This is going to be hard for me considering RPGs is my favorite gaming genre ever....
Well anyways my favorite classic video game is Streets of Rage. *droolz* That game is just too cool. Probably one of the best multiplayer fighter games. So, like the title says, what's your favorite classic game? It could be for any system but not an rpg because we all know most people love rpgs anyways ;D. How ya doing, buddy? |
Ninja Gaiden 2 was the awesomest game in the entire whole world. There's this music playing with Ryu hanging from a cliff at sunset with the temple mouth glowing in the distance. That music lasts for like 15 seconds, and it is the best ever. But only on the NES. Not a fan of the XBOX version of the nintendo game. =/
There's nowhere I can't reach. |
The StarTropics line back in the day was the greatest fucking thing ever really, and I wish there could be newer ones. The Power Blade series was fairly interesting too, fun little platformer/sidescrolling games that had a great deal of story to them.
Just too many good ones, but for favorite, StarTropics is the winner. This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Streets of Rage is amazing. The second one blew ass, but the first one rocked. I was always the white guy with blonde hair. My favorite classic game would probably be Mario 3 for NES or Sonic 2 for Genesis. Both are definately amazing I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
Well, if I can't count the Zelda games (particularly the first one. Probably can, but some might call it an RPG anyway), I'd say one of my more memorable classic games is Goonies 2 on the NES. I remember being a huge fan of the movie, and wondering why I could never find the first game (since this was called "2" after all lol).
It was really cool finding those other kids, and running around the semi-decent mazes, and then getting the speed and springy shoes so you can run faster or jump higher. I hated how you could never kill the "agents" in that game though, you just knock them down for about 5 seconds, then they get back up (although you can knock them down again, but it gets annoying when there's more than one). The graphics are really dated by today's standards, but I remember having a lot of fun playing that game I was speaking idiomatically. |
That's a hard one, since almost all my favourite games are rpgs.
Fortunately I just played this the other day and have it permanently portable now. Mappy on the NES is truth. There something fun about whipping doors open in kitties' faces and watching them be helplessly dismissed by "microwave doors." It gets really hard too, since the kitties on the later levels tend to stalk you at almost double speed. Lots of fun ![]() What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
Megaman 2
You really can't get much better than this in terms of old school sidescrolling action. This is one of those games you can play over and over again and not get tired of it. Still remains my favorite NES game of all time. FELIPE NO ![]() |
Military Madness
Hmmmm....Military Madness on the TG-16 and then later on the PS1 really took massive amounts of my time. Truely a classic, fun game. How ya doing, buddy? ![]() Fight Like A Robot! |
I have to agree with the Megaman 2 post. It's simply the best, no matter how you look at it. Even Keiji Inafune, the series creator, talked about how 3 sucked balls in comparison and that the part he liked was when you fought the bosses from 2.
Megaman 2 ftw. ![]() Jam it back in, in the dark. ![]() |
Megaman 2 kicks some serious ass, but it's way too short.
I would probably go for Super Mario Bros 3. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |

Gunstar heroes is also one of my favorite classic games. How ya doing, buddy? |
Decap Attack
old sega genesis game. Was very dumb but a lot of fun to play. I am a dolphin, do you want me on your body? |
I guess I'll have to go with Super Mario Bros. 3 as well. Most of the games I played as a kid were RPGs, so that eliminates a huge portion of my classic game roots. Either that, or Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu. That was a sweet game.
Most amazing jew boots |
I also have a thing for Super Mario Bros 3. This was the first Mario game i ever completed. I still find myself going to back to it now that i have it for Gameboy Advance. I'll have to dust off my NES copy sometime and see if i can still get my NES to work, then it'll be the good old days all over again. Super Mario World is another favourite of mine. What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? ![]() |
Are you guys serious about Streets of Rage being better than it's sequel? Granted, I didn't like SoR3, but the first one was one of the most boring beat-em-ups I've ever played. The 2nd game has a much more intuitive fighting system, and the enemies are more fun to fight. System abuse with MAX is so much fun once you get it down.
RPGs are for sissies. FELIPE NO ![]() |

Of the ones that haven't already been mentioned, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles was probably my favorite back in the day. That game had some awesome replay value.

Yoshi's Island hands down. Side scrolling platformer to its absolute perfection. Not too hard, and not too easy. Just the right amount of skill and memorization needed with some really clever levels, enemies and bosses.
This thing is sticky, and I don't like it. I don't appreciate it. |
Mine would be Super Mario Bros.3! ! ! This is like the one of the greatest game of all time! ! ! I still play it up tiill now on my SP. Others are Ballon Fighter, Lode Runner, Battle City and Megaman 1-4.

Edit Also, how has no one mentioned the Super Mario Kart series yet? Those games were damn near god. I was speaking idiomatically. ![]() John Mayer just asked me, personally, through an assistant, to sing backup on his new CD.

NO game has ever oozed atmosphere quite like Super Metroid. I don't know how any game could be crafted so perfectly, and it saddens me that no matter how much I love the current Metroids (2D and 3D), none will ever match the 1994 classic. - WraithTwo - What kind of toxic man-thing is happening now? |
It's a hard choice but I'll go with classic Bomberman. I still like to sit down and play all 50 levels on my imitation of NES - Pegasus ;_;

I got one entire song from fortune cookies. On another one, I took words from different Frank Sinatra songs and pasted them together. Another one, I was just driving around and there was a piece of paper on the ground, so I stole it.

There are a bunch of classic games that I absolutely love:
Turrican II: The Final Fight (Amiga version, awesome shoot 'em' up game with even more awesome soundtrack) Every Megaman game on the NES. Tetris Attack/Panel de Pon (Would be happy to challenge anyone at this game on ZBattle sometime) Doom and Doom 2 Wolfenstein 3D (Seriously! ![]() One Must Fall 2097 (Really one of my favorite fighting games on PC, still play it on DOSBox occasionally) Contra What, you don't want my bikini-clad body?
