Imbed subtitles into a video file.
Hey. I'm looking for a way to insert subtitles (from a .txt or .sub file) into a video file. I know how to do it with ffdshow or whatever, but what I need is to actually make the subtitles part of the video stream (and thus re-render), and not it's own stream.
Is this even possible? Jam it back in, in the dark. Mario Kart DS: 498293-921939____ Star Fox Command: 155-576-696-451____ Metroid Prime Hunters: 4854-1233-4943____ Final Fantasy III: 506891214495____ Xfire: freuser____ Steam: Free.User____ |
VirtualDub + Vobsub = Embeded subtitles.
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
I don't suppose you could expand on that abit, could you? As far as I know, VobSub just packages the subtitles together with the video and audio streams inside a file container.
And also, wouldn't you reccomend VirtualDubMod over VirtualDub? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. When you install VobSub, part of the package installs plugins for VirtualDub that allow you to embed the subtitles into the video. Then you recompress the video with the subtitles. It's been a bit since I've done it.
As for VD vs. VDM, there's really no difference for what you're doing. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Ok, now with VirtualDub open and the avi loaded, how do I go about using the Vobsub plugin? (You'll have to be just a bit patient with me, I don't know a whole lot about digital video etc.).
Thanks. I was speaking idiomatically. Mario Kart DS: 498293-921939____ Star Fox Command: 155-576-696-451____ Metroid Prime Hunters: 4854-1233-4943____ Final Fantasy III: 506891214495____ Xfire: freuser____ Steam: Free.User____ |

In the "Video" drop down menu, there should be a menu option for "Filters", so select that to open the "Filters" dialogue box. Scroll down, and load the filter that's called "Textsub". If you don't have that, then you can probably download it, but it should be there.
Click the "Open" button in the Textsub dialogue box, and then select your SRT, SSA, or ASS file. If your subs aren't in this format, you will need to use a program to convert them, and possibly retime them. I recommend Aegis Sub. Having done that, just OK everything, and save your AVI. It will take a while. If you want to soft-sub your video instead, you can use VirtualDubMod to put the video into an MKV container. Otherwise, I don't recommend VirtualDubMod. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Thanks alot for the help. I'll try that out and see how it works.
P.S. No, I wasn't wanting to soft-sub, but thanks anyway. EDIT: Great, it worked perfectly! Thanks alot! What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
