Data recovery. Tips?

I need to recover a file from either a floppy disk or a hard drive. The hard drive had Win98 on it with FAT32 and then just re-installed with XP. I tried using Active@ Undelete but it seems like it didn't even detect the old FAT32 partition. I wasn't able to find the single file I needed.

Although, before XP was installed, backup of the needed files was done on a floppy. It was apparently the only media around that would work. The disk tested fine before the install but then wouldn't even bother to read once XP was installed. Active@ found some files, but not all of them. I don't even know why this is.

I'm about to try SpinRite and Stellar Phoenix(on VG's recommendation) and I hope that it will do the trick. Does anyone have any ideas or tips?

Jam it back in, in the dark.

If you need to work with unicode filenames, you'll need GetDataBack. Otherwise Stellar Phoenix will do the job.

There's nowhere I can't reach.
