I posted about this over at SoundtrackCentral.com, but I just HAVE to mention it here, too.
It's been awhile since I had visited the Sakuraba page over at CocoeBiz, but I'm glad I finally did...otherwise, I'd have missed THIS interesting bit of cool news! A host of VGM composers have been making up tracks for ringtones for MelodyClip, and they must conform to the FM limits that most phones have. Well, folks...they did BEAUTIFULLY. ![]() Here's the list of the composers...some of which you might recognize. ![]() http://www.famitsu.net/mobile/melomelo/sp/creator.html And here's the samples. Tasty, tasty! ![]() http://www.famitsu.net/mobile/melomelo/sp/listen.html And here's where it gets interesting... According to CocoeBiz, if there's enough interest, Enterbrain will release a CD of these tracks. Well, it must have happened...because HERE IS THE PREORDER!!! ![]() http://www.vgmworld.com/catalog/inde...c&item_num=941 If you have a taste for the good-ol FM-music days, then I think those samples are gonna tantalize you. And then you're REALLY gonna want this. New music in a nostalgic sound palette...gotta love that! ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. |
As a fan of such a style of music, I will say: Whoa, this is pretty awesome. Good to see that a lot of influential VGM composers haven't forgotten their roots, heh..
I don't own a cell phone myself, but heck, I wouldn't mind having one with one of these ringtones... Even if it's only to hear Shinji Hosoe's Liquid Soup play when I get a call. ;p On that note, Michiko Naruke's L.S. sample is also great. Those two would be my favorites, but I think that all the samples were pretty neat. The CD of the tunes should be some nice listening. I look forward to it. ![]() There's nowhere I can't reach.

Great samples. I didn't find a single one out of the bunch that I hated; after all, the synths were just so welcoming and catchy, with a nice selection of VGM composers.
Looks like I simply have to preorder this now (mobile strap ftw?). This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
This was actually posted about a while back ago:
http://www.gamingforce.com/forums/ge...ghlight=naruke However, the CD is news to me, I may have to pick it up... Thanks for the info, squaretex! How ya doing, buddy? |
Japanese phones sure sound good; I expected that the sound would be worse than that. I'm not disappointed though, and the old-school flavor is more than welcome.
I especially like Kenji Ito's "Lazy Night" sample. I usually don't find his music special, but when he goes electronic, that's another story! I was speaking idiomatically. |
