Harmonic orchestra

Does anyone know of any game music using harmonic orchestra? Please mention them in this thread, I'm now playing in a harmonic orchestra and maybe I could introduce some game music to this orchestra.

This means only with percussion, piano, contrabas, brass and woodwinds.

I'm also interested in anime music using only harmonic orchestra...

It seems that all the music I listen to, always has strings in it.

Jam it back in, in the dark.

Why not just say you're in a band and make things simpler?

I believe nobuouematsu.com has a number of band arrangements of FF music.

There's nowhere I can't reach.

Never count Soul Calibur OSTs out if talking about orchestra soundtrack. If you're not orchestra lover, you'll get sick of hearing the entire Soul Calibur OST. The Xenosaga series has decent orchestra stuff too. A lot of "made in America" games usually use orchestra as the dominant style for their soundtrack.
Sorry if this is kind of off target, but Fullmetal Alchemist (the anime) has wonderful orchestra soundtrack also. I strongly encourage you to check it out.

This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Well, yeah, actually I also am in search of band music! I'm also playing in a band. There is a great difference between band music and harmonic orchestra. You can't just put them together.
Yoko Kanno's Wolf's Rain has great band music, you couldn't just put that in an orchestra with 30 woodwinds and 30 brass players...

To give you an example: I transcribed Sergei Mantis - Sea Breeze for sax, trumpet, bass and piano (that were the available instruments...) I also made a solo melody on Arc The Lad - Music Man for sax.
I was playing in a real amateur band, so I wanted to play more, but they couldn't handle it in such little time. (3 weeks of repetitions)

And I'll check out Soul Calibur, Xenosaga and FMA. Haven't heard them yet.

I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

So, is there anything out there in the video game music world or anime world for any combination of: flute, sax, trumpet, piano, violin, tuba, bass guitar, band percussion?

The best I've come up with is "Wings of Time, Time and Space" a Tribute to Yasunori Mitsuda. Also "Men's Dirge" of Radiata Stories.
Even Hamauzu's Aeolic Guardian of Musashiden 2 is playable but very difficult.
Grandia 2 has some flute - piano, violin - piano pieces. "The moon - Utikisama" of FFX would be great with violin and piano. "Another Guldove" of Chrono Cross for Guitar/piano and clarinet/flute/sax is doable.

In Anime land I've found "Curacao Selvagem" of Wolf's Rain with the melody played by sax.

I was speaking idiomatically.

The closest thing I can think of are the Dragon Quest IV, V and VI In Brass -records. They're played by a symphonic wind orchestra (= wind instruments, percussion and a contrabass).

I've yet to hear any video game music played by such "harmonic orchestra" as you call it. I'm intrigued by how it would sound, though, as I've never heard any stuff played by it.

Of course stuff by a smaller ensemble exists, but not the one you initially asked for.

What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now?

I'm thinking about Cowboy Bebop, No dog no biscuit. Would it be ambiant enough with percussion, sax, trumpet, tuba, bass guitar and piano? I tried a violin, but it really sounds awful, together with the brass. [I played some of the melody on violin together with the live version on a cd, the only thing the violin could do was playing the short repeated notes]

The only things I'm afraid of are:

- Difficult solo's for trumpet, those improvised chaotic things they do...
- Not enough brass to make it ambiant, we only have a tuba, sax and trumpet, and besides, the tuba would only fit with the bass melody, the solo melody played by tuba is too heavy I think.
- We don't have this electric guitar doing a solo, so it has to be done with maybe the piano.

I'm thinking:
Piano: solo + bass
Tuba: bass
Trumpet: melody
Sax + bass guitar: recurring short notes
percussion...

I would go for it, let's see what happens...

How ya doing, buddy?

Band music eh? Other than the Arnold Morrison Final Fantasy pieces I don't know of any VG sheet music for bands.

But I can suggest pieces if you want to transcribe them

Cowboy Bebop:
Waste Land (Limited Edition disc 2) - brass band piece with sax
Tank! - tuba may be out of place in this, but I know this works for a band as I've been to two separate band concerts where arrangements were performed.
CHeck out this video

Metropolis: (anime)
The main theme is a great toe-tapping dixieland piece.

Final Fantasy 7:
Rufus' Welcoming Ceremony - not sure of a live performance but this piece was made for a small ensemble like yours. Midis (and from them the sheet music) can easily be found.

I'm sure there are many more in my playlist, I'll let you know if I find any more!

Jam it back in, in the dark.

I've made an arrangement of the Sakuraba theme of Tales of the Abyss, The Arrow is Shot. I think it's playable with violin, sax, drum, piano, trumpet, bass and tuba.

Here is what I've got: http://filelodge.bolt.com/files/room...0is%20shot.mp3
