I don't know about the anime, but the manga is pretty much up to the same section (I think the manga might only be ever so slightly ahead... they've done a bit more on Nico Robin's past, although the manga chapters have been coming out so slow lately that it's almost frustrating ^^; )

One thing that I've been wondering ever since the beginning of the start of this story arc is if a new crewmember will indeed be added to the Straw-hat crew, and more importantly who it will be...

Spoiler:
Clearly it's either got to be Franky or Pauli.... Although at the moment, I'm thinking Franky is more likely, even though he's still got his own crew at the moment. My guess is that the Franky Crew will probably be no longer considered as criminals by the Iceberg and the Authorities of Water 7 after their feats at Enies Lobby [specifically protecting the ship/weapon plans from being handed over to the government], and so they'll become new shipwrights in working in Water Seven, while Franky gives them a teary and emtion-filled goodbye, promising to come back, blah blah.

Yeah, so to me Franky seems to be who the manga-ka is leaning towards...

However, personally I'd prefer Pauli. Why? Because I believe his character is a good contrast to Sanji (Sanji is ultra-liberal always trying to pull the ladies, while Pauli is always ultra-conservative telling the ladies to cover up and not act shamefully ). Although, I must admit that Pauli's rope ability is a bit boring compared to Franky, and reminds me too much of Omega Red from X-men... but then again, the artist has proven he can take a seemingly mundane idea (i.e. stretchy-body --> Similar to Mr. Fantastic, except that Luffy >> Mr Fantastic ), and actually be really creative with it. On the other hand, Pauli's fighting-face is too similar to Zoro and Sanji (and Luffy when he gets pissed)...

Oh the dilemma

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Okay, not sure how to make the spoiler tag,
But I agree with all the points you made and probable outcomes, except that I personally prefer franky. he is much more involved in the mugiwara crew, already establishing some funny connection with some of the crew,
And in a design point of view he is much more unique and his colors add to the very colorful mugiwara hair colors (yellow,red.green.black,brown and now blue).
Paulie is cool and I like his conservative funny side but he is more of a Kohza/Wiper character, plus... we already have a blond!

you took the words outta my mouth , amld. sooo um.. yeah thats what i would've said about paulie. Franky is different and top it off..he's a cyborg and fits the straw hat crew.. we dont need that many people who do/look/act the same way..

btw.. im only in the anime series soo i dunno where the rest starts in the manga..

AMLD, spoiler tags are done like this:

Spoiler:
Spike dies

Quote my post to see the code.

Also, if you're going to make this the definitive OP discussion thread, you had better pretty up your first post according to the guidelines (stickied on the top of this forum).

Personally I loved the Sky Island story arc best ^___^ It just kept on getting better and better and exceeding my expectations with each new chapter, and the way it all came together in the end was very well done. I swear, my respect for the Oda-sensei continually grows ^__~

In terms of character back story, my favourite is still Chopper's ^___^ (it's one of the rare moments in manga where I was so emotionally drawn in that I actually got teary-eyed ^^; )

I'd have to agree with you that Sky Island/Skypeia is a pretty damn good arc. At first I thought it was pretty awful (mainly because of the awful bootlegged fansubs), but thanks to the people at K-F I'm enjoying going through this arc again, but also I'm pretty excited about the enies lobby arc. As for the manga...
Spoiler:
Robin is being taken to the tower of justice, and the only way for the strawhats to save her is by getting the right key from the CP9. Right now the strawhats (minus chopper & luffy) + franky are in fights with members of the CP9. The last chapter that came out was unusually funny. I'll say this, wait until you see kaku's devil fruit

How ya doing, buddy?

What do you mean? What should I do?

As for the best arc, Its realy hard to decide..
Arabasta had some awesome battles and memorable bad guys,
While Water 7 realy nail that Desperately need to win feeling..
The part where..
Spoiler:
Usopp and luffy fight was realy emotional, and everything that followed (Robin saying a distant goodbye, usopp's battle to fix merry, Aqua Laguna preperations) was so well done and sensitive, I was realy emotionally invested.. And the part where the mysterious assassins attack the mansion.. Man I was on the edge of my seat..

There's nowhere I can't reach.

If anyone is wondering where to get the manga/anime, here are a few links:

Kaizoku Fansubs - Excellent subbing group, they're currently at ep 168 in the Skypeia Arc.

If you've read ahead of skypeia in the manga and want to catch up on the anime then try either gerusama or ADC & Anime-Elites. Both are up to date anime-wise.

For manga, try null - currently they're up to chapter 398, which is 7 behind the current chapter in japan.

No, the davy-back arc was in the manga as well. I'm not sure if they added stuff or altered it slightly, but the davy back arc is in there.

Well, it was half manga half filler..
The Boat race / Ball man and Davy back fight were in the manga, the other events are filler, but I enjoyed it

Yeah, sue me for bringing up a dead thread, but the manga has been making my sit on the edge of my seat for a while.

Enias lobby spoilers

Spoiler:
The whole Kaku giraffe thing was disgusting. But anyway, I'm not a fan of giraffes to begin with, haha. Also, Sanji not being able to kick women really sets him back with Kalifa... her power to turn things to glass is pretty trippy too. I wonder if eating a devil's fruit is actually useful, especially if it's a mixed bag. I'm sure Nami will figure out a way to destroy those power sucking bubbles.

I'm just concerned about Chopper now, that sweet animal! It's a shame he had to use rumble three times...

I also really enjoyed both flashbacks, those of Tom's crew and Robin's past. I admit that Robin's past had tears starting from my eyes, but that's why I love One Piece to begin with; it just sucks you in like that!

Luffy's "gear" changes are pretty weird... I just hope this doesn't turn out to be one of those "power up" mangas like DBZ or Naruto. But with Oda's style, it doesn't seem like it'll fall into that trap. The characterization is just ingenious; I feel more connection with the haphazard Luffy than the haphazard Naruto.

Yeah, long spoiler but I just caught up 200 chapters this week. Yippee.

Double Post:
I also wanted to mention about the Going Merry thing
Spoiler:
That was really touching... I loved the fight between Usopp and Luffy, and how Luffy knew Usopp was no match for him. It was really sad.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

its really a shame that i didn't get into One piece like that. Its too late to go way back cause i already know what sanji and the rest can do. But to see them with different powers in this arc was just amazing. I always liked Usopp so powers or nothing does not apply ;p. His Soge King style was interesting at least ^^;. I have alot more respect for Nami when i saw those different versions of her and when she took out that blonde chick from CP9.
Im not sure about Chopper, but i did see that evil side of him in the recent opening of OP.. Im sure he'll kick ass.

Spoiler:
From what i saw in that opening, It doesn't look that much like DBZ,however, His aura kinda reminds me of Cell's Aura when he first fought against Goku in his perfert form. He also had that purple aura light around his body. Judging from the anime version (opening). He's not going to have any energy around his whole body like Goku's power up or Naruto's Kyuubi Chakra.
But showing the way he blew away Bruno with just the wind can remind you of good ol days of DBZ. In the end, OP is with SJ..

Well, thanks for revealing that
Spoiler:
Nami beats that bubble lady. But I already sort of expected that since OP doesn't really have "bad" outcomes, which I like.

I don't think it's too late to go back, or maybe even start over (if you have the time, which I doubt many of us have). Although it's fun to already know outcomes, at times you forget and you just like to see how it all began.

Regarding Sanji
Spoiler:
Haha, I liked the fight against the ramen dude. Him pulling out kitchen knives was classic.

Then Usopp
Spoiler:
Sogeking... when I first saw him like that I burst out laughing. It's just too funny. And that Chopper and Luffy were both like cool, Sogeking! when everyone else knew it was Usopp. -.- Well, I love how Chopper takes in all of Usopp's tall tales, that innocent reindeer!
