Windows Media Player 11 (Beta)

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...a/default.mspx

Somewhat of a Vista look. Haven't tried it on Vista yet either.

Anyways, anyone like it? Apparently it has more compatibility with 360 in Vista. I finally like how I can arrange my playlists by artist (I couldn't in 10) or title...whatever. Easier quicktabs, etc. Haven't ran into a bug yet...just got it last night. Just wondering the thoughts!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

After Windows Media Player 10 came out, I spent about a week feeling uncomfortable with everything about it, and then downloaded foobar 2000. I've not looked back. Since I was already using Media Player Classic for my videos, and will continue to do so, I had no further use for WMP10.

Now, this post isn't supposed to be trolling, so let me ask you this. What does it offer over WMP10 that could make me give up Foobar? I happen to think that Foobar is the best thing to happen to my music collection since... ever.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

There is nothing that any recent version of WMP could offer you to go away from foobar, or Winamp, or really anything else, for that matter.

I'm not to happy that WMP11 screws up the MTP driver, though. I can't just transfer stuff using explorer to my Zen Touch now, I have to use WMP to "synch" files onto it, or else the player won't recognize the files.

Other than that, I see no real difference between WMP11 and 10.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I cant use it, wont work on WIN XP x64. But from what ive seen its just a newly skinned WMP10 with that damned MTV URGE service built in. I wont make any real assumptions until i get to use it myself, but for now ill stick with winamp.

I can't for the life of me understand how anyone can even use a modern version of Winamp. I can just about understand how you can use WMP9/10/11 series, but the last time I tried Winamp, it just seemed to have nothing whatsoever to offer to anyone. Either I tried it at a bad transitional stage, or it has qualities I'm really not seeing.

If you tried winamp 3, then yes, you tried it at a bad time. I Hated that program with a passion. Thank god they continued devlopment on the 2.xx line. Now winamp 5 has the few good qualities from winamp 3 merged with everything else from winamp 2.xx. Give it another try. Worst case scenerio youll just have to uninstall it.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I think it may have been the 3.xx series. Up until that version, I thought Winamp was a fine, basic player. That version just... ugh. It traumatised me.

Winamp was the only application I missed when I was without a PC and only had a Mac. Using version 5, I can have it look/act just like version 2, which works the same as one. It's a familiarity thing. It's a nice no nonsense player that I enjoy. It plays music and movies relatively well, doesn't have some freaky (to me in my curmudgeonly ways) interface like WMP.

It's nice to have it back, but I listen to music on iTunes most of the time these days.

What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?

Winamp 5 is perfectly fine because it's based on the 2.xx code. Every bit of functionality that 3 had over 2 was brought over in the form of plugins.

I don't get the big deal about foobar, though. Besides having a good sound with enough tweaking (of course with the cost of higher CPU usage,) there isn't much else that I like about foobar. In fact, I think it has poor playlist handling. The last time I used it, I had a playlist with a few thousand songs on it, and every time I scrolled through it, it had to reload all of the tag information. And I didn't have a complex playlist setup (just a basic [#]. [artist] - [album] - [track #] - [track] [time].) Maybe it helps reduce memory usage, but it doesn't make anything faster in the end.

It is infinitely customisable. I'm a control freak, go fig. It took me a couple of weeks to get everything exactly the way I want it, but I now have it customised to my own personal style. I also don't have long playlists. They max out at 30 songs. I'm not suggesting that Foobar is better for you, or better for everyone. I'm saying it's better for me.

Only reason I stopped using Winamp because all these updates starting adding things I didn't care about. What more would I need than just playing my damn music? Not only that, Winamp has always crashed on me a lot.

I never used Foobar because I didn't like how simplistic the UI looked. I mean I like programs like that (such as uTorrent) but when I'm playing music I just like something a little bit more 'flashy' than that.

Anyway, I guess this really isn't about WMP11 so I won't go on.

The day I switch back to WMP is the day it becomes something other than complete bloatware.

I have seen nothing so far to suggest otherwise, and as such, FB2K is still my audio player of choice, with MPC my video player.
