Holy Sack of shit balls. Did Castlevania: SOTN have a secert ending??
Me being a total castlevania junkie, I came across this mp3 file. My friends, this is not a joke. The dialog is from the same terrible actors who voiced for SOTN.
Now I found this file over at the castlevania dungeon. They have speculated that konami took it out, but the guy who recieved the mp3 does not. This file is legit. castlevania.classicgaming.gamespy.com/Images/Weird/SotN/sotnhddn.mp3 I cannot post urls yet because I dont have enough posts. ANyways, just make sure to type http:double backslash in front of castlevania before copying and pasting. Jam it back in, in the dark.

I believe that I read that it hasn't been proved whether it is or is not in the game, the problem being if it is, noone has found it.
But I can't help but feel it isn't, it has been almost 10 years since the game was released and noone has said about such ending other than ripping that mp3 How ya doing, buddy? |
I remember playing around with the game files a few years ago with some programs I used to have and found unused dialog, but I don't remember if this was in there.
I'd say it's worth a shot. (For added fun, play track 2 on a CD player.) This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
I think that track is unused. I have discovered this thing long time ago. I could only guess that happens because of some cancellation. Does anyone own the japanese version? is there the same dialogue + ending that removed in the english version?

No it didn't.
I was speaking idiomatically. |
"Little girl.. little girl..."
Wait, isn't this Rondo of Blood? EDIT: Nevermind. There's no secret ending in SOTN. This might just be an easter egg. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Aren't there, like, five endings in SotN? One of them must've been a secret at some point. Anyway, I believe on that same website you'll find some information about a "secret area" of the game that was mostly likely just an unfinished portion. Supposedly you could get into it if you managed to get yourself stuck in the front gate of the castle (you can slide through it as Richter if you're fast enough).

Given the release date of the Saturn version (later than the PSX versions), it was certainly possible that the dialog was setup for Maria's version, which they were going to do some type of ending. However, Maria was cut out as a playable character from the PSX version (but she is in the Saturn versions, although there is no ending or dialogue).
And for those curious, the Japanese dialog from the game is actually in the game. Get a PSF ripper and you'll find it. The only real changes are in the text. There's more changes between the Saturn and PSX versions than there are between US and Jap versions. What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
Yeah the Saturn version of Symphony of the Night has a few new areas as you can see in this map:
http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/satur...a_full_map.gif Maria's Ending is basically the same as Richter's though in the Saturn version. It just shows her standing on the cliffs outside the castle, no dialogue or anything. Here is the transcription of the "ending" from Zach Keene's FAQ on GameFAQs:

Of course they would be. Nothing else makes logical sense.
And as for the voice, I don't think it was Shaft technically. I think it was Shaft through Richter, hence the odd voice, since we're not suppose to know Shaft exists unless Richter is defeated properly. Though frankly, how did that guy come back from the dead after Rondo of Blood? Oh wait, this is Castlevania we're talking about here. ^^;; There's nowhere I can't reach. |
What likely happened is the English translators did a straight dump of all the audio and text in the game, and translated it carte blanche whether it was actually used or not. This is a pretty common practice, since it's faster to translate everything than to spend the time looking for what's implemented and what's not. You can find examples of translators converting unused text in lots of games, all the way back to Ducktales on the NES.
Clearly another ending was planned, but never got implemented due to impending deadlines. We know they had to hurry the game along, since there's a whole area that got cut from both versions of the game. The Saturn port gave them enough time to implement Maria as a playable character, but not enough time to complete that missing area or put in her special ending. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. ![]() |
