldn’t be there and the stars didn’t align, which is a shame. ------ There is also a new picture of Milla Jovovich from RE3. xman25 There's nowhere I can't reach. |

Here is an interview Milla did with Wizard Universe: http://www.wizarduniverse.com/movies.../004257983.cfm From wikipedia: Horror magazine Fangoria featured the film in the August 2007 Issue, talking with director Russell Mulcahy. [13] The following details were revealed: 1) Mulcahy stated that, "What I'm trying to do with this new sequel is to make a cross between a horror movie, a spaghetti Western and an Italian Mad Max type of thing." 2) Alice's convoy are traveling across the Nevada desert trying to reach sanctuary in Alaska. 3) The film will feature new "super zombies" that have been "pumped up on some sort of alter-essence steroids. They transform[...]" 4) Mulcahy also noted that he was happy with the ability to use CGI, which allowed for an increased level of gore, and many decapitation scenes, 5) Not all the main characters will survive the film. 6) Mulcahy also stated concerning the ending of the film trilogy, "As far as I'm aware, this is indeed supposed to close the book." Edsplosive, what were you really expecting? High concept? Deep thoughts? The Resident Evil movies are the kind of movies you don't bring your brain to. It's ok to watch big dumb movies every now and then. I basically got what I expected from 'Resident Evil: Extinction'. The complaint that I do have for the movie is that it seems like a 95 minute set up for the next instalment(s) in the franchise. I know it's been said by the producers that number 3 is the last one, but the ending leaves the door very wide open for there to be other Resident Evil movies. The actor who plays Wesker is pretty lame. The final boss fight was too short. But, overall I found the movie entertaining. According to boxofficemojo.com 'Resident Evil: Extinction' made $9.5 million on Friday. RE 1 made $17.7 million its first weekend and $40.1 million overall US boxoffice. RE 2 made $23 million its first weekend and $51.2 million overall US boxoffice. Both of the first two movies made over $100 million worldwide. My guess is that RE 3 will probably take in between $20 and $25 million its first weekend.
