VG tunes - originals? or soundalikes?
Hey all,
2 weeks late from my last post...and since I was running out of time, I just decided to throw whatever I had in this post , with more to come time permitting...now the presentation *ahem* Stemming from the strange (strange) news that Michael Jackson may have worked on Sonic 3, This thread was formed with the thought of `I wonder what other VG tunes have taken inspiration from <choose inspiration> OR that just plain sounds like <insert sound-alike>' Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying Yuzo Kohshiro doesn't have an inkling of orginality in him or that Masato Nakamura collaborated with the Childrens Television Workshop before they were dropped because BigBird and snuffy were acting weird with each other - It's just something my ears picked up is all. Anyway Just post your sound alikes, or what you think goes , and I'll see if can mix the lot! http://machinesmith.googlepages.com/ The order of the day? Feedback! Jam it back in, in the dark.

Reason: forgot to mention that the weblink takes you to 3 soundalike mixes (that's what the `feedback' bit referred to)

I suppose I could start off with something obscure. One of my favorite OST's, Vagrant Story, is clearly influenced by Elliot Goldenthal (who may, of course, have been influenced by someone else), particularly where the metallic hits and shrill brass whining. This can be heard most prominently in the track "Rosencrantz."
There's also a clear Danny Elfman influence in "Snowfly Forest" and "Undercity," especially the latter, which uses a tinkling, childlike mallet melody as an introduction to a deep, gothic horror sound that's slightly off-kilter. Neither of these bother me very much, since Sakimoto uses his own style in tandem with the inspiration. I also seem to remember that a pop song sounds very much like "Elec Man" in MM1, but I don't know the name of the song. There's nowhere I can't reach. ![]() |
