Let's Discuss Space Sims

I have really enjoyed:-

Star Trek - Bridge Commander
Freelancer
X Wing Series

I am hoping to play some more Space sims as there are meant to be some that are arguably better than the games above.

I have just bought Nexus: The Jupiter Incident which was recomended to me by a friend. I have played it much but so far it seems very slow to get into.

I have also bought X2 (not played it yet) which is meant to be the slowest of them all.

Has anyone played any of the games above and if so, what do you think of them?

How ya doing, buddy?

I've not played a good space sim since X: Beyond the Frontier. There wasn't enough to do, but it was fun for a while, so I imagine X2 will be much the same. I've been hoping for a good successor to the Elite series for years, now.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

I really enjoyed the x wing and Wing Commander series. It's sad that both series have been shelved.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

I've only played two and they were both pretty bad.

Universal Combat

Definately one to miss. The controls were difficult to use, the action was.... none existent. The space combat was ropey, i could never see what i was meant to be firing at. And one time I must have spent at least an hour trying to get to the nearest planet, just to give up and vow never to play this game again.
I really did try to like this game, but it wasn't to be.
It now sits on one of shelves gathering dust. (Probably the best place for it.)

X3: Reunion

I couldn't figure out the controls for a while, but when i did i didn't really enjoy it. It was too slow paced for my liking.
Over the past week or so I have been looking into getting Freelancer. It is quite cheap now so i might pick up a copy.

How ya doing, buddy?

Wing Commander needs to make a comeback, and Chris Roberts needs to direct it (or at least someone with good writing talent). The Privateer Remake feels a bit lacking to me, but all the original games I've played are great.

I was speaking idiomatically.

Currently i'm enjoying Independence War 2 - The Edge of Chaos (or I-War2 in short). In the past, i've played games like Freelancer, X2: The Threat, X-Wing/Tie-Fighter series and some Wing Commander and I have to say this game holds so much more awesomeness then the ones mentioned above.

The reason I like this game is because it's the first game i've played using Newtonian physics which makes flying hard but on the other hand very realistic as you have to deal with the forces constantly. Also, the space presented in I-War2 is HUGE. Luckily you have jump-drives but this doesn't take away long travels. I like the way they made the distances, it's much more realistic. Recently, I had to travel for around 4 billion kilometres. I've never seen this in any space-sim before. Wrapped together with high, but challenging difficulty and a nice story, this is just the game you don't want to miss. I've seen this game in the bargain bin years ago and never imagined it would be this great.

Another good game that was recommended to me is Starshatter. It's supposed to be very much like Elite (which I never played) and also allows you to enter the atmosphere and fly over the planet's surface. That alone makes the game attractive to me but it's very hard to find a download.

Aside the realistic genres of space-sims I also like the combat space-sims alot. The only ones successful enough we're Conflict Freespace and the X-Wing/Tie-Fighter series. They should make new ones, they we're awesome :/

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?
