Reinstalling Windows XP Pro

I just got a HP/Compaq laptop off ebay but it already came with a bunch of programs I didn't want so I was wondering what program I could use to wipe my laptop so that there is nothing so I can reinstall WinXP without all the extra programs. I don't want to format my laptop b/c formatting doesn't get rid of everything. So what type of program would I need to get what I'm asking for or is there a better way of going about this? Thanks in advance!

Whoops! Maybe I should have posted this in the Help Desk. Sorry!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Did you get a drivers disc? I hope so. If not, then you need to find the drivers that the laptop needs to run. Laptops are screwy when it comes to drivers, and if you don't install with those drivers, often the laptop becomes unusable.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I have the WinXP Pro Operating System CD which contains software and drivers already installed on it so the answer is yes.

How ya doing, buddy?

Huh?
Then rezero the entire harddrive and create partition table from scratch. It's the way I 'reinstalled' my dell notebook:
1. backup entire harddisk to external drive (using dd and compressing it later with 7z)
2. rezero harddrive (which kills the rescue partitions dell always creates)
3. divide drive into two equally large partitions (w2k/gentoo dualboot)
4. install operating system I (w2k)
5. install operating system II (gentoo)
6. works, yeah

No problems with drivers because I could get them all from the dell support site (this applies to the windows os). Like Dayvon said, make sure you have all drivers or you have some place you can get them.

The disk you have is probably like the one my sister got with her toshiba... It makes you install all the crappy programs along with windows xp on a reformat. So what you need to do is either get a new windows xp disk and use that to refomat or just uninstall the programs after using the hp disk. If you buy/download a new windows xp disk just get the drivers off the hp website.

I did a similar thing for my sisters computer cept windows only costs me 10 dollars at my university

I was speaking idiomatically.
