Anime FTP: Yay or Nay?
So I'm thinking of starting an Anime FTP. I just want to know if anybody here would use it or not. It is indeed, MUCH SLOWER than downloading from BitTorrent, so I suppose if it's something that's hard to find on BitTorrent or for users who cannot use BitTorrent, it's an alternative. Just want some input from the Anime Community here.
Jam it back in, in the dark. |
Living on-campus, I can't use BitTorrent. I usually get what I need from IRC bots, but occasionally there are times where I can't find what I need on channel bots (School Rumble 2nd season in this case), and most channels ban for using @find anyway (for some reason).
So if you had something that I couldn't find on IRC, I'd use it. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Definitely would use it for something eps or animes that no one would seed for (eg. Most anime after a week, or two at tops!) It'd be nice to know that there is a certain place to get it without the fear of no seeders.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Well, I have access to a super high speed anime FTP. So if you decide to go ahead and do it and can't find something feel free to ask me to try to find it. I wouldn't use it but I would love to help you out.

Well since I too live on campus and can't use BitTorrent I would love this idea.
I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() |
Considering I have almost every anime ever made since, like, ever, I probably won't use this that much. However, I might use it if you have some rare things that I don't happen to have, and can't pick up from torrents.
What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Ok, I think I'll start one and see where it goes. The main difference between this and other FTPs is that my files are significantly larger. As such, speed caps are hard to implement since 20kbps would take you quite a while to finish downloading the episode.
How ya doing, buddy? |

Well, it's up, Check it out and tell me what you think! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body? |
I thought the "No, I would use Bitorrent" answer was going to utterly win. After all, thats why that was created: that everyone could share everything and stop with the paradigm where one centralized server shares to everyone else.
But I think everything has its pros and cons ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
I think in order for it to be a success you'd need to be hosting things that aren't so easy to find. Most of the stuff you've currently uploaded is readily available by torrent anyway. Since it is slower, there's no reason to use your bandwidth when I could find this stuff elsewhere. I like the idea a lot, but it's so much harder to host a comprehensive anime FTP than it is to host a comprehensive music FTP, because of the filesizes. You're never going to be able to host a similar proportion of what is 'out there' compared to a music FTP.
Props for trying though. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
Very true. I suppose that BitTorrent is still the way to go since 1) FTP is significantly slower and much too slow for the filesizes and 2) much of the stuff is still readily available from other sources.
Maybe in a few years when speeds are faster and some of the stuff no longer have seeds will an FTP be more worthwhile. I suppose I'll keep the server up until it falls to the depths of the My Stuff board. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
At the very least I'd counsel against offering Bleach and Naruto. Anyone who can't get those from elsewhere just isn't trying...

If you must insist on HTTP downloads, that site doesn't seem to have any obvious drawbacks. How it can afford the bandwidth cost is beyond me, though. I wonder if their episodes are reduced in size (and therefore quality) by some method or another.
I won't be signing up, mind you... I'm just curious how they can manage to offer what they do. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
All there anime are at the size they are normally are when downloading through torrents (which is how they get their anime).
Not sure how they get their money but I do know they get donations, as listed on their page. Heres another site that requires you to sign-up but you can download some of the latest anime. Such as Death Note, Bleach,, and etc... http://www.anikei.com/ FELIPE NO ![]() |
well be awesome if we have ftp for anime
