R.I.P Mako

Quote:
HOLLYWOOD - Memoirs of a Geisha star Mako has lost his battle with esophageal cancer at his home in Ventura County, California. He was 72.

The Asian-American actor, who was Oscar-nominated for his portrayal of submissive engineer Po-Han in The Sand Pebbles in 1966, died on Friday.

Brought up in Japan by his grandparents while his parents were studying in New York, Mako joined his mother and father when they were granted U.S. citizenship.

He studied architecture before joining the U.S. Army in the early 1950s and became passionate about acting while performing in military shows. He became a naturalized American in 1956.

After his Army service, he enrolled at the Pasadena Community Playhouse in California and studied to become a professional actor.

The Sand Pebbles, which earned him an Academy Award Best Supporting Actor nod, was his first film. His other movies include The Ugly Dachsund (1966), The Green Hornet (1974), An Eye for an Eye (1981), Seven Years in Tibet (1997), Bulletproof Monk (2003) and Pearl Harbor (2001).

His impressive TV resume includes appearances in Wonder Woman, I Spy, Hawaii Five-O, Kung Fu and The Streets of San Francisco.
He was also the awesome Iroh in the animated series Avatar, which is still running (not to mention the villain in Samurai Jack, whose name escapes me at the moment).

Spoiler:
This fucking sucks.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Indeed a sad day. Conan The Barbarian was one of my favorite movies growing up and I loved him as the wizard. I remember how pumped I was that they brought Mako back to read the epilouge for the special edition DVD. If only Arnold would have had his priorities straight and not become govenor. We could have seen King Conan Crown of Iron with Mako returning as the Wizard. Alas it will never happen. R.I.P. Mako and thanks for inspiring a kids imagination

Aku. He voiced the Shapeshifting Master of Darkness known as Aku. Which was an awesome voice IMO.

R.I.P. Mako.

P.s., not to ruin the thread or anything, but was I the only one who though of FFVII when it said Mako?

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

None of the obituaries I've seen make any mention THAT HE WAS THE FUCKING NARRATOR IN CONAN!

This was really sad news.

Between the time when the oceans drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an age undreamed of. And onto this, Conan, destined to wear the jeweled crown of Aquilonia upon a troubled brow. It is I, his chronicler, who alone can tell thee of his saga. Let me tell you of the days of high adventure!

Nope. But my dad and I had a pretty retarded joke from back when we saw him in some American Ninja movie. "I mako everything okay."

We have a dumb sense of humor. Even today we think it's high-brow comedy.

How ya doing, buddy?

He was also gonna be the voice of Splinter in the new TMNT movie.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
