Disconnected from router...
Every few minutes of so, I keep getting disconnected from my router. It's an SMC router being shared for 3 computers via wires. It was working perfectly until my brother came home and hooked his computer up. Now, my computer is now repeatedly disconnecting thus having me to restart the router (take out the power), disconnected all three computers.
My computer has a LONG wire, connecting about 20-25 feet. My bro says this is the problem, but I connect my sister's wire to my computer and it still doesn't work. Heh. Virus perhaps? Not enough information? Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() Want obscure Classical Music CDs? Search: http://www.lib.uwo.ca/ PM me the code, I'll rip it for ya [MAX 2 CDS/User] |
It is possible that your brother's PC is infected with something and broadcasting enough packets to bog down your network. A 25 foot ethernet cable is not very long at all. Ethernet is good for something like 500 feet. Disconnect his PC from the network and then reboot all of your equipment and see if the problem clears up, then we will go from there.
There's nowhere I can't reach. I didn't say I wouldn't go fishin' with the man.
All I'm sayin' is, if he comes near me, I'll put him in the wall. |

you could be conflicting in the computer names if you're in the same workgroup, or you may not have DHCP set up and may be attempting to use the same IP address. run ipconfig and see if the two machines have different addresses.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
make sure how many IP you put on router. like this:

I think Russ is right, when he wasn't home I closed his computer, apparently (just checked) downloading 15+ files via BT. So, I'm sure it's the packets or whatever they are XD
And nah Ryu, some routers use different IP - 198.168.2.X but yup, I got that. Thanks. =P And also, my wireless somehow stopped working. Heh, I should just buy another router. Ugh, don't buy SMC - they aren't protected from being thrown on the floor =S I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() Want obscure Classical Music CDs? It is his download rate, constantly stealing bandwidth, not sharing with others. It shouldn't have to do with the ranges since your wired in. I've never used an SMC router before...Lots of people like to use NetGear & Linksys...but in my experiences, their hardware goes faulty quick...especially their network cards. I've always liked D-Link, usually have small & minor problems. I recently got a D-Link DGL-4300 and I absolutely fucking love it!! I recommend if it you have the pennies to spare.
