Spanish Rice

Okay, so I'm going on a Spanish Rice-making splurge because I feel that I should be making my favorite rice dish of all time, rather than buying it. Well, I looked online for a few recipies, and, of course, I found many different ones.

Some recipies called for basil and rosemary, while others called for mustard, chili, and other ingredients. I don't really want to go out and buy special ingredients, unless I'm sure that they'll work.

However, the primary ingredients--rice, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, garlic, water, salt, pepper, and oil--were all common among those recipies.

I've tried making Spanish Rice with basil, and because I didn't have any Rosemary handy, I put in Oregano instead. It turned out tasting pretty good, but it was still a bit bland.

Any suggestions for a perfectly tasty dish of Spanish Rice? I'm still curious as to how mustard will work. Also, would you recommend a deep skillet or a shallow one?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Just add a fuck load of lard and chili pepper to your rice while it is boiling, tada you have Taco Bell rice (which isn't too shabby).

What you need to do is just befriend a family of Mexicans, live with them, understand their rice making ways, and steal their recipes!

There's nowhere I can't reach.

What spanish rice is that, dude? I'm spanish and it's the first time I see thouse ingredients for any meal. Are you triying to make a "paella"?

Look, I leave you a link to a well known spanish cooker. It's on spanish so take near a translator. The link goes directly to the rice category.

I thought so, but I've never had mustard seeds before.

Hah! Nice! Strangely enough, that "Why you throw chip?" image came to mind.

I looked up Spanish Rice, and that's what came up in almost all of the recipies I found. They were all labelled as Spanish Rice as well. Doesn't paella have more ingredients or something? I've never tried it, but I've heard a little about it.

Thanks for the link, though! Some of those recipies look really delicious. Hah! That translator might come in handy, since I can only understand less than half of the site.

How ya doing, buddy?

Perhaps you are trying to make mexican "dirty rice"?

This dish is best with lard (manteca). Fry the rice in the lard for a bit, then put a couple tomatoes, an onion, maybe half a green pepper, and a jalapeno or two in a food processor and add that wet mix to the rice along with however much chicken broth you need to cook the amount of rice you are making. Cover and cook on lowest heat until rice is done. Mix in chopped cilantro and lime juice.

I was speaking idiomatically.

don't go to a cheap little resturant for rice. You need to go to the home a salvadorian or puerto rican and get some fresh home made rice. best.ever.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I don't know if this is the spanish fried rice you're talking about but this is a simple way of doing it.

Put some day-old cooked rice and oil into a frying pan and fry for a bit. Crack and egg into the middle and mix. Pour in some oregano and basil, mix and finally pour in some tomato sauce and mix. Add other ingrediants as you see fit.
