Ringtones-How do they work?
I just recently received a pleasant surprise. My youngest sister had graduated from high school earlier today, so as a gift my parents went and bought her a snazzy cellphone; a Motorola Black RAZR V3. The surprise for me, though, was that they decided to buy me one as well.
Since this is the first high tech cellphone I've owned in years, I'm completely new to all the workings of a phone like this. So the first thing I want to figure out is the ringtones. First, how do I transfer ringtones to the phone? This phone only has one outlet (used to hook up the recharger), so I assume I'll have to buy a cable that connects it to my PC. The second question is the types of ringtones out there. I did a little google search, and found different kinds, such as custom midis or actual mp3 rips. And last, but most importantly, is how to download free ringtones. Is there a site where I can download any kind of ringtone for free (preferably the mp3 rips)? Or is there maybe a program where I can convert my own mp3s into ringtones? I suppose while I'm at it, I'll ask where I can get free wallpapers and screensavers as well. I'm enjoying this new phone, but I don't see the need to pay extra for ringtones and such if they're available for free. Thanks for all the help. Jam it back in, in the dark. |

Motorola Mobile phone tools for PC. It's the only thing that I found that works for Motorola phones. The program transcodes your mp3 and sends them to your phone via usb or bluetooth (never tried the bluetooth since I don't have it, but usb works.) So you're probably wondering where is this for free? Well it's hard to come by since the only version floating around is 3.11h and that doesn't work with the razor. Yes you can download it and upgrade but that destroys the installation since they know your version is not legit. However if you keep (make a back up or move them) detect.inf and modem.pac, reinstall the old version and overwrite the old files with the ones from the backup and it should work and windows should detect your razr as a usb modem and you should be able to use the program properly. If not: go general setup>>communication>>Change Modem>>Select Motorola USB modem>> do not automatically pick a driver, pick one from the list, then browser to where you detect.inf is. now look for your phone and click next and finish. I did all this to make my Motorola L6 work. It may or may not work for you use at you own risk. There's nowhere I can't reach.

Sounds a lot more complicated than I thought. I downloaded a mobile ringtone converter from mininova that can save mp3s in different formats. What format are ringtones usually? Or are they just mp3s?
http://www.mininova.org/tor/303097 Version 4.04. Will this work? This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it.

Mp3 and midi.
I tried wav, but it didn't work. [but I think that the file was too small (0.4sec)] I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body?

They need to be MP3s. If you don't have Bluetooth, you should be fine using the USB cable to transfer stuff using the Motorola tools.
When I get my Verizon RAZR later this summer, I'll be downgrading its firmware to .02 (and then upgrading straight to .04 at the store) so I can use Bluetooth OBEX file transfer with my PowerBook. Kickass! Most amazing jew boots
killmoms - Well, don't really.
